    #1 is my favorite opening, but I always thought it was unsound against stronger players. Igor has developed much better lines than I ever came up with, though. Never thought to morph it into a mirrored version of the Charlick if the opponent didn't bit. Goes to show the difference between me and a GM. :)

    I have a question: I often watch chess videos and hear the term 'weak squares' How do we know if we are weakening a square? How to use weak squares created by our opponents?

    • @aleksandarkarevski2218
      @aleksandarkarevski2218 3 місяці тому +4

      An example of weak squares are where an opponent has pawns built in a way where they are all on the same square color, but have no bishop that goes in between the pawns. This means that you can take advantage of this if you have a bishop that sees those squares or a queen that is on that diagonal.

      @Zywl 3 місяці тому +4

      I'm not an expert in this matter but I understand that weak squares are squares that are no longer defended by your opponent's pieces, particularly by pawns.

    • @mayankgoyal5264
      @mayankgoyal5264 3 місяці тому +1

      Weak squares are those squares which can't be defended by moving a pawn forward.

    • @75hilmar
      @75hilmar 3 місяці тому +1

      The more pieces see a certain square, the stronger it is. The more enemy pieces see a square, the weaker it is. So it depends. If a square was guarded by your pawn, you weaken it by putting the pawn forward.

    @GMIgorSmirnov, at 9:40, can you not move your knight to e4 or bishop to e7?

    • @dennisroijers
      @dennisroijers 3 місяці тому

      Thats what I was thinking too

    • @prplt
      @prplt 3 місяці тому

      if they move the knight you have Qxg7 😂 and if Be7 you kick the knight out with h4 and also Qxg7 (if Ne6 d5)

  • @solusvalde
    @solusvalde 3 місяці тому +4

    @9:40 why can't black save the knight?! Be7 is a good choice, isn't it?

    • @christopherstokes9393
      @christopherstokes9393 3 місяці тому

      Sure, that saves both the knight and the bishop, but after h4 (kicking the knight away) and Qxg7, White is still better :P .

    • @denskythecat2492
      @denskythecat2492 2 місяці тому

      good choice but passive move, bishop back to e7 and it seems akward.

    I guess I have missed something learning chess. The move you made to capture the pawn on D4 at 4:12 in your video; I was unaware that the pawn on e4 could capture the pawn on d4 simply by moving to d3.
    I guess I am confused on how that works. I thought the pawn could only capture if the opponent was occupying the diagonal square?

    Hi Igor, Thanks for your latest video. I also have a question. My favorite opening for Black is the Busch Gass Gambit. Yet, for some reason I can't wrap my head around it. Would you please do a detailed video on the theory for this opening. I think I'm missing something.
    Thank you in advance. 😊😊😊

      Me too, they just defended. But I think white has a superior position by this stage, solid center and black hasn't developed at all, how does black develop from here?
