Adam, I've used Color Tune for years--it is a wonderful device. Many people do not know of it's existence--now they do thanks to you. Well done, Adam! Chris/Colorado Springs, Colorado/USA

I’ve just used one for the first time and I can’t believe how easy it was to use and how effective it was in setting up the mixture on my carbs. It is also a great diagnostic tool for finding other issues with the engine and carbs.

Nice instructions, I've been using this tool since the early 80's when I was introduced to it by an aircraft mechanic who owned a Mini just like mine. I still have the same Color Tune that I purchased all those years ago.. Great tool..!!!

Most of m cars are well over 100 years old. I have made adapters for them and the Colortune works just fine. Great video too.

Great video. But just one thing; I hope you don't mind me saying but it looked like you may have used a little bit too much force to tighten the plug. You'd be surprised if you've ever used a torque wrench to tighten plugs to maufacurers spec, but it's just a little bit past finger tight. The reason for this is that a regular spark (and the Colortune) are made of an outer metal shell and an inner core. If you over tighten a plug you run the risk of breaking the seal between the inner core and the outer shell. In a regular spark plug, this can cause a vaccum/ compression leak between the steel collar the the ceramic insulator (I've done this myself). In a Colortune, it can cause the glass viewing insulator to separate from the steel collar and shoot out like a bullet (I've heard of this happening).

Very helpful video! I just switched from a single HIF-44 on my classic Mini to twin HS4 carbs. I have an air fuel gauge and O2 sensor which works great on a single carb because it fuels all cylinders evenly (as evenly as the manifold can distribute the mix). I thought I had the twin carbs tuned correctly based on the AF gauge, but when I removed the plugs, the two on the drivers side carb were normal to lean, and the two on the passenger side carb were full of carbon. The AF sensor saw the mix between the two and showed within spec. I just ordered a Colortune after seeing your video, and it certainly seems like a must-have for more than one carburetor especially.

I've been using the 'Color Tune' since it first came out in the mid 60's.
I've progressed through all the models produced I'm not keen on the present 'small' model.
I've got a set of six 507916 Color Tunes which are the original 'large' models.

That is not really tuning is it, its running idle with the Idle AFR setting. Tuning has to happen under wo and load conditions at different rev's. But besides that its a reasonable good tool and cheap to set your idle mixture.. I have one and have it compared with an AFR dial... That shows that the color tune is not all that precise and leaves a lot of room for error , its a rough estimation... but better then nothing...

Adam, I have 5 cars with SU,s on them. Adds up to 12 single carbs. All of your posts talk about a fuel mixture screw which I have none. All of mine are adjusted through the dashpot. Is your type or mine uncommon? No one ever responds to my comments so will see? I guess you click the bell top right. Cheers, Randy
