I love USB-C, wish everything I had was USB-C.
Me too, it will slowly become the new version of the old micro usb.
S a m e
Oh how wrong you are, you should love USB A, because it exist since Windows 98 and it hasn't changed once. Anyway see you when USB-D is released and you start loving that...
@null na usb c is only implemented in more modern devices bc it provides faster charging, data transfer and provides all the same functions all other USB versions can do, usb c is smaller compact and parallel so u can put it in upside down if u want and it still works.
It is awesome the the charging port is waterproof without the dust cover.
Love this light for everything. I use it for work (general contracting), hunting, and everything else. It can light up a basement or attic entirely at work if I need it to, the battery life is tremendous and it takes the same USB-C port as my laptop. I honestly think it’s waterproof because it’s taken several plunges on the way to a duck blind or crossing a creek. 6/5 stars for sure. Appreciate the review
I do love this light for all those reasons and actually bought the trail running version of this light new and improved works great
The USB C port was one of the things I was looking for when I went for the European version of this light. I absolutely didn't want one of those ports hidden under a screw on cap which you can lose. The great reason was an emergency scenario. You can plug it it to a powerbank and still use the medium mode (either spot or flood). If you use an angled USB C plug you can even keep it on your head. That's a HUGE advantage if you go into the mountains or just plan to spend the whole night outdoors (yep, you'd probably have some spare cell, but you'd probably star saving power AFTER something unexpected happens) or just fly to another country and have to minimize luggage weight and volume. Plus, the charging ports integrated in the batteries are usually micro USB which means having to have yet another cable type.
For me the biggest bummer of this light is how hard it is to attach/detach the head strap. I was planning to (among other scenarios) use it with a helmet mount, but it seems it's much easier to adjust the straps each time than to detach them and use the mount.
To each their own I guess. You have mentioned some very good reasons for having an external charging port. I just see it as a way for the light to get dust and dirt into it.
The C port on most Fenix lights is water resistant without any cover .
What if you try to cut out plastic a little bit, just like Nitecore does on their head strap mounts? See example on the picture on their official website: flashlight.nitecore.com/Uploads/attached/image/20200116/20200116092137_50806.jpg
This is my favorite running headlamp. I've ran through rain, snow and sweat. So far it's lasted longer than any other head lamp. Oh yea one more thing. I've ran this year alone almost 2000 miles, so you know this thing has taken a beating.
That's great, too bad I got a dud with this one. I did however pick up the HM-65R-T, made for trail running, I'll be doing a video once I'm finished putting it through its paces
@@KReesethebeast I'm so sorry Kevin. I thought you were talking about the 65r-t. I hope you love them like I do.
@@gavinhaynes5632 so far so good with that one! I only have 1 issue so far that I'll discuss in the next video!
Dang, thats too bad you had problems with it. I have this headlamp and have used it for probably 12-15 hours on caving trips and have experienced no problems. I absolutely love it. Most people love theirs. I wonder if you just got a bad one.
Thanks for the comment! It is no doubt an excellent light. Does yours make that high pitched beep sound on high? My hearing is pretty good (still young lol) so like I mentioned in the video some people may simply not hear that high of a frequency. My mic actually was able to pick up the sound. Being a headlamp, it was just too close to my ears. I actually ended up getting another headlamp (review coming soon) that will fit my needs better. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. Merry Christmas!
@@KReesethebeast Ive not experienced the weird sound but I don't use the high setting much so perhaps thats why? The medium setting has been bright enough for my needs. Good luck with whichever headlamp you end up with. I'll look for your review. Merry Christmas
@@liverleef The sound started as soon as I hit the high mode and I thought that was odd, I used it for a few minutes on high and thought this is odd I wonder why it is still making this sound. Try yours on high and see if it does maybe I had a bad light. Thanks for your feedback and I will have the new review up asap. Hope you had a great Christmas!
@@KReesethebeast i have the Fenix UC35 and it also has that high pitch sound on the high mode
I swear you just had a bad model. I've had two of these back to back and neither have made a high pitched noise. My light does occasionally turn itself on and off though. Bummer yours did that.
I like the USB-C so I don’t have to take out the battery. I ended up getting the HM65R-T because it has better high constant high lumen output plus the band on the -T is WAY better. I can’t hear anything from the light on any setting but I have tinnitus.
I have looked at that light I really like it, thought about picking one up. I agree, that band looks good.
The sound is a very compelling argument! It matches my tinnitus perfectly! That's an unexpected perk!
I always appreciate an honest review myself...whether I personally like or agree with the results, so thank you. I do agree that this specific headlamp model isn't for everyone. That said, it remains very popular despite retailing at nearly $100 USD. I believe this is due to having the two-LED option combined with Fenix's build-quality and reliability. A lot of the users who love this light are people like cavers, night hikers, and utility workers, who's life literally depends on having reliable lighting equipment that can take a beating.
Thank you. If it was not for the beep, I probably would have kept it, but it was too annoying to deal with all the time and I knew something was not right. What upset me was I contacted Fenix about the issue, and never got a response. So I do not use their products anymore. I have had emails with questions answered promptly by Streamlight, unfortunately cannot say the same for Fenix.
I really appreciate your review, but i gotta tell you, it's a great head lamp even with its flaws.
It is without a doubt a great headlamp.
That’s crazy. Literally every reason you stated why you don’t like the light are the exact reasons why I do like the light lol. I watched a video where they tied a string to the light and dropped it in a lake for 15 minutes and it stayed on and kept working so it it waterproof, and the same guy punt kicked it and it kept working. I like that it has a button for each light. I just got it so ask me again at a later date, but I got it for work so take that for what it’s worth. It’ll be my go to light until I find something better. It’s for work anyway not camping or trailing or anything.
I have extremely sensitive hearing and the only time I hear any sort of sound from the light is when I am using my cell phone. But it is extremely faint and barely perceptible if there is any other noise going on. May be some sort of wave combination sensitivity?? Other than that, this is the best headlamp I have ever used and I used to equip all my welders on my crew with the Streamlights. If I had these and was able to make up a spatter case like we did for the Streamlight, I would have definitely spent the money on a huge stock of these Fenix HM65R’s for sure. Nice review my man. Good to show the combo of the spot and flood together. I use that configuration almost every time I have that thing on my head!! 👍🏻😎👍🏻
Glad you liked it!
I bought mine 2 days ago and I haven't noticed the high pitched wine with mine but I will be checking that carefully. Overall so far I am very impressed with the features and the quality of construction BUT ..... The battery does NOT give 21 hours of 400 lumens. IT DOESN'T EVEN GIVEN SIX HOURS!!! That is a BIG problem in my opinion.
Oh no! What battery do you have in your light? I am glad at least the whine is not there. I actually contacted Fenix about the light, we will see what they have to say, if they even respond to me. I sent them a link to this video and told them who I was and I would love the chance to do a more positive review of this light if they would send me one with the whine issue corrected, as I now understand that to be a defect in the light that they were aware of and corrected.
@@KReesethebeast They are sending me another complete unit as a backup. Hopefully it will have a longer runtime with the 3500 rechargeable battery.
Cris Signori I’m considering this light do to the listed high run time. I don’t even know of another light that will do 400 lumens close to 20 hours. Keep us posted on if your new light gets closer to 20 hours, please.
It never will. The US version has some weird step down strategy, which means even if you get those 22H it won't be constant 400 lumens. The EU version has flat output and for 400 lumens you have 4 h of declared runtime with the 3500 mAh battery. Fortunately, from what I tested, in an emergency, the lowest 30lm on spotlight would be bright enough to e.g. keep on the path in the forest and that one gives you around 90h. The lowest flood setting gives 300h but I can't imagine hiking at night with that 8 lumen light.
@@BecauseYouHaveToHaveANickNow Thanks .... In any case my whole point is that it is false advertising on the part of Fenix no matter where you purchased your light. I bought mine in Canada.
Mine didn't come with the (over the) headstrap. How did you get one like that.
Mine just came that way
I got HM71R for my parents and I searched for USB-C specifically because they have charging capability for this port everywhere, car, powerbank, office, etc… I have lots flap-covered things on my bike and in the last 5 years of using these, did not yet have any issues with water. They say the device is IP68
They are good and will be fine I am sure. IMO the lights that are completely sealed, in theory, should be better protected from elements.
I would return it and try a new one. I had two powerbanks (Ravpower tough outdoors model) that emmited a high pitched whine). The third replacement was fine. Not a good hit ratio but paid a good local seller who returned them fine.
The UI issues I understand. Thats a very personal thing. I use Zebralights which have a more complicated UI until it becomes second nature.
I have a friend who loves zebra lights and yes their UI is very complex but highly customizable. I am sticking to Streamlight and Nitecore from now on. I contacted Fenix, never got a response. They lost my business. I am a firefighter and our department like many others has contracts with Streamlight, a US company. Great products that we put our lives on the line with. I have an old polytac on my helmet, been using the same batteries for 5 years now, never had any issues whatsoever with the light, been in fires, in the rain on the side of the road on long extrications. I have few streamlights now and a nitecore NU20 jogging headlamp. Fenix can keep their stuff.
I have 2 of this. Love it been using it every other day for the last 2 years and still strong.
I got the new trail running version of this same light.
Thank you so much for your review on the headlamp. I just bought one and I had been struggling trying to figure out how to turn it on. With your help guiding on how to turn on the light, I was able to figured it out! Thank you! I'm sorry the sounds bother u a lot but it didn't bother me with me wearing my hearing aids on, I didn't even know there were noises involved! Again, thanks so much for sharing this video! Stay safe!
Thank you! So, I found out later that this headlamp was defective, it was an issue Fenix fixed. I contacted them, but they never replied to me. So, I returned it, and have been sticking with brands like Streamlight and Olight. We use nothing but Streamlight in the fire service. I have had a streamlight mounted to my fire helmet for years now, no problems.
Good points made. But, I would have liked to have known the "constant ON times/lumens mode". e.g. how long can we leace it on MED before it steps-down to LOW? How long can we have it on LOW before it shuts off--one constant on....??
all good tests I should have done.
Great review. Is it possible to take off the band on the top (so you only got the band around the head)?
yes... comes off easy.
I prefer the onea that have the external charger and can also have the batteries replaced. Best of both worlds
Yes, and magnetic charging is something I am learning to like.
Got the light as well and I don’t have the hf noise. Or maybe it’s too high for me to hear
I think mine was a dud.
I can’t decide between this and the hm70r! Thoughts?
Both are great. I actually have the upgraded version of this light now, the trail running version. Best headlamp I have used.
I bought one and I go night fishing with this light... oh my oh my... feel in love with this light, I just put my perun 2 in my backpack never touch it all night... wow... and I just order the charger and 2 xtra batt cost $68 I think on their web site... man with this light and 3 batt... I can work all day under the car.... perun2 is good too but it's a lot heavier then this... 👍👍 for fenix...
I agree, it is a good light, too bad I got a defective one that Fenix would not work with me on. Oh well.
Do you mean they would not take it back as defective, and send out a replacement? As an owner of this light that is disappointing to hear. I have had this light for about 8 months and like it a lot. No unwanted sounds coming from mine that I can hear. Build quality is excellent. I just want to get an extra battery to extend runtime, and see if I can mount it to my mountain bike helmet to use for late commutes. Thanks for the concise and detailed review
I have the same one. I do Hvac for a living. I loved mine for the first 1.5 years. Sometimes it does buggy things such as not turning on even when it’s fully charged , the smaller light blinks when I try to use it. I’ve tried swapping out the batteries but it didn’t work. My buddy also bought one he had issues even quicker.
That's too bad. I have the newer model for trail running, and have logged over 50 hours with it and no issues at all so far.
Did you find this lamp smell bad when open the box?and turn on light has some noise?
Not sure about smell but it did make the noise.
@@KReesethebeast thanks bro
Note* I learned several years ago that not everyone's ears can pick up that frequency. I can pick it up very strongly and I can't stand it. I want to know if that is on every one of those or if yours was a fluke. Other than that I love the design and the light. But that noise would be 100% deal breaker. Could be a $2000 light given to me for free and I couldn't use it for the sound it makes. I was just about to purchase this and was planning on cutting that top strap off and use it for hunting purposes but not with that noise. As far as the battery and charging port goes that's not going to let water go inside and mess it up what so ever and fenix already stated if something did happen to seep in then it would he considered a manufacturing defect. The c charging unit is an upgrade to all previous in all aspects. That's why it's on everything now. It's more stable. Thicker, and can be inserted by either side and it's more bullet proof because of that thickness. And I would probably get 2 of those batteries (or upgrade to a different 3500mah battery and charge it on my charging station. They tend to charge 20x faster and hold charges better than the quick charge through a port.)😏 but that sound is God awful. Almost makes me sick at my stomach.
I agree it is a great light, and I like the new model they came out with, and have considered getting it, as I am sure they worked all the bugs out that the old one had.
@@KReesethebeast I hope so. I'm still in awe over that noise lol
How long is the battery life? I do a lot of work in crawlspaces and need something that'll last 8 to 10 consistently.
Depends on the brightness level and ambient temperature so it could vary. Check their specs on their website.
How about the nitecore headlamps that have the usb c port under one of the screw caps? You keep solid waterproofing this way and also an accesible port on the body. HC60 v2 etc.
I am with you totally on that concept I have looked at several of those lights and am a Nitecore fan. However for me, after all my research, I have settled with the HM65R-T, and am currently in the process of reviewing it.
@@KReesethebeast I have almost all nitecore lights currently so I’m also a fan. That RT one looks sweet but given I attach my headlamps to my safety vest, the smaller NU25/UT27 are more my speed. I wish I could get 21700 run times but we probably have to wait for new battery tech for that. Let see how you find the RT.
It's not dark where I am. So how can I use mine?
Go into a room inside your house with no windows. Turn off the lights. Turn on your headlamp.
@@KReesethebeast ahhhhhh....thanks for helping a boomer such as myself.
@@mytm1k3 Glad to be of assistance to you sir. Merry Christmas to you!
@3:31 Regarding batteries with USB port Fenix actually offers these as Fenix ARB-L18 in 2600Mah and 3500Mah and comes with Micro USB port instead of USB-C. I must say i haven't heard the whining high pitch noise but that might be due to your microphone or my hearing capacity. This headlamp is the absolute best if you want a headlamp that has unrivaled battery endurance (22 hours in 400 lumens mode!). Not really a requirement if you're just using it for under your car but if you have to rely on a headlamp for instance when you are trailrunning or ultrarunning in the outdoors that last multiple days a headlamp with only 4 hour battery endurance is totally useless. The only thing i miss at this HM65R is RGB lights! Now Fenix just released a new headlamp, the HM61R but that only last 4 hours @ 400 lumens while HM65R last 22 hours @ 400 lumens. HUGE difference (same battery).
I totally agree! 400 lumens for 22 hours is great. Like I said, I gave this one a shot, but for me and what needed it for mostly, I felt guilty spending almost $100 on it. As for the high pitched beep, it was not the mic, I heard it as soon as I tried everything on high for the 1400 lumen max. I tapped it and shook it thinking maybe some sort of connection issue, but it did not stop. I tried everything. I may have kept it if it was not for the beep. I have already ordered a new headlamp (review will be coming after it arrives) that will fit my needs better. I love Fenix products and my first major big boy LED light purchase was the Fenix TK-35 in 2011. Technology has come a long way even since then, with lights producing more output with less power. This light is a great light, and for someone who needs everything it has to offer, it is great. I am a minimalist at heart, and prefer simple gear- one lens, one button, one battery, and lightweight. Thanks for the comment and Merry Christmas to you!
Mine has the floodlight red. For some reason. Tactical. Thought it was supposed to be like that. Mine does not have coil whine though.
The whine is aggravating and an issue they addressed apparently those were defective.
How long do you think the runtime when both light is on at the highest settings? Also, how warm does it get before it goes down at the highest setting 1400lumens?
I did not test that, mainly due to the high pitched constant beep on high, but I can tell you at 1400 lumens it starts getting hot very quickly. It really is a great light, I am not sure why mine made that noise, but if it did not I may have kept it. I should have thought more on what exactly I will use the light for, because it was just too much for my needs and I felt guilty spending almost $100 on it. I have ordered another headlamp which I will post a review as soon as it arrives and I can have some time with it. I hope this helps you. Merry Christmas!
I have this light and mine never turns off on 1400. Mine does not does not beep either. It doesn't dim down it stays on continuously for probably 2 and 1/2 hours at highest white light and highest neutral white both on. All that's kind of academic really when you consider that you never want to discharge your battery below about 30% otherwise you're seriously degrading its lifespan. The light is pretty heavy in extended use. I had to physically cut the strap off of it. It doesn't detach on its own and then I had to finagle velcro onto my hat and onto the base of the light and go through a bunch of weird stuff. At least now I can wear it on my belt or hat and I don't have to wear a quarter pound on my head when I don't want it, or put it in my pocket where it's not immediately accessible. For City slickers like myself sometimes you just want to walk your dog and you don't want to look like you could probably use a crash helmet too, you've got this rather bulbous light on your head and you look stupid as hell, and, of course, a walking advertisement in fluorescent orange. For people that run around in caves it's probably an awesome set up. It stays on when it's charging at about the mid-range and that's the bulk of what I use it for since I live on solar. Night light style pointed toward ceiling lights whole RV. It has taken a spill onto concrete for more than 6 feet up. Several times. I highly recommend the light as long as people understand the drawbacks.
Terry Harris
Sorry but it does ramp down on output on turbo, high, and medium. It would likely fry if it didn’t - all light do with this kind of output. Looks like from the graph on their website, it ramps down to about 350 lumens
@@jk-guy4226 Hmmmmm, mine doesn't ramp down either. It will stay on the 1400 til it can't support it anymore battery wise and then immediately swap to the 400 setting. Then about two minutes later the battery is flat and it shuts off.
My Prius’s hybrid battery system gives off a magnetic field measuring in Milligause. I can read approx. 3 mG from the drivers seat when running engine on highway. I wonder if there is a mG reading from headlamp????!?!?!?!?!
interesting question!
So did you find a light with good run time that would recommend?
I actually got the new version of this light the trail running edition. No issues at all so far.
@@KReesethebeast sweet, what's it called just hm65r 2023 or something else?
@@cbb3062it is the same except it has a T in the name
If you don't like the external charging port, put tape over it. Batteries with charging ports on them are sold separately but their capacity is bound to be lower because of loss of volume.
I'm not interested in a flashlight I have to tape up to use.
What headlamp do you recommend?
That is a great question, as there are so many to choose from. Personally, I have found Streamlight to be a great reliable brand with outstanding customer service and lifetime warranty on all their products. I also like Nitecore and they have some nice headlamps as well.
I own three special edition HM65R and never noticed any noise. I mostly use it for trail running and hiking but used it at home too recently and never had the problem.
HM65R SuperRaptor (XM-L2 U2 spot and flood)
HM65R ShadowMaster (SST40 spot + red light flood)
HM65R SuperRaptor (SST40 spot and XP- G3 flood)
The SuperRaptor and ShadowMaster are special editions for the Scandinavian and UK markets respectively.
They have better regulation than the standard HM65R.
Awesome! Think mine was a dud. I picked up the hm-65rt for trail running, it is lighter, testing it now, review coming soon!
Two days ago I bought Fenix hm65r. When I checked the battery level, one light was on which indicates that the battery level is %21-%40 according to the user manual. After a few try different combination of lighting the battery dropped below %20. I checked it and one light was flashing.
So I began charging headlamp using my samsung phone charger. Later on immediately I saw that three lights were on constantly and the latter one was flashing as in this video:
ua-cam.com/video/Ff9xsMoKOcs/v-deo.html
I use the same charger which is seen in this video. I'm not sure if it's suitable for charging it:
ua-cam.com/video/QbTRyO4ee8k/v-deo.html
This situation didn't change for about 2 hours. Still waiting for it to see any change. Is this normal?
As far as understand from user manual, after starting to charge, one indicator should flash first. Other indicators should be off till %21. After that one light should be on constantly and the second light should flash so on..
Is there anything wrong with my headlamp?
Watch the video closely, I show the lights and charging.
So what light did you select...???
I ended up with the new trail running version of this light. It is so far, the best headlamp I have ever had.
I just bought 1 today from buckeys in leeds, AL . Im here to see if others thought the claimed 1400 lumins was bogus becouse i have a Nitecore HC-30 1000LUMIN headlamp thats everybit as bright
I think overall it is a good light but mine was a dud.
Would you have kept it if it was not for the noise?
Yes, the noise was unbearable on high in a quiet place, I could imagine someone exploring a cave would go insane, I know I almost did in my attic working on the water heater. For the price point, I expected more.
Can’t hear the annoying sound but I’m 72 and probably got high frequency hearing loss, so that’s a bonus if I buy the light! 👍🏻
What a great perspective!
Well I'm thinking about either getting this headlamp or the HT18... I'll see which fits my needs better at what I'm doing.
It is a great headlamp for those who need this type of light.
the port on the outside and the 3/13 deal is why i went for the olight m2r warrior pro over the fenix pd35r which in my opinion beats the m2r pro in high, low, and eco. the m2r pro was better in turbo and medium. ive been unfortunate to be stuck outside during a tornado warning for almost 2 hours with one actually touching down in a near by town. while stuck there was the most rain, lightning, and thunder i had ever seen. 20 miles away in my hometown there where tornado sirens and tree being ripped up and thrown across the road. it was pretty bad. i was lucky that after the first 4 seconds of what seemed like 50mph wind it died down to nothing in the valley i was in. i had checked the weather right before i was dropped off there and it said thunderstorms at 6pm, the damn thing decided that it will be much worse and roll in 1.5 hours later at 1:45. they tell you not to hide under trees but i knew it was safer than standing out in the open. they should say never be the tallest thing and never hide under the tallest thing. i was kayaking at the lake in that valley and it was surrounded by a fairly dense forest so i hid among some of the smaller trees about 15 feet in. there was lighting all around me and quite a few withing 100 yards but never got any closer. i now bring a poncho no matter what the weather is like or projected to be. ill also carry that olight once it arrives tomorrow. oh and that whine is coil whine from cheap Chinese capacitors that vibrate at a audible level. literally 1-2 cents more would have got fenix a Japanese capacitor that doesn't do that. i cant stand that noise. i was gonna get this light because it destroys everything olight has, id hot glue the port closed and charge the battery externally but i could still peel it off and use it in a emergency. oh well back to searching.
Awesome story! I have a review in the works currently of the Fenix ld30. Awesome light! Also am doing a review of the headlamp I went with after this one. If it was not for that whine, I would have kept it. But it was really overkill for what I actually was going to use it for, given the size and weight. I did not realize this until I actually started putting it to use. Also it is very expensive, at almost $100.
@@KReesethebeast what headlamp did you go to? I can't find your review anywhere.
any chance doing fenix hm65r-t review?
Not unless one of my loyal patrons would care to donate for a review, I would be glad to!
Mine is brandnew. I had it fully charged laying around for 1 week, used it occasionally on lowests setting and now its allmost empty. Is it broken? Anyone same exp?
Sounds like you got a dud like mine
@@KReesethebeast You also got a new one recently? So I guess I should return it then and get a ledlenser instead.... I am scared of this thing shitting out on me while climbing multipitches at night
Thanks dor sharing your thoughts, specially the noisy one. You saved me some euros 🤗
I did get the updated version of this light and it works fantastic
Why he's returning it: 8:13
I really wanted to keep this light. Hate that it made that noise.
Hi i have just tried mine light and got it literally next to my ear and i have to say i dont hear anything, it may be broken try to ask for new one.
It was a problem on some lights. I have contacted Fenix weeks ago, have not heard anything from them. Granted, I did not purchase directly from them, but a response would have been nice.
Used this torch 7 hours a day on workdays (as a mechanic) for a year, and never heard anything from it. Judging by other responders here yours must have been a fluke
Yep think I had a fluke unfortunately 😕
What's your camera you makes a video?
The camera I use is a Sony a6500 shot in 1080p, I use some custom settings on it and I use a rode video micro microphone and a Neewer LED light. Hope this helps you and you liked the video and quality!
Hey boi, the C-port needs no cover on kost Fenix lights. The cover is for dust, not water, the C port is water proof WITHOUT the cover on it.
Good to know!
I just bought the Fenix HM65R-T then I see this video 🙄🇦🇺. I hope my model doesn't suffer the same problem
Good news for you, I have that model as well and it is awesome! No issues so far.
What did you get instead?
I am currently reviewing the new upgrade to this light, the hm-65r-t.
buzzing or hi-pitch sound would be very annoying .... seems yours was defective. Streamlight has always been a leading brand... what model did you get ?
Yes after some research I found this was an issue Fenix admitted to. I actually contacted them and told them what happened. I never got a response. Compare that to Streamlight whom I've contacted in the past and gotten a response within 24 hours. I sold the other Fenix light I had after this too. I only run Streamlight, Nitecore, and Olight right now. I have had good experiences with all of these.
I have a four sevens light that makes that awe full high pitch whine also. I hate that light! I never use it. I have 7 other Fenix lights and none of them do it. Sorry to hear that cuz I was looking to replace my Surefire Maximus headlamp
Surefire and Fenix is like apples to oranges, I would keep my Surefire if I had one. At least if you had an issue Surefire would fix it, unlike Fenix who has still never responded to me after multiple attempts.
@@KReesethebeast the Surefire is nice, but when I use it I only get about an hour if that of run time and it’s pretty heavy on the head. I could buy 3!of the Fenix to what I paid for it. Just changed out the battery after 10 yrs. stopped taking charge. Nice light, just to expensive
@@aarontyrrell2931 I agree they are very expensive, but you can abuse them more than just about any other light and they keep going.
I guess that video compression hided that that sound :/ but thank you for mentioning
I can hear it, may have to turn volume up or use headphones.
Why not get a olight h2r or the olight perun or perun2,these are great headlamps, one button press an hold for your brightness levels.
I like those lights!
I want to buy this, but still look another choice. Just now i saw nitecore hc65. Would you know and tell me which one is better?
Just compare the two and pick the one that best suits your needs.
nitecore satın aldınızmı peki tavsiye edermisiniz ?
Fenix light will last much longer than Nitecore. This is based on real tests. Also Nitecore stepdown is terrible. When I ride bicycle I don't expect that it will go from Mid to superlow in one second. But it always does like this and I hate it.

@@alimuharremturan581 Not sure if I understood you correctly but in Nitecore HC65 red light is not very bright. I can tell you I've never used red light on HC65 while camping. I think I can see something 2 meters away from me but not farther. Yes, Fenix is not giving stable light like Nitecore does and it goes down slowly. But with this slow stepdown you can get around 7 hours of light that will be enough for you to walk and to see everything 10-20 meters away from you while Nitecore will go to the lowest "Moonlight" mode (which is useless) in just 2 hours 50 minutes. Some would say to buy more batteries. While I prefer to get most of one battery. The big advantage of Fenix is that you can attach your powerbank to it and it will work in Mid mode with powerbank cable attached while Nitecore goes off when chargin. This is what people say here in comments.
Check the the real working time test here: ua-cam.com/video/r7CB78Xy-vc/v-deo.html
As you can see, Fenix lasts much longer than Nitecore while their batteries are just the same. This is because Fenix light goes down slowly while Nitecore trying to keep it stable.
However, on High and Turbo modes Nitecore is not stable too. It's stable only on Mid, Low and Moonlight modes. So if you want to have stable light during short period of time - buy Nitecore. But if you want to have longer light with one battery - go with Fenix.
If you want to save money you may probably try to look at Sofirn SP40 on Aliexpress. It doesn't have red light but it's the best light you can ever get for such a small price and it's light is even brighter than HC65. I tested Sofirn SP40 and I think it's amazing for the price.
Did you all hear that buzzing noise it was so loud nearly bursted
me eardrums
Yep
That noise would drive my crazy and would be the only reason I need to get rid of it
Yes think mine was a dud.
"I'm not a fan of USB-C" -tough luck. It's the new standard. And how can anyone prefer micro usb instead??
I think he meant hes not a fan of it on the outside of the light itself, not that he doesn't like the type of charging port.
Yes exactly, I love USB C, my phone uses it, and it is easier to have the same cable for multiple devices. I am not a fan of external ports covered by a cheap rubber cover that will eventually fall off.
@@KReesethebeast Ah, ok. I recently ordered a nitecore HC65. I was a bit back and forth before i ordered it because it did not have USB-C - but when i found it for about 60usd it was settled. Have you tried the HC65, and if so - did you like it?
@@suprlite No I have not tried it but it looks like a good light, I like the fact it's dual fuel, and the fact the charging port is accessed by unscrewing the cap.
I have tinnitus so no problem for me.
I feel like that would be double the noise though it would probably drive me crazy!
If you like flashlight review, than download osciloscope app in your phone. You will catch those buzzing visualy with that app...
Sounds interesting!
I like my Nitecore headlamp. It has a slide bar that changes from green, red, blue and low to hight white light. I cannot remember the model number. The only drawback is it's a bit heavy.
I have some Nitecore stuff. Always have liked them.
HC90, it is heavy, but well made.
The nite core HC68 is the best, bro!
I do like Nitecore!
I just enjoyed listening to this dude's accent (I am not from the USA). 🙂👍 Not a bad video either, pointed out a negative feature that I haven't seen other reviewers talk about.
Glad you liked it thank you for watching
Usb c is waterproof.
The cover is just for dust and dirt
meh, I have seen other lights where the port is located on the head and the dust cover came off. Then the light develops moisture and fogging inside the lens..
Thank you for sharing wrt the sound, that would bother the hell out of me.
Think mine was a bad light.
Perfect for chipping tanks out
It is a good light, I have the upgraded version of this same light, works great.
this review is bullshit, disagree in everything. mine makes no sound. c port is exellent.
I got a defective one, tried to contact Fenix, never got a response from them.
Glue the flap closed?
only way to seal it completely, but would not be able to open it, so defeats purpose. Not a fan of these ports.
@@KReesethebeast fair enough
i know with the HL60R the cap can even be off the charge port and still get submerged without any worries. i am sure this would be the same for all their headlamps.
Have had my HL60R submerged in fresh and salt while fishing and still charges no issue after 4 years, just be sure to rinse out the port with warm water and dry before connecting any charge cable.
Wait WTF, on the website there is said that using 400 lumens it will last for 4 hours, and here u have on the box written it last 22 hours using 400lumens.............. WTF ????
I know! What is Fenix up to I wonder...
@@KReesethebeast i was talking with Fenix service, they said that is a big mistake, made by them, and instead of 22 hours life there should be more or less 4 or 5 hours, which is a HUGE difference, and great mistake that cheated, maybe thousands of people. That's a bad promotion for fenix.
I'm not sure how you could advertise it as rechargeable if you literally just mean the battery you can get rechargeable batteries in all sizes
I guess because you can recharge them in the light it has a USB c port on it
@@KReesethebeast I actually saw one of their lights has the usb c directly on the battery so I guess that would be the ideal for water resistance and rechargeability
@@chriscardenas3802 yeah I like having that option since my phone uses the same cord.
The HM60R say it has intelligent frequency-sensing...
What is intelligent frequency-sensing...
Not sure!
Those sealed chargeable batteries would be great if not for constant removal. Even the higher end headlamps seam to quickly fail in the contacts when batteries are removed often. The nightcore and fenix lamps with the detached battery packs both failed within a week when the batteries in the packs were frequently swapped out with fresh batteries
Are you saying the lights you had that had removable batteries failed within a week?
This with a red light would be ideal.
I agree.
You wasted how long making a video of why you are returning something? What the hell. Wow
Can't here anything lol, he probably has tinnitus lol.
Wanted to give others my opinion on the light and the issues I had with it.
Nope, hearing is fine! Turns out this was a factory defect that was addressed by Fenix!
@@KReesethebeast it's the one I will be buying, you obviously got a dud unfortunately. Good review though.
@@spidermansteve6409 *hear
Same sound on Ledlenser lights.
That is a problem don't you think?
What do you recognize
I do not understand the question sorry.
That high pitched whine is weird, is that happening to anyone else?
Mine was defective based on what some others said
So you bought it to make a video knowing that you were going to return it. Sad bro
I did not plan on returning it.
@@KReesethebeast dude these lights are fantastic, you Def planned on never keeping it just to make a video, sad, deceitful, and childish.
USB type C is the best what are you talking about dude.
Even Apple went USB type C.
I like this flashlight, just ordered its perfect for what I need it.
But I see what you mean with the port if it's pouring rain. We'll see.
I love usb c and have come to accept the lights that charge the batteries in them. Never had a problem with usb c.
What would you suggest for me instead of the fenix crap? I am a climber and I love to climb at night. I have a ledlenser h7r core and need a reserve one.
Most important is that lamp is durable, has many hours of light and keeps up in cold nights.
With the fenix accu crapping out early, that is the last thing I need hanging in a 400m wall in the middle of the night. Also I dont need it to overheat and burn my house.
My ledlenser is superb but it has one flaw, it turns itself on very easily due to exposed on knob. So i need some reserve lamp just in case.
Fenix was so cool but seriously, they say it is dangerous to overheat and burn, like WTF.
You definitely need a great light for all of that! Right now I'm testing the new Fenix hm65r-t. So far it is awesome, I'd check that one out if I was you. I searched all the other lights and Fenix just kills the competition with this light, best headlamp I've ever owned so far.
@@KReesethebeast Does this one discharge as well? I came accross that the other fenix did discharge over a week. And it could only sustain 400 lm for 3 hrs, tested it yesterday.
Still gotta deal with o rings
Yep
I can hear the high pitched sound
It is even worse in person.
Also, you might be the first person ever I’ve heard say they don’t like usb c.
@@AviMus82 I love usb c in the right setting.
If I was the manger I would not take that back as a return after he finger fuked it for 30 mins , I would be like enjoy your new light thank you for purchasing fenix prouducts.🤷♂️
It was broken to start with, handling it did not damage it further.
If your a mechanic a little noise shouldn’t bother you
I like noise, just not when it is from a defective light that I paid over 100 bucks for.
Does not work with any of my many standard 18650 batteries only the Fenix battery it came with. USELESS!
The Fenix battery is slightly longer, to get it to work with other batteries is as simple as putting a small nut (or anything metal with the right thickness) at the end of the battery.
I can use the newer trail running version with a nitecore 18650
Great review
Thank you!
I can hear traffic, love USB-C
I do too.
Well that was clickbait. Hard no.
It was a review, and why I'm returning it. That doesn't qualify as clickbait in my book.
For $100bucs or better the thing should work like a dream no problem s at all now I know not to purchase this product
Exactly, pretty sure this was a dud.
Dude. That high Pitch sound was awfull
Agreed, think mine was a dud.
you are one PICKY dude . its 2 meters water proof. who cares how its charged. usb type C is great. i got 50 of these cables. same as samsung cable. every where i take my phone i can charge my headlamp. fyi for video is over exposed , way to much light. i didnt like that.
I got the new version of this light and it works fine. This one was a dud. I do like having USB C with them but I still feel in a shtf scenario a totally sealed light would last longer. just my opinion.
This review is useless for me. So much so that I'm buying this headlamp and I'll never return it.
Hope it works better for you than for me.
its a piece of shit light
Eh, I wouldn't go that far, but it definitely has some issues with the noise that needs worked out.
Luv my Nitecore HC65 headlamp 💪
I have looked at that one and it looks good
Except the run time is no where near this one, that's why imma get the Fenix
Haters gona hate!!!
I did not hate on it. I have other Fenix lights. This one had an issue that Fenix owned up to.
