    ABOUT VLADAN
    Vladan Mijatovic (Piano), is a Serbian Jazz pianist based in New York City.
    Vladan is admirably bending boundaries between traditional Eastern European, very specific and distinguish (Balkan) folk music and contemporary Jazz, taking the traditional “temper”, odd rhythms, and lyrical melodies of such music and adventurously teleporting them into the "now”, the present time of, let’s call it “World Jazz.”
    Being brought up in that part of the world where music is ornamental, melodious, and vastly colorful, man is often bestowed with such unique skills and atypical abilities, in music. Vladan Mijatovic is one of the "Ornaments", his solo piano debut is an expansive portrait of his unique style. (The New York Jazz Record). To listen to his debut solo piano album is to be engulfed by the whirlwind that is Vladan. His music mixes classical sensibility with Balkan folk music coupled with improvisation, making him end up sounding like a modern Balkan Chopin merged with Oscar Peterson. (Budd Kompan, All About Jazz).
    He has amply demonstrated his skills by touring, playing with spontaneity, enjoying one of the human's biggest miracles called music, and by creating entertainment for a mass audience, all around the world. So what melodies, harmonies, and cadences might haunt his new album? Vladan offers an answer to those questions with his debut solo piano record called “Ornaments" a medium that can perhaps reveal a Balkan musician's truest voice.

    Very nice. Excellent playing! I bought one of the remaining two Motif XFs in the US warehouses in 2016 because I didn’t like the midi implementation or layout of the Montage, lack of sequencer for putting down practice tracks etc when I didn’t have a computer nearby, lack of sampling, and actually the touch screen. Sounds are great though. It just didn’t fit my needs.

    Motif ES was released in 2003 having 1GB of user memory . Montage is released in 2018 having only 2GB of user memory over ES. Strange right ? . With a 100$ cheap personal computer you can have 16 GB of memory if you want . But with this 4000$ synth you can't put more user memory space even if you want that .

      Don't think so. Motif ES -175 MB ROM, User Sampling up to 512 MB, Montage 5.67 GB ROM, User up to 1.75 GB. See: usa.yamaha.com/files/download/brochure/6/317216/MOTIF_ES_catalogue.pdf
      ...but yes - 15 or so years and just a 3x-4x increase in User?

      Still, one can get things done with 2GB of memory, adding more when it comes to computing power might also mean that one will need a stronger cooling system which will be quite noisy like on the Kronos, and might also result in a longer start up time. The Montage is powerful for not being purely cream-ware based. I think the Montage is the perfect digital synthesizer, its perfectly up to date within the hardware world, one day, 64MB was considered as a lot of memory and there where several machines that sounded great even with only that amount of memory.

    Nice playing and sounds.
    I will buy one only when yamaha puts a fully functioning sequencer in it.
    At it's price I should not have to be connected to a laptop, ipad, or desktop to do fully completed multi timbre pieces.
    love the fm sounds and piano.

    • @starfallmusicaus
      @starfallmusicaus 7 років тому +5

      Direct quote from Yamaha regarding the sequencer. To be honest as a musician who uses their instruments as live set pieces rather than for the sequencing aspect I fully agree with their decision.
      "With Montage we are trying to move away from the DAW concept which was
      born in the 90’s. The direction for Montage is to put it firmly into
      the arena as a stand out instrument which can offer the musician, sound
      designer or the producer a very powerful palette of sounds and control
      options which we really haven’t witnessed before on a hardware synth.
      The DAW (such as MOTIF) was originally designed to be the hub of a
      studio or live set-up. As computers and software DAW’s have become more
      and more powerful / reliable they really have become the central hub
      for most people who need a sequencer both in the studio and live. Now
      even the ipad can provide a lot of functionality for sequencing. We
      talked to many MOTIF players and owners to find out what they use and
      what they can live without on the MOTIF, and the results showed that the
      sequencer really wasn’t a top priority for the majority. A lot of
      users agreed that it’s nice to have, but certainly not essential.
      Since
      Montage was built from scratch with a brand new chip set, it was never
      going to be a simple case of ‘just adding the sequencer from MOTIF’ into
      this unit (which I think is assumed by some users). We would have had
      to completely re-engineer this to fit the new OS, which would have taken
      away resources, and of course added extra cost to the product.
      It
      is hoped that in time, when users see how well Montage can work with
      their DAW (16-stereo channels of USB-Audio) the internal sequencer issue
      becomes less of a barrier".

    • @EduCamargoOficial
      @EduCamargoOficial 7 років тому

      This might explain the reason why Motif XS (early 2007), was already incorporating remote function to make DAWs and the keyboard work together, being the DAW, to a certain degree, a hub for producing ideas. XS's internal sequencer at that point, dropped support for step recording, and the sequencer setup on that device already had an easy setup for using the keyboard with the computer, without the user having to mess up with the MIDI parameters of the system.
      Still, Korg seems to be the only major beast in the game to contradict the idea of a dead hardware workstation, with their flagship Kronos still active; although I think software-based companies are doing their best to make computer trust-worthy for music production or even on stage.
      Time will tell if Yamaha really did the right choice.

    • @qtippz
      @qtippz 6 років тому +1

      Because there's really no point in having one on a keyboard nowadays. Besides whatever you create on the keyboard you're going to eventually transfer it on to your computer/DAW.

    Beautiful playing indeed. Thanks. Interesting to see you chose the Montage 7 (76 key FSX synth action version) vs the Montage 8 (88 key weighted hammer action) as such an accomplished player. I wonder was that due to budget constraints or do some people prefer good quality synth action keys vs hammer? Any thoughts would be much appreciated. I am myself trying to decide between Montage 7 and Montage 8 with no experience past cheap PSR type keys. I sadly doubt I will be able to get the opportunity to try either keyboard before I might take a decision and purchase. Some people tell me that weighted is so much better than FSX and world's apart in terms of the musical feeling to play, but then I see people like you playing so beautifully with these FSX keys

    • @bradyp3096
      @bradyp3096 7 років тому

      the FSX action has nothing to do with the cheap PSR keys found on the more affordable yamaha keyboards like the PSR700, 900, etc.. it is waaay better, premium feel, FSX keys are good. Even the cheaper MOXF6 keys feel better than the PSR keys even being also made of plastic. I know this because a friend of mine sell keyboards and I've had the chance to compare them and I also I have a Motif XF6 and used to have a MOXF6. The problem with the FSX is the black keys....in regards to piano samples..they are decent and somewhat playable...but don't expect the same comfort you will have with the 8. In regards to the white keys..I think you probably will like and get used to either. If you have heavy hands or are used to play hard that's another point for the 8. If you are gonna mainly play pianos, EPs...that's another point for the 8. Also Pay attention to the video...at some moments when the guy try to do something that requires nice dynamics his hands are screaming for weighted keys. I'm not saying the 7 is bad..if you go for it I don't think you will be dissapointed...but you wil remember this comment in regards to the black keys...I mean ...they are fine...BUT...dunno..compared to the ones in the 8..they are not that good..feel too small or not "deep" enough...just my 5cts

    • @presencewave4443
      @presencewave4443 7 років тому

      Thanks a lot for your kind and helpful reply. I have PSR S750 and a lot of the sound inside is good for the money but the keybed so poor as you suggest. It is hard to believe that even the PSR S950 which costs nearer to 2 thousand has this same keybed but apparently it does. I make some progress in last year as a player but I am sure the keybed is really slowing my progression. I think I will get Montage 8. Thanks again

    • @VLADANMUSIC
      @VLADANMUSIC  7 років тому +2

      Hi, thanks for the comment and the compliments. I do have many keyboards but the Montage 7 is the only one I take on the road. Montage 8 is on the way as well. You should buy what you really prefer. I choose Montage 7 for the gigs because I am tired of dragging couple of heavy keyboards just to get what I now have on Montage. Best of luck, V.

    • @adamkraemer9193
      @adamkraemer9193 7 років тому

      I played around with it the other day at GC. It seems you can transpose globally (by half-step or octave) using the buttons on the panel (which the Kronos is missing, for some reason), but you can also set the key of any (or all) of the components for each performance separately. And it's intuitive; I created a split and transposed down a half step without having to even glance at a manual.

    Nord Stage 3 ou Montage ?

  • @EverettDudgeon138

    While I understand people’s logic for not needing an onboard sequencer. It is beneficial for a few reasons, such as creating backing tracks or just getting song ideas out. Kurzweil got complaints for not including an onboard Sequencer in their Forte so they eventually installed one. With the Kronos, Forte, FA08 and others having onboard sequencers, there’s really no reason the Montage shouldn’t. If you choose not to use it, that’s fine but what about those that want to? Something I’ve noticed is Kurzweil has had the Forte out for years but they keep updating the OS and including new features...their newest one this year is a fully functional FM synth engine. So on that note, what would be the selling point of the Montage over a Forte? Genuine question.

    Gosp. Nemam reci :))
    (For those who are not into exotic languages - Mr.MIjatovic, don't you know this level of playing is strictly forbidden on YT?! Stop it right now and get to something with 2-3 chords, max! (joke,. joke - this is fantastic, really! I am speechless..)

    great playing, totally subscribing to this channel. two things:
    1) the "chick's sound" - i think chick had more of that DX7-style pluck (like classic DX7 "slap bass") in his lead sound (if e.g. this sound is the template: ua-cam.com/video/6NjSX9lI0iA/v-deo.html
    2) i love how you have VLADAN in huge letters on your laptop stand :-D

      Really ? More and more are tired of using their pc to create music (for various and numerous reasons). With the Montage the quality of instruments is getting much closer to what vsti's offer.
      It was not much extra work to have added a basic but fully featured sequencer. Also, commercially it would have been a very good idea because the Kronos has one and has the advantage over the Montage because of that (even though the Montage is a much better rompler, as far as "bread and butter" instruments are concerned).
      But Yamaha can still do it in a new os update, the Montage would become both a great live/performance keyboard AND the best workstation to create music with.

  • @Wolfpack1254

    Why do they demonstrate the piano sound? Any 30 year old keyboard can do piano.... a sequencer is archaic.... hook up your computer using a Presonus analog to digital box and Studio One.... much easier to record and layer when you can see a visual screen...

    • @EduCamargoOficial
      @EduCamargoOficial 7 років тому

      The problem in fact is not the sequencer, but the keyboard's interfaces for such functionality; although I think Roland sequencers worked at their best, especially the MRC-Pro found in the XP-80.

    • @VLADANMUSIC
      @VLADANMUSIC  7 років тому +6

      Yamaha took two years to sample and perfect this Piano, it deserves to be demonstrated, plus, that's totally incorrect, what you are saying. Any old keyboard can play Piano but if you have any perception of taste you would realize that all of them sound like shit. Take care man.

      different filters yes! but mot weak, and by all means you can sample those Montage sounds and have them in a PA4X as well, the PA4X is a deal breaker compared to the Montage, Anyday.

    • @lemonslice2233
      @lemonslice2233 7 років тому +2

      The PA4X is an ARRANGER. This thing, while sadly a huge downgrade from the Motif in terms of workstation features, sounds bloody awesome. PA4X in sound comparison is corn with a capital c, but certainly a fantastic tool for it's job if you need all the stuff it provides.

    • @marike1100

      +Jose DePaz Lol, the Korg PA4X sounds like a 1997 General Midi sound set compared to Montage. Real "band-in-a-box" cheesy. Not sure what you're smoking. ;-)

    • @josedepaz30

      Markus Arike ive personally tried the 88 version of the Montage, and what's even more annoying is the fact that the display has a slow reaction time, dont believe me try it yourself,lol. Id rather stay with a XS8 any day, or a XF8. Sound per sound live, the XS OR XF sound better, the Montage sounds cheesy trying to replicate those same samples with its engine.
