The 1969 live version of inside looking out. You will be amazed by their live presence
Mos def!
Absolutely! They gotta react to that!
A must do
GFR had two vocalists. This was actually the drummer Donnie Brewer. Awesome job guys!
If you want to be surprised by a 70's rock group, try Uriah Heep. Less known today, despite some members still touring, but huge in the 70's. They only had a couple of chart hits "Stealin' and "Easy Livin", but they were massive on FM Stations with a variety of unusual songs. They had lead singers, but other band members routinely sang and they harmonized. Also try "The Wizard", "July Morning", "Look at Yourself", "Lady in Black" or "Bird of Prey",
Stealin' one of rock's great tunes.
Oh, indeed try a listen of "Wizard".
Especially if you've elevated or otherwise imbued...
My choice for elevated is The Magician's Birthday.
...but my main point for stopping by was to add this little gem: Lee Kerslake was Uriah Heep's drummer until Ozzy hired him to form his band. Lee stayed with Ozzy until he passed several years ago.
They influenced some metal
U F O. (from the 70's) 😮 huh?
I don't know what notes you guys are reading but this is actually the drummer Don Brewer who sings this song plus many other great songs by them. Mark Farner the guitarist has a higher pitched voice and the essentially split the lead vocal duties 50/50 between themselves. Both are great singers with distinct and different voices that blend very well together and also rock-out on their own. 🤘🏻
Anyways, you *DEFINITELY* need to go down the Grand Funk Railroad rabbit hole. They have so many great songs: The 10-minute epic "I'm Your Captain/Closer To Home," their great cover of The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter," "Walk Like A Man," "Footstompin' Music," their great cover of Little Eva's "The Locomotion" and "Some Kind Of Wonderful" which was a rare example of Don and Mark sharing lead vocals within the same song. I'm telling you guys, you are going to *love* Grand Funk Railroad when you're done checking them out. They are truly a great American band.
This was a HUGE number one hit for Grand Funk Railroad in 1973. Every time it was played at the Fernwood Roller Rink in Peoria, IL 65 kids started skating faster. My childhood was funkier thanks to these guys.
Also from Peoria 🤘🏼
As soon as I saw the title my first thought was hearing this at my local rolling skating rink!
You will do yourself a disservice if you don't react to "Inside Looking Out" the live version. One of the best performances out there.
THIS
Guys, Like these hippies are telling you you go deep with this band.
They've got some heavy blues songs.Big fat base and percussion.
Like the man with excellent taste. G
FIRST ALB7M AND LIVE ALBUM ..
"Inside looking out"
Rock On!
Oh ,check on Little Feet.....2 drummers horns, tight band..
Yep, this song is mandatory....
yes I've been checking everyday waiting hope you guys do, I want to go home is the sh!t too!!!
You have to do this one, it will for sure "catch you off guard"
They played everywhere in the '70's.
Inside Looking Out live version PLEASEEE!!!!!! Grand Funk’s finest work
wish you had done Closer to Home but I'll take it ;)
I'm Your Captain/Closer to Home. Got do'm together.
RIP Sweet Connie. I used to party with her in Little Rock. She was a lot of fun to hang out with.
"I Come Tumblin" is my favourite track by them. Seriously good musicianship on that one
Sweet Connie was an actual real party girl one of the groupies for the band. She was a groupie for a lot of the bands!
And Freddie King was a blues guitarist
She was also a groupie for Bill Clinton when he was governor of Arkansas.
Her name was Connie Hamzy and she passed away on Aug 21, 2021 oddly enough.
She ran for governor of Arkansas also.
IIRC Sweet Connie had a thing for drummers, and slept with all the drummers who toured through Little Rock.
If you want to be caught off guard, then perhaps try Heart - Barracuda.
Perusing through their reactions for Heart, I saw 'Crazy on you'. I'm surprised 'Barracuda' hasn't been done yet. Would love to see this one.
Magic Man is Incredible. Heart is one of my Mom's favorite bands. Heart and Rush. Lol try and figure that one out.
They already did that one
As Mike said, they already reacted to "Barracuda"...
Barracuda isn't even their best song
They were my first rock band, and my best.
One of the greatest trios ever.
thank you for bringing back the intro music.
Grand Funk was my first concert at age 14 in 1971. They have been my favorite band from that day on! One thing, on this son drummer Don Brewer was the lead singer and the writer.
Inside looking out live by these guys will definitely catch y’all off guard.
Great job. Thanks for getting back to classic rock!
I love this song, Got it when it 1st came out. Great band to.
You guys are the Kings of Reactions...nobody does it like you guys. Genuine responses, always digging deeper into bands discography. Great stuff! My top 5 I would love to hear from you guys... Grand Funk "Some Kinda Wonderful" 2) Faces w/ Rod Stewart "That's All You Need" 3) Van Halen "Outta Love Again" 4) Ratt "Lack of Communication" 5) Black Sabbath "A National Acrobat"
@4:24 the song you're thinking about isnthe then song to throw Benny Hill show, a British risqué comedy of the 60's & 70's. It's absolutely classic song put probably millions of vignettes. Y'all should do a react to the best of Benny Hill and have a great laugh
Logical Song... Super Tramp, that will catch you off guard
I'm Your Captain!
Some Kind Of Wonderful!
Y'all should do Head East - Never Been any Reason. It's a lot like this song in the "70s party rock song" aspect, but it's actually a much better song too in my opinion. Kinda like Mountain - Mississippi Queen. This one is pretty substance-less, for lack of a better term.
At our house parties in the’70s if you wanted to up the tempo and jump up and boogie, this was the song that we dropped on top of the record stack.
Grand Funk Railroad - Inside Looking Out
Great choice guys!!! A Classic!!! And I didn't know the band and Im like damnn, I love this track loll just didn't know the bands name! Keep em coming fam, you guys are killing it like usual‼‼💥💥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
You HAVE to listen to Inside Looking Out by these guys and it has to be live!!!! They are an amazing talented group!! Please do that one, you won't regret it!!!
It is a staple of any and every classic rock song list.
Don Brewer the drummer took lead on this song. He's still touring with Mel bass player. Mark Farner tours with his own band Mark Farner's American Band. In the beginning they were only a 3 member band. Eventually added a keyboard. They sold out Shea stadium faster than the Beatles did. They didn't do hard drugs, only smoke occasionally, they wanted to concentrate on the music, per Mark said in an interview.
If y’all want to get caught off guard by something from the 70s you should really check out some glam bands like Sparks or Roxy music. Queens music from this era is also pretty different.
Check out:
“This town ain’t big enough for the both of us“- Sparks
“Virginia plain“-Roxy music
“March of the black queen“-Queen
“Death on two legs“-Queen
Mark Farner was the primary vocalist, but on this tune, drummer Don Brewer is on lead vocals. They are from Flint, MI...
Coast Contra is back! Waiting for a reaction of their new freestyle, might be their best yet.
Dam they should’ve done “Inside Looking Out” instead.
Every person who loves Classic Rock knows who Grand Funk Railroad is!!
This is an absolute Classic!
One of the first rock groups I listened to, I think I was still in grade school or Jr. High when I first heard this song. You should check out "I'm Your Captain", and "Some Kind of Wonderful."
"Inside Looking Out" the live version from '69 may be the best live performance ever published on You Tube. It has to be reviewed...you guys will be amazed...
Every bar band in America back in the day covered this song, lol.
I'm your Captain is one of their greatest songs
I was at the concert in Little Rock Arkansas where they met Sweet Sweet Connie! Met her later and people should definitely stop romanticizing groupies!
Between Don Brewer (this song) and Mark Farner singing all the songs, they kill it on everything.
The official music video to this song is worth checking out.
Absolutely fantastic band, huge catalog, very versatile. Terrific live, or studio versions featuring the band in a video. Thanks for your reaction.
"We're An American Band" is the rockingest song Grand Funk ever recorded, but if you guys want to hear a completely different side of the band, check out "I'm Your Captain/Closer To Home". You will love it!
Grand Funk took their name after the Grand Trunk railroad, which ran close to the band's homes in Flint and Detroit MI
Grand Funk had hit after hit after hit... so good
4:07
Holy shit, Ryan nailed that fill.. he must have liked it if he remembered it that well a couple minutes later lol
I got a fever and the only prescription is MORE COWBELL!!!!! Rob Zombie also did a cover of this song.. That was the BENNY HILL theme you guys were humming
That was theme song to BBC's The Benny Hill Show!!! A must watch show!!!! (the tune ya'll was humming)
Grand Funk..alot could argue..they are the appitomy of blues/funk rock n roll. From "Inside looking out " "Heartbreaker" to "Closer to home"-(I'm yer captain) and you've done "Were an American band. Dig into these guys. You will appreciate them.
FYI. That was (drummer)Don Brewer singing American band
He also sings "Some kind of wonderful "..."Stop lookin back" and a few more. Mark Farner sings/writes most songs. Mel is a phenomenon on the bass. I think you'll like alot of their songs
Inside Looking Out…Live!!
Inside looking out. The LIVE VERSION!!!! It's incredible.
"Sweet Connie" is a real groupie and, has seen many a "Rock Stars" junk! Lol Great Reactions! Great Tune! Peace
You can and we did party to this all night long.
Here's something you've never heard before I bet: Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush. Funky blues hard rock. Check out their song "Finish Line" off the What's Next album. Recorded around '79-'80, it's a simple about drag racing with a serious funky groove.
Grand Funk Railroad's ''We're An American Band'' album is gold guys.. Play Creeepin.. Written in 1973...So profectic to today..
You nailed GFR when you said “ just a good ass time!” Just a great band. ☮️
"You kids don't know Grand Funk? The wild shirtless lyrics of Mark Farner? The bong-rattling bass of Mel Schacher? The competent drumwork of Don Brewer?" Homer Simpson
T.N.U.C. is Don Brewers drum solo tune, From Caught in the Act.
Guys! Grand Funk...People Let's Stop the War!!! YaGotta Yagotta Yagotta!!!!
Benny Hill is what you were looking for...
“I’ve got a fever…”
Cow Bell, babee.
It’s always a cow bell making you strut that neck and stomp you feet.
When they did this song live, it was as good or better than the studio version! Awesome band!
Awesome reaction. GFR was such a great band. My sister and her boyfriend used to listen to it all the time. I didnt appreciate it then but I sure do now. Just a side note for you, the Drummer was the one doing lead vocals on this track. He is not only a fantastic drummer but as you can hear he kicks some serious ass with his vocals too. Thanks guys for a great listen.
Produced by the brilliant Todd Rundgren. He smoothed out some of the rough edges of GFR and produced this masterpiece of an album.
They were an American Band in the middle of The British Invasion so they wanted to let everyone know. "Look out...here we come!". Farner sings most leads but this is Don Brewer the Drummer working the 'Fro on lead here.
George was pretty good with that guess.
@@jeffc1347 Yes indeed
Grand Funk had a friendly rivalry with the British band Humble Pie, and this song was kind of a shot at them.
Grand Funk even tried to poach Humble Pie's guitarist (who just happened to be Peter Frampton).
Or so the story goes.
There's no way in hell that GFR tried to poach Peter Frampton from Humble Pie. First of all, Mark Farner was already the guitarist and they certainly didn't need another one with him already in the band. Secondly...they're an American band. 🤣
Guys, you actually nailed it on the head, and then denied it. Although not stated, this song was DEFINITELY meant as a counter to all the great British rock bands.
Some kind of wonderful!
I was a teenager in the 70’s and Grand Funk was BIG!! I loved their sound. Actually it was more rock than funk. If you want to hear something completely different from the 70’s and something that everyone knows, Imagine by John Lennon. The 70’s like every other decade, had a variety of music. It wasn’t just funk or disco 🤢. I love rock-all types of rock so that’s what I remember. There were so many bands and this is when I started going to concerts. The Doobie Brothers, KISS, Three Dog Night and the list goes on and on!! There’s a lot to the 70’s!! ❤
Inside looking out live is the jam.
Definitely check out some kind of wonderful. And you need to look up who sweet sweet Connie was she was a head groupie for a lot of bands and that was her mission in life
The drummer, Don Brewer sang lead on this song.
Great classic song!!! Rob Zombie does an EXCELLENT cover of this song too!!
FACES-Stay With Me
American Band is a Grand Funk pop song. Find the live version of Inside Looking Out to see the band that Rolling Stone was talking about.
Check out the GFR Live album. Every song on the album is awesome..
As my dad says, Grand Funk Railroad is the best three guys band of all time!
It's a shame that they dont explode more in the time. The only thing I know is that the producer screwed the band stealing there money and there carreers ended earlier.
But great song! I think you should do Inside Looking Out!!
Oh man, there's so much more to that story. Mel, bassist and Don, drummer turned around and cheated Mark out of his share of the band. They tricked him into signing off to "protect" the band, got possession of his share and then kicked him out. Mark was the main vocalist and songwriter and they kicked out the heart of the band. Mel and Don are performing as a tribute band in Indian casinos across Michigan and Mark is still performing on his own. Not sure why they felt the need to do that to him, but I guess when the IRS came after them, Mark decided to fight them and then later started adding gospel to his act and the other guys didn't like it. Mark has a 9 part interview on YT telling all about this.
Put Brownsville Station 3 piece also. smoking in the boys room 😶🌫️
Simple lyrics +Simple video = Great song….this was their first song after filing bankruptcy and lawsuit by their management team….
You would like Inside Looking Out.
Just gotta do GFR's - Inside Looking Out and Some Kind of Wonderful!
Here's a song,"California here I come"by Shocking Blue, you said you wanted something different, you will enjoy 😎 thanks 👍
Y'all have to do the live version of "Inside Looking Out" if you want an example of Funk.
Their best stuff is the ones that weren't the big radio hits. What you're describing that you want to hear, be surprised etc. , actually is every other song on this record!
Ryan and George: If you're looking to be surprised by music from the 70s, try Jethro Tull. Locamotive Breath, Aqualung, or Thick as A Brick.
Frank Zappa - Inca Roads
Some kind of Wonderful
The 60’s and 70’s had the best rock music ever!
That's Don Brewer on vocals for this song.
They're named after a real railroad. The Grand Trunk Western Railroad in Michigan.
Tesla - Edison’s Medicine, Freedom Slaves ( very in topic with today), song and emotion
Mama Kin is also a killer from Tesla
You wanna get caught off guard, try The Prophet's Song by Queen!! ~~Leslie
Freddie King deserves some reactions. One of the 3 Kings.
How have you guys not reacted to Oliver Anthony yet? 😂 bro get with it he is on his second banger!!
Rich men north of Richmond and
I want to go home!!
Come on guys!!
Love you guys, vibes, comments and reactions. My suggestion would be (and I’ve seen the few reactions that you guys included the video) my to continue my suggestion would be to include the video. It would be the equivalent of as cool as you guys are you should have a blank screen and we’d just listen to you guys as you react? Isn’t the same? And the videos. 7% of impact is words. The other 93% is visual body language etc
Love the channel. Just sharing Michael
How are there comments on this video from 3 years ago if it just got posted? That's confusing.
If you really wanna get caught off guard by something from the 1970s, you really should listen to Gentle Giant, The Advent of Panurge.
Sweet connie..biggest groupie of all time!!
