The Inca Empire of Peru was conquered over 500 years ago. Peruvians take huge pride in their ancestry and the culture of the Incas is still widely celebrated to this day. There is no better example of Inca tradition than the annual Festival of the Sun, or the Inti Raymi.
Cusco-native and expert guide, Fabricio Ortiz, tells us about the famous celebration of Inti Raymi in this mini documentary. Every June 24th, Cusco stages the Festival of the Sun that honors the Inca God Inti. The elaborate procession of hundreds of actors in traditional dress begins at Qorikancha and continues through city street until the cultural grand finale in the fortress of Sacsayhuaman.
It's a cultural spectacle enjoyed by thousands of locals and travellers from all over the world. Like Carnival in Brazil or the Day of the Dead in Mexico, this is a world renowned festival unlike any other, which anybody can witness in Cusco, Peru.

The ancient name of Peloponnesus which covered a large area of southern Greece was originally called Inachia. Ina is Sanskrit for the Sun and Inachia simply means the land of the Sun. There is a lot of evidence that this is also where the Incas get their name from, being famous as Sun worshippers. Its interesting to note that the biggest festival each year observed by the Incas was called the Rama-Sitva which they have now disguised as the Inti Raymi. Sir William Jones however has preserved this historical fact in the following quote
    ~
"Rama is represented as a descendant from the Sun, as the husband of Sita, and the son of a princess named Causelya. It is very remarkable that Peruvians, whose Incas boasted of the same descent, styled their greatest festival Rama-Sitva - hence we may take it that South America was peopled by the same race who imported into the farthest parts of Asia the rites and the fabulous history of Rama." (source: Asiatic Researches Volume I. p. 426)
    ~
We also have the testimony of the Roman historian Eusebius who observed " The country was called Inachia, after King Inachus. He began to rule the Argives at the time of Thurimachus, who was the seventh king of the Sicyonians. “
    ~
In Peru we also find the ruins of the ancient observatory named “Inthihuatana”, this is two Sanskrit words “Ina” meaning the “Sun” and “Hayana” meaning the yearly solstices. As verification in the "Brihat Prashara Hora Sastra” there is the term “Inthiha” indicating a planetary alignment which reflects light back to earth. Compare the two, the Sanskrit “Inthiha” and the Peruvian “Inthihuatana” and when we consider they are both astrological observations we shall conclude that both words are from the same source.
    ~
“There is nothing strange in the fact that much of the religious mythology of the Mexicans and Peruvians was undoubtedly of Asiatic origin. Both the Inca and Mayan civilisations, even their languages had much in common with our own, inherited from the same far eastern cradle of the race” Miles Poindexter - American ambassador to Peru.

I don't know, I have seen theories saying that those explanations that most of the South American and Meso American culture coming from Asia is a massive bullshit speculation based on western manipulation , trying to diminish Latin American cultures. There were ancient cultures from the same time as Egyptians, like The Caral-Supa (waaayyy before greeks being something ) in Peru that had it's own language and is considered a pristine society that couldn't have contact with Assyrians, hindus or chinese or whatever. Same for the Omelcas in Mexico, they had they own words which made into aztec culture centuries later. Is usually English or Americans that spread those false informations for obvious reasons.

      Ra means Sun.
These indigenous people's culture/language was destroyed and they are trying to recreate ancient culture again (which should be appreciated).
However it is Ra that is the true Root word for the Sun.
Etruscans ( Ra Senna), Egyptians (Ra dynasties), Arab (Rah man), Persian ( Mith Ra) and Indian ( Che Raman/Rami/Rai) etc are all from same tribe

    • @shyamraa

@Odrek Gonne Quechua was banned by Spanish Colonizers... its revival started only in 19th century.
More 1/3 of Quechua group of languages is Spanish "loan words".
Inti could be same as "Indu" representing of E (Anu/Amu -Supeme god) Ra (Sun)
The word for House 🏠Wasa is also used in India for house.
DNA evidence shows true natives have been wiped out by Colonizers.

@@shyamraa No, that's wrong man. Quechua exists to this day and people still talk on the streets and mostly of the indigenous farmers talk in Quechua. It is original from the Incan Empire, so it stayed amongst other local languages due to trade since ancient times. Also in Quito (which were colonized by the Incan, the natives here are called Kitu-Cara), they expelled the Spanish as much as they expelled the Incan, for this reason they were never fulled colonized. I'm sure of that because I live in Quito, and when I go buy goods in the local markets, the ladies all talk in Quechua and Spanish. In Ecuador, even Quechua regular words like Atchatchay (it's too cold), is used by the whole population normally. Historically, the Spanish never had complete control over the andes, it was a very weak bind(the terrain never allowed it).Nonetheless, it was here in the Andes where we got the first independence from Europe in Latin America.

How can it be called the sun festivity and celebrating the summer solstice if on June 24th there is not summer in Peru? I am kind of confused. I will appreciate some clarification. Thank you!

    • @LatinAmericaForLess
      @LatinAmericaForLess  3 роки тому +15

Peru is in the Southern Hemisphere where there is a similar climate all year round. The main seasonal difference throughout the year is the amount of rainfall the country experiences. As such, we divide the year into two seasons: summer, also referred to as the rainy season (November - April) and winter, which is referred to as the dry season (May - October). Winter in Peru has very little rainfall and a lot of sun.
Inti Raymi celebrates the winter solstice which is the shortest day of the year in terms of the time between sunrise and sunset. After the solstice, days begin getting longer as the hours of light lengthen. Inti Raymi celebrated the Inca New Year so many offerings and rituals were held for the Sun God, Inti, to ensure a good harvest season.
Thanks for watching and we hope this clarified your question!

Completely wrong. In the inti raymi there was no human sacrifice. They brought the best of their crops and animal meat to thank the sun, and that that year was prosperous. Besides, there is a llama sacrificed during the ceremony, that was for the priest to read the will of the sun in the organs of the living llama. Currently, the llama is not sacrificed, as they say it is a representation made by actors. However, the Incas did human sacrifices, although they were not very frequent. These occurred especially when some misfortune occurred. For example droughts, the eruption of a volcano, the death of the Inka, and other misfortune. Many of these sacrifices were kids and teenagers. those were made in snowy mountains where lives were offered for the Apus to calm their anger. There is also evidence that the children did not suffer since he gave them painkiller and drugs.
I think you are confusing the Incas with the Aztecs.

This man is a mestizo. This is why he stuttered when he said the "Inka" are our ancestors. The inka were black and they know it. They were the ruling class and colonizers of south America. Inka comes from the word MANDINKA They were the same people ethnically as the fulani people of west africa. The inka were fulani NOT mongoloid or mestizo.
