This is a four lane ramp and if you look carefully as I back in, the other three are empty.
I chose a nice quiet day to do the filming.
This was the first weekend use of the year so a little out of practice.
The truck is only 2WD thus the reason for the 12,000 lb winch in the front.
I am quite surprised at how many think you need to be in and out of a ramp in two minutes or less regardless of the boat size. Yet there are a hell of a lot of video on youtube with a car or truck being dragged out of the water. People dragging there skegs on the ramp. Slipping and falling. Smoking the tires trying to get out.
The boat truck and trailer are 21,500 lbs trying to drag you down the ramp...
The way you use the red tags to "make sure" you're not missing anything is a priceless act on this concept. Thanks for making the vid.
Thanks for watching!
Real men of genius here's to I take all day to launch my boat
Exaggerating just a bit? The entire video start to end is 28 minutes. Half that is showing the prep lane setup. Less than 15 minutes in the ramp, including some time for explaining. Do you even have a boat? Do you trailer it? Is it 15,500 pounds of boat and trailer? Or a bass boat? Get real...
Patrick (Big Ass Boat Owner) I feel is super knowledgeable on very large boats. In fact... I think he was either Coast Guard or Navy. He helps people just because.
Know that videos submitted on UA-cam of this magnitude are for your benefit and certainly not his!
Remember moving forward. Life lessons....Learn from everyone and everything. Throw out the bad and keep the good.
A lot can go wrong - this guy is meticulous - he has to take his time getting that rig ready - that is a lot of weight and responsibility towing that down the road safely - so what if it takes him a half hour - For most of the time he is out of the way getting ready - very courteous - good damn job!!!
I am stealing the idea of the wheel chocks. That's fantastic. I also like the red-tag checklist substitute. I am not a checklist person, because I'd have to remember to check the checklist.
Thanks, have to admit I saw it somewhere and just passing it along...
I agree 100%.
Ironically I was talking with the wife about using the chocks a couple nights ago, before seeing this video. I'd hate to be "one of those guys" on another youtube video on "boneheaded boaters".
GOOD THING YOUR NOT GOING TO THE MOON, YOU BE CROSS CHECKING FOR MONTHS...👀✌
By
my god buddy half the summers gone while you try and launch your boat...
I have done more than my share of towing - cargo, construction equipment only one boat mainly on highways. You have a process that works for you and in my opinion the added safety your process affords the public is well worth the extra time. Hopefully though it’s done in the staging area before taking to the ramp. Thank for for considering other roadway users safety my family and I thank you.
Thanks,
Yes many do not understand regardless of how good the brakes are the load will try to keep going. It doesn't take much for even a load like this to bounce and start moving around on a trailer. The load and trailer need to act as a single object.
👍👍👏👏👏
That was GREAT !!!
AWESOME JOB !!
I've been at enough ramps to see the folks fighting to load/launch..
Thanks for watching! Thanks for subscribing more are coming
Well I'm from Michigan and watching snow melt is a lot more fun than this video.
Thanks for this I grew up with a small 16' aluminum boat, and I've always wanted something very similar to your Sea Ray there, but everyone I've ever mentioned that dream to tells me "You'll hate towing something that big never do it". Sure its not "easy" but thank you for giving me an example of what I've always thought, you just need to be highly organized, prepared, and not rush :)
thanks for watching!
You just have to be mindful of your weight, height and width.
With a decent tow vehicle it's straight forward.

The tags are a great idea
Super job. You are a man after my own heart by taking all due precautions. About the only thing I would do differently is to do my prep work farther back from the launch ramp.
Thanks for watching!
It's a small parking area that is the front of the "prep lane", there is room for others to go around as different folks are ready.
Hello, best regards. The video is very instructive. I really liked it to motivate me to have a boat. On the other hand, so that you don't forget the fenders, you have to put red flags on the rails, a strategy that I am going to follow for when I have a boat. Thanks for the advice.
Never seen such an overcomplicated launch. Wow! Unbelievable.
I'm sitting here with my jaw on the floor. I've never seen anything like this shir
We launch our 30’ sun dancer every week on Lake Erie Ohio. We have a dodge diesel shallot People think we are nuts. But we have it down to a science.
Thanks for watching!
Well done. Leaving nothing to chance. 👍
Thanks for watching!
Roller trailer...jeeze..
Whats your plans for the boat? Oh yeah disregard the haters. Keep the content coming.
A new interesting question...
The concept behind BABOAT is that although larger than typical trailer boat (it requires a wide load permit) we bought it intending to travel regionally with it. There are several modifications I have made that allow us to use it both in the water and on land. The most obvious of these is the "boarding ladder" which was actually a "Dock Ladder". We take it to the coast of the Carolina's and South Florida where we have family.
Since there seems to be a growing interest I am in progress with several slide show videos explaining past modifications where I took photos but not many videos.
We converted all overboard discharge to gray water tank, gray water is recycled for flushing to black water tank. Modifications also include the ability to use RV type pump out facilities. The electrical upgraded to full 240V/50A service with modern RCD protection for use at both RV parks & marinas. The trailer has the storage box for accessories and soon will have a radiator and fans mounted on the back to cool the AC when operated ashore.
In addition to these custom modes for ashore use there have been extensive repairs to the interior due to some initial problems, complete helm rewiring and of many accessories. Numerous electronic additions both in place and soon to be added.
And I am setting up to better record future "road" trips...
That sounds interesting id watch
there's a few things you could do at home prior to heading to the water to shave about 20 minutes off that launch time
I can save 20 minutes just not filming and talking...
Others have pointed out the time to, but I have a process and it gives me confidence in the safety of it. I started as it is when I arrive. I wont tow a mile without the full straps and and setup for towing, batteries off, out drives blocked, etc.
I'm not going to blow a trim line and arrive to find one of the drives was dragging on the pavement.
I do start and warm up on cuffs before I leave home, engines are fully checked out. Gear loaded etc.
Wow, so much overkill...which is a great thing. You should be the poster children for proper launching and operations- you're probably the safest boaters within 500 miles!
Thanks for watching! Please subscribe.
Yes it’s a distinct possibility on this lake.
Great job some people can’t launch a Jet Ski with help.
Any new boater should watch and learn.
thanks! This is a bit dated now, I have improved the process. Please subscribe go to publish some more soon!
Alfred might be speechless!!
Alfred is never speechless...
Very cool. We have a 90 Searay 350 40ft. boat on Lake Allatoona. Not sure I would ever attempt your routine. Very impressive and love your safety system.

It's a lake ;-)
Does your wife, does you daughter, does you son-in-law ever get to drive the boat? It looks like your whole life is a one man operation!!!! Watching from Los Angeles, CA
Be careful…I’m still struggling to prevent the anchor from hooking the winch on the way down while boat slides off trailer I have bunks…,, it’s clearing by inches,, I even removed anchor , but windlass hardware got hooked .. tough to get the right trade off between how deep to get the trailer,, and keeping the bow high enough so windlass clears the trailer winch..
Yes if I backed in any further the stern starts to float on this ramp. Keeping it up and winching down the boat lets it clear the post before the bow drops. This is many years ago now and I have shortened the post a few more inches, gone to a single chock and lowered the winch. But I also have a larger Delta anchor now so still close. I also upgraded to a 6000lb winch and use a snatch block for recovery.
This is the most complicated way of launching a boat I’ve ever seen…
Boat is in. Time to go home.
Let me guess ... you are a retired astronaut. Thanks for all the tips. Nice spot. I too am usually by myself and need to have a system so that things go safely. I love the roller trailer and electric winch with remote. I too have to watch for anchor to winch post contact as the ramp is steep and the back end needs to float a little. I slip mine so I only do this once a season. Nice video sir. Thanks again.

Anyone that says you need to be in and out of a ramp in two minutes or less regardless of the boat size you need to get off the drugs and weed. You are going to tear something up or possibly kill yourself because you are a tragic accident waiting to happen.
The hydraulics support the whole weight of the boat When you trim it Wow I think the Lower units can support Their own weight
It’s not the weight it’s bouncing down the highway you wont know if they start to creep down until its to late and you’ve ground off the skegs. If a hose or valve leaks while in the water no damage.
Patrick: enjoyed your launch and recovery video's. Great safety tips. On a non-related item: I notice you have a Garmin transducer on the stern of your boat. Did this replace your raymarine thru hull transducer and was this a improvement. I have a 2008 Sea Ray 290 that has a failed transducer and I'm curious if your setup has any advantages. Thanks Ralph
Mine was a lake boat when I bought it and had no electronics except the Sea Ray dash mounted depth gauge. I picked up a Garmin GPSMAP840xs with Chirp Sonar on a closeout deal. The unit came with a transom mount and it has worked well. I could do a thru hull but that would just be an extra $500-1000 and doesn't seem necessary for what we do. We dont fish mostly use the sonar for reef checking for snorkeling/diving when in Florida. Really got the unit for chart plotter and radar display.
@@BigAssBoatOnATrailer thanks Patrick

The people saying this takes too long are the same ones that end up forgetting the plug, have tie down attached, safety chain attached, etc. lol.
I guess 15 minutes from start to water is just too long (with no issues and your feet aren't even wet).
Hi can you tell me the link where to get the quick release I would like to get one for each of my boat's I think it will help me out a lot . I have a embroidery machine I can put the name on the tag's
Be aware of several things for safety.
The weight of the boat (but you are not lifting the entire weight it is a rolling load approx 50%). The strength of the line/cable. The strength/pull of the winch.
My boat is 12,500lb, this video is a 4000lb winch, it proved a little weak and I have since upgraded to a 6000lb winch. The synthetic line is rated 12,000lb breaking strength. And the snap shackle is rated 8000lb. A winch is rated on the first wrap or layer. After that it gets weaker as the line fills the drum. So the winch will stalls at 6000lb or less. Everything else is stronger than the winch.
If you have a large/heavy boat stick with quality brands for this, Ronstan or Wichard.

They are available from many suppliers.
Yeah this is how you get your ass kicked in Florida if people see you take that long to launch your boat there gonna have you swimming and cursing you out the whole time, just launch it and go takes no more then 5 minutes to put the boat in the water parks the truck and leave all that shit you did is prep which is done before hand
That is all being done in the prep lane at these ramps, there is ample room to go around if others are ready to go. The "launch" part starts at minute 16 and takes only 9 minutes.
Any views of your radar mount? Would it work folded with a camper top?
It wouldn’t interfere with the mount up
But the canvas would need to be removed for transport.
But I think that would be normal unless you s going a very short distance
Good thing that's not a busy ramp! Almost 30 minutes to launch a powered Clorox bottle in perfect conditions at that ramp. We have a tidal river with a 5+ knot current and usually windy. I use the midship cleat to run a line to the dock just before splash with enough slack to launch. With my roller trailer I back up enough to where the stern is floating. Release the safety chains and winch then power off or just push off depending on the tide. I position the trailer next to the dock where I can easily board. The entire process takes me about 4 minutes. The ramp is steep enough that my rear truck tires stay dry. Interesting video!
First off, Love your photos of Gloucester, I spent two years serving at Cape Ann Light Station on Thatcher Island with the twin towers...
Certainly New England has much steeper ramps and greater tide changes. But part of a roller vs a bunk trailer is you don't need to float the boat off or on. And as with most everyone, I show the entire prep process, in prep parking lane. Less than 9 minutes is in the ramp even with all the filming...
@@BigAssBoatOnATrailer Thanks! Please excuse the term "powered Clorox bottle" that's what us locals call that style of boat. Update: Historians discovered the correct spelling to be "Thacher", somewhere along the lines a "t" was added incorrectly. The wood ramp on the island must have been a challenge at times. My brother-in-law grew up at Eastern Point Lighthouse, his dad was the keeper there. I've had both bunk and roller trailers and by far I prefer roller trailers because they are user friendly at different designs of ramps. Bunks are ok for boats under 15' where most that size they are light enough to lift the bow and reposition. Best Regards, Jay
Yes the ramp was interesting, especially in the winter. We had a 17' Boston Whaler Montauk with a 25HP, the center keel V was modified with a steel angle to protect it.
You got on plane running the boat from the stern at the engine tiller. You aimed for the ramp and when you lost sight over the bow of where the ramp and the water met you cut the throttle, the engine would naturally partial tilt up from the drag, you grabbed it an tilted up and locked. Then you hit the ramp...
Would slide up past the breaking waves and the crew ashore would snap the winch line into the bow eye.
If the ramp was dry no big deal, but if it was wet or if it was winter iced (then we were in wet suits) it could get very exciting. Slide down into the surf once, very cold and spent the first day drying out all our clothes.
@@BigAssBoatOnATrailer I had a 1970 13' Boston Whaler that I got new making money in local boat yards painting boat bottoms! Boat, motor 40hp "Rude" and trailer for $1400.00! My sister and her husband still use it! As a young teen I was almost at full speed going along the Annisquam River when the harbormaster stopped me. Back then the posted limit was 5 mph but explained to him because of the helm and tanks and battery at the stern at 5 mph I cause a large wake and can't see over the bow! He let me go. Soon after the 5 mph limit signs were taken down and new "No Wake" signs went up!

Love the red flight tags, excellent way not to forget something like the boat plug! I'm looking at buying a 300DA, what is the interior height below deck?
I'm just six foot and I have to duck slightly coming down the stairs into the galley/salon. But once there I have a few inches above me.
Again I have to duck just slightly for the door to the head, but inside its full height for me.

so many unessary steps , lots can be done at home , just hope i wont have to wait at the boat launch for guys like this
Thanks for watching,
if you looked I was in the prep lane until minute 16:00 anyone is free to go around at that time. From 16:00 to about 25:00 was the launch so 9 minutes I was in the ramp. And the other three ramps are empty.
And that was with an extra few minutes due to forgetting to hang the fenders, without the distractions of filming and talking it's like 5 minutes in the ramp.
This is a 30 foot 10'6" wide boat, rig weights 21,500 pounds. So no I wont rush.
Boy tough crowd...

@@BigAssBoatOnATrailer Love your dedication to safety. Your boat weight with trailer is 21K? We have a 90 Searay 39.4 ft with 12.4 beam with 2 454's and V-Drive transmissions. During survey it weighed in at 13444 with half fuel tanks. You have a very heavy boat. No wonder you take your time. Thanks for posting
11,500 boat

@@BigAssBoatOnATrailer Heavy trailer. Can I borrow it to haul out ours? We have have our engines ready to install. Marina service dept sucks here. Let me know. Thanks
You're kidding right? It wouldn't work. While the trailer is rated more than enough, 15,000 carrying max, it would have to be completely re-rigged to fit yours. I have I/O you have shafts; rollers would be in the wrong places. Winch post is to far back, axle to far back because your 10' longer and the engines a further forward. And I have no place to put my boat I keep it on the trailer unless I'm actually using it. And I think I'm like six hours from you.
I used to live in Rock Hill Sc, that is as a child.

Hmmm so the radar comes down for prob for height on highway but yet 102 nches wide is max without permits.. so what us the laws where your at for max with on trailers. Which is the same for any trailer or boat on federal and state highways...
Correct, I have an annual permit for South Carolina and when traveling interstate I have to get permits for Georgia and Florida usually. Signage is required out of state in SC no signage is required under 12” but I run with signs if Anything but local.
How is it you live in North Carolina and you have a Delaware registration on the side of the boat what's up with that
SC South Carolina
The last letters just happen to be DE
I'm sorry but this is honestly the craziest shit I've ever seen. I launch my 29 da in. Few minutes. My brother launches his 34 scarab in few minutes. This is unbelievable
That trailer looks like it’s worth more than his truck.
What quick release do you use?
That was difficult to find one stainless, and strong enough. It's a sailboat Kong USA, Quick Release 520 Stainless Steel Fixed Eye Size 3 , rated 8000 lbs. Should release under load but a little sticky when loaded.
@@BigAssBoatOnATrailer Awesome and Thank you. Great video!
That boat could easily pull that truck into the drink.
Thanks for watching!
Yes it could, so could a lot of 20-30 footers. Thats way the front chocks and the 12,000 winch on the front. Just in case it spins the tires or starts to slip.
@@BigAssBoatOnATrailer no worries mate, nice boat be very careful that's alot of boat lol enjoy.
Very true, however the electric trailer brakes with well treaded tire probably provide excellent security against that. I would hope...?
@Troy Ball the truck will stop when the boat starts floating!
The truck needs duel rear wheels for traction without 4 x4 and a front winch
The dually really don't help much as all the tires would still be in the wet/slick zone.
But it does have a 12,000lb front mounted receiver winch which I do tie off on questionable ramps.
Thanks!
Do you use the boat on local lake
I guy in boat, 1 guy in truck, back boat in and start it, put boat in reverse and back out. Other guy pulls truck and trailer out. 4 minutes!
Thanks for watching.
But the process is for "1 guy" only, single handed launch and recovery.
And I didn't make it looking for how others think it should be done. Most people have bunk trailers, bunks are common because they are cheaper. I have used and owned many roller trailers and would not get a bunk style. You don't float on and off rollers, that's the advantage, you don't need to back in so far.
I hope you’re not taking that guy who’s not helping for a ride. Lol
I like the Red Flag idea. Stealing
Wouldn't all those keys on your hip pull you under if you fell in the water?
I wonder if Alfred has watched this? Wait for it.......
No saltwater crocks here...
It pays to be methodical. Everything goes smoothly. No omg / wtf. lol
Thanks for watching, and thank you for "getting it"...
by watching this video, I am much happier now with my 18ft searay bowrider...lol... no sir... this is too much bs to be a few hours in the water
When we launch we stay out all weekend, typically Friday noon thru Sunday.
Sometimes even launch Thursday evening.

Why would you leave your boat tied up to the launch while you park your truck and trailer? Isn’t it common curtesy to park your boat first AWAY FROM THE LAUNCH, and then driving your truck and trailer to park so that other boaters can launch? Do you always park in the launch? I thought parking in the launch was only for medical or boat emergencies.
These ramps only have the finger docks, there are no other docks or landings.
Thanks for asking
Glad im not following you
This is not the proper way to secure a boat to the trailer.
More than one way to do many things.
The over bow strap insures the boat cant over run the trailer/truck in a panic stop. The over stern strap insures the boat and trailer act as a single unit and can not shift or bounce.
The stern eyes were trying to pull the boat forward on the rollers to much. The bow chain is fine for preventing it from rolling off, but not enough to satisfy me on the highway.
28min for a 3 min job
So much BS to go through. I bet you get a lot of one finger salutes from everyone waiting to use the ramp or the handicapped spaces you have blocked.
No here in South Carolina folks a very civil. If you look 15 minutes is spent in the prep lane. People are always waved around if we're not ready. And you should see that three other ramp lanes are empty. The whole video is only 30 minutes, do the math.
And that's with filming.
@@BigAssBoatOnATrailer I stand by my comment, 15 minutes of boat prep is excessive. Doesn't matter where you are from.
Way too small of a truck for a 12500 pound 33 foot boat you need a dully truck atleast
Another myth; I can link you to many dually being sunk at ramps...
That is a 3/4 ton truck, the 1 ton dually has the same exact engine and actually tows 1,000 pounds LESS, can carry more in the bed but you lose the weight of the heavier axle and extra tires towing. The dually only gives you a little more contact with the pavement. But that doesn't help on wet ramps, the rear tires are always the ones in the slick zone. 4x4 helps more than dually .
It is NOT a 12500 lb boat.
