why i love my wee country.... this is why! our boys, fought and died. they gave there all. this is the only reason i stand here today. i shall stand forever more,l as a ulster man proud and tall.
Very informative and interesting video. Some of the videos about the 36th Division seem to think that Ulster and Northern Ireland are synonymous terms where, as you rightly point out, vounteers and battalions from Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal were also in the 36th.
@tate247 , The men of Easter week were no cowards. They fought knowing they had no chance of success against the biggest Empire on Earth at the time. The 36th Division were not alone at the Somme either, the 10th and 16th Irish Divisions combined loses there add up to more than the losses of the 36th. Check out the 'Island of Ireland Peace Park' on youtube or Wikepaedia. The inscription on that memorial says it all.
Great video both my great great uncle lost their lives in WW1 one was in the Royal irish rifles and the other was in the north irish horse. They both died in the somme i think. One was lost in action blown the bits and there is no record of him and the other was killed during a bombing raid at a field dressing station. RIP to all the men to gave their lives to queen and country
The 16th Irish Division was also present at the Somme both Protestants and Catholics died side by side all issues put aside to help win the War so read a book! AND SHOW SOME RESPECT!
my father, his father, and his father before him, fought in the british army...all for ulster..no.....but they never bent the knee..my father talked highly of the southerners and catholics in the commando reg...ulster is my land, ulster is my cause.
@strongarmofthepaw the kaiser was in charge of Germany in ww1 not hitler, but yeah the 36th were heroes as were a lot of southern Irish, who were viewed as traitors, and to a certain extent are now.My Grandads cousin died on 1st July with the Accrington pals aged just 20.They did what im certain you and i wouldnt have the guts to do.My daughter serving as a nurse in helmand.Lest any of us forget

NO SURRENDER!
Even though they were traitorous unionists, their actions at the Somme must be commemorated.
"traitorous unionists,". Someone needs to go home.
Alan Mac What? Majority of the 36th Ulster were Unionists (traitors to Ireland and her people).
Israel Ben Yehuda Truth hurts. Though brave, the 36th were traitors to their land.
FORGOTTEN HEROES
excellant video ! FGAU
