Honestly, all creatives always talk about waking up at 3-5 AM and a sis just CAN’T. I rather go to bed at 3-5 AM because I was writing. So I understand how showering and breakfast can get lost within your day. I’m rooting for you!
My morning routine has collapsed over the last few weeks as I try to adjust to this "new normal." But as a WFH veteran, and can confirm that routines are important to both your productivity and your mental and physical health. It takes time to figure out what works best for you and your household (if you share a space with other people), and you may need some "trial and error" time. But stick with it and give yourself some grace. It's worth it.
I hear this so hard. I will say I finally have a mor ing routine, but it took a while for me to develop it... like a year long while... I knew how i WANTED to start my day but couldn't seem to drag myself put of bed to do it all. I started just adding one thing a month after several months of inconsistency. It's much easier to wake up up only 5 minutes earlier than you have all month than trying to wake up an hour earlier just so you can do all of it all at once from the very beginning. Add just one step to your routine each month so you dont get exhausted and stop doing it!

I'm so glad someone finally said it. I always felt like I was doing something wrong or something was wrong with me if I did do other people's morning routine. but it's so good to hear that you've got to find what works for you. And over the year I just felt drained by trying to wake up early or go to bed early or do what works for other people. I think I'm going to follow you on your journey by doing a morning routine that makes me happy.
Honestly, in quarantine, a morning routine makes a HUGE difference in how much like garbage I feel. I like to premake breakfasts, so I'll throw a breakfast burrito in the toaster oven, start the coffee, hop in the shower, and put on actual clothes. It is LIFE SAVING (for me)
Like Steve Jobs, I too also like to wear the same thing for efficiency.. PJ's haha Working from home is so hectic for me, I attempted to paint today.. I don't paint but it was fun! haha
When I had a regular job I tried to have a morning routine. Since things have been unstable (even before CoVid19) I try to keep things simple but there is always room for improvement.
I just started opening my blinds in the morning after I wake up like the living dead. I can't turn the sun down and it keeps me from feeling comfortable enough to get back into bed. Also MAKE YOUR BED. It also helps. Thank you Evelyn! My online thrift shop/blog~www.heyredshop.com
My current morning routine: -Thank God for waking me up & say my daily declarations (i.e. "I have the divine power to do all that God has called me to do!" -Sing/have a dance party while I freshen up -Have quiet time (read a devotion & pray) -Breakfast while watching UA-cam -Get to work crossing things off of my To Do list! ( My job is on pause due to COVID-19, so I'm trying to declutter my apt., read, avoid spending too much time on the overwhelming amount of IG lives and challenges going on right now😑, etc.) *I need to start working out in the morning again, but I'm not there yet. I'm hoping to get back into it soon, though!
Before YT, recently, I didn't know what a morning or night routine was! But I been a parent since 20. If u feel u need structure then try everything u need to try. For me, I don't like confinement...of any kind! Whatever I do in the morning when I wake up, I do! Eat breakfast for dinner, take a shower whenever the day tells me to, watch tv all day, go out all day....its whatever, my freedom😎
Thank you Evelyn for being so real. As someone who has worked from home on and off for year as I work in tech, right now I'm struggling to get a routine in place. My gym is my anchor but with the UK being on total lockdown and gym being close right now, I'm finding myself in my pyjamas at lunch time and I hate it! I've put on a blazer and lip gloss over my crusty overnight getup many times lately for the obligatory MS Teams video conference call.
I have a morning routine that’s not rigid. I give myself 2-3 hours (depending on what time I wake up) of me time. Some days it includes journaling, sometimes reading, sometimes meditation sometimes devotional, and scripture of the day etc. sometimes it’s all of the above. Other times it’s music and dancing, or cooking breakfast, but the point is that it’s my free time to do whatever I want before I start my workday.
keep it simple, like super simple. Make bed, make breakfast, then write a to do list/ check calendar. If I get this far, not even doing any other tasks yet, I'm still so proud of myself.
Hi Evelyn! I dont have a specific routine, but every day if I have to get a lot done, I'll make a list of things I must do and plan that accordingly. For the most part I like showing the night before and eat whenever I'm hungry. Routine is so harsh, I prefer something like a 'morning guide'
As long as you're being productive and also setting aside time for yourself, it's fine. I don't think its mandatory to have a set routine, but it definitely helps. I was a Peace Corps Volunteer before being evacuated and brought back to the US. I used to have a daily checklist and tried my best to check everything off on that checklist. Shower, eat, drink 100oz water, pray, devotion and water plants were an everyday thing. Other things were read a book, practice Spanish, something else important and then to call a loved one. Now, I'm currently in a 2 week self-quarantine. My routine has been waking up to eat, shower and Netflix. Or shower, eat and Netflix. I had a Spanish lesson this morning, talked to 6 different people today and edited a podcast episode today to be productive. I told myself that I'm going to do my podcast course tomorrow, so hopefully I'll do it. If not, it'll be shower, eat, Hulu and possibly Netflix.
i always feel so seen when i watch your videos. you understand me so well! Last night i told myself that I was going to get up early and do yoga. I put on snooze as soon as my alarm went off. its hard out here!
1:58 sent me. Evelyn!!!!! You're so hilarious. Please keep being you and blessing us with this wonderful content (ofc take care of yourself as well!) 💙
hey cuz 🤘🏾 i too have struggled in the past w/ not following other people’s morning routines, or decoration ideas, or bullet journal formats just bc i like the way it looks/feels for _them_ i fixed it by paying more attention to what rly feels good to me first! i started taking inspiration not just from stuff that looks good, but stuff that tastes, sounds, & feels good my favourite drink that takes time to make but is sweet and worth the effort. my favourite band tee shirt that’s lowkey raggedy as hell but is cozy. my favourite song to hear in the morning that makes me feel like i’m clearing my head. “what would it look like if i designed a wardrobe, or a morning routine, or a journal around how these things make me feel?” that’s what’s been working for me!
You are so relatable it's insane. I would love this too but being in the bed in the morning is my hap po y place. Its breaking the plane of the bed that burns my soul
Thank you for your honesty, however, you asked for suggestions and I'm able to give one. So, I do have a morning routine but it took some time getting there. When I wake up for work, after my toilet time and bathroom shananagens, I come in my room to do a 10 minute meditation. After, I may scroll through my phone, mindlessly, for a bit or just start getting dressed. I have my breakfast, which is cereal because I'm not trying to be late for work. Pack my lunch that's either dinner from the night before or a sandwich I prepped or made that morning, lets not forget my in between snacks. Make my coffee and then I'm out the door. Now that I'm working from home, for whatever the reason, I still wake up damn early but instead of getting ready for work, I would lay in bed for maybe 30 minutes before getting up to do my bathroom routine. I would then meditate for 10 minutes, get dressed (pajamas or sweats) and prepare my lunch which has been eggs with string cheese or yogurt, until I feel for cereal again. My thing is, I made this routine because it's not about anyone else but me at that time. I can't do be like Steve Jobs and I don't have any kids but moving around when the house is quiet is my way of creating my peace. Plus I'm seeing a nutritionist who is helping me with my meals, which I enjoy more than I expected. It's your rhythm, whatever floats your boat should be your vehicle in creating a better morning routine in my honest opinion. But I do enjoy you, girl. Thank you for being you lol
😂😂😂 I am soo feelingggggggg this video and totally relate!!! Our mornings however or whatever we do should be for US and only us! When I was working 9-5 I’d get up and be dressed to walk out the door in 10 min. NOW that I chose to leave that life and do better for my damn self, one thing I started was a prayer book. I take a few minutes every morning and write out prayer. For me, it sets my mood and tone for the day. No lie, I did have different expectations for myself but the reality is I still skip breakfast and I ain’t working out 😭😭🤦🏻♀️.
Been doin' this lately and it's super great: 1) Wake up (mostly groggy AF lately, but sometimes well-rested...but mostly exhausted...) 2) DON'T reach for the phone right away. F*ck you news cycle. 3) Washroom. Do the things. Freshen up, brush teeth, weigh yourself, put on contacts/glasses, whatever. 4) HYDRATE - get that wata' in. 5) Grab phone. Don't read about the apocalypse. Don't go on social platforms (yet) put on Spotify, a happy playlist! 6) Tidy up. Put clean dishes away, ponder what you might want for breakfast, feed the pet if you have one, drink more water, wipe down counters. 7) Get dressed in some comfies. 8) Meditate. (Sit comfy, use an app if needed, or a guided meditation on UA-cam. Calm yourself, breathe deep, think, or don't, look inside yourself). 9) Feelin' great! Now you can pretty much do whatever you want. I usually have breakfast at this point so as not to get hangry. 10) Exercise: this could just be a walk outside, or a HIIT workout, or yoga. Then either: - shower and get ready for the day or - stay in comfies and clean, de-clutter, journal, call a friend, work, whatever. - EAT LUNCH! Don't forget to eat healthy meals regularly to keep yourself sane during this messed up time. - Afternoon should be fun stuff; gaming, netflix, watch youtube, read a book, have a dance party.
I'm a spoonie so meal prep is not possible for me atm so I recommend Ensure! It's a *fast* breakfast option and the plant-based ones in vanilla is surprisingly tasty! And there's always yogurt!
Since school (which is my work) is out my morning routine has SUFFERRRRRED!!! haha I used to try and do yoga in the mornings BUTTTT I realized I feel much healthier and have more energy when I spend that time making and having a meal. Nobody has a lot of time in the morning, so I boil a sweet potato and have it with salad. It is soft and yummy and so filling and delicious. The time it takes to make and sit down and have the actual meal is my version of *self care* and makes me feel like a human. Trying to keep it up doing quarantine times. #babysteps
For years, first as a student and now working my routine for mon - friday has been the same. Evelyn, peace is within you. You share so much with the world, you deserve time invested in yourself. Much love
Yes! Your routine is for YOU. Take what works and makes sense, throw out the rest, and add some custom stuff.
So...I need a full video of the crazy piano mash ups at the end!! That gave me LIFE!!! 😂😂😂
Honestly, in quarantine, a morning routine makes a HUGE difference in how much like garbage I feel. I like to premake breakfasts, so I'll throw a breakfast burrito in the toaster oven, start the coffee, hop in the shower, and put on actual clothes. It is LIFE SAVING (for me)
This is the realest video I’ve seen all week! I’ve been trying for 2 weeks to get a routine to work at home and someone understands!!!
I chuckled so much at this video. Now that I’m working from home I can definitely feel the WFH struggles!
1:57 - 2:05 sent meeeeee 🤣😫😅 Evelyn, you are a national treasure & must be protected at all costs.
Like Steve Jobs, I too also like to wear the same thing for efficiency.. PJ's haha
Working from home is so hectic for me, I attempted to paint today.. I don't paint but it was fun! haha
When I had a regular job I tried to have a morning routine. Since things have been unstable (even before CoVid19) I try to keep things simple but there is always room for improvement.
Lol!!! That is so me!!! Everyday is meshing w/ the next. I have to do things to break up the monotony. I love you girl!
The piano serenade made my entire day! 💜
My current morning routine:
-Thank God for waking me up & say my daily declarations (i.e. "I have the divine power to do all that God has called me to do!"
-Sing/have a dance party while I freshen up
-Have quiet time (read a devotion & pray)
-Breakfast while watching UA-cam
-Get to work crossing things off of my To Do list! ( My job is on pause due to COVID-19, so I'm trying to declutter my apt., read, avoid spending too much time on the overwhelming amount of IG lives and challenges going on right now😑, etc.)
*I need to start working out in the morning again, but I'm not there yet. I'm hoping to get back into it soon, though!
Your piano playing may be questionable but the emotion is definitely there 😂😂 But fr, I feel inspired to create my own morning routine...eventually
Thank you for pointing out that morning routines are very personal.
God, I love my internet cousin! You bring me joyyyyy!!!!😃
Hi Evelyn! I dont have a specific routine, but every day if I have to get a lot done, I'll make a list of things I must do and plan that accordingly. For the most part I like showing the night before and eat whenever I'm hungry. Routine is so harsh, I prefer something like a 'morning guide'
You know we needed this dose of reality! Thank you
As long as you're being productive and also setting aside time for yourself, it's fine.
"Just because your job is cool doesn't mean it's not a job." #message
Thanks Evelyn!
Yes. Showering and teeth brushing do help with the next idea, to creative process!
Ok! Let's go timing. I'm currently compiling an ideal morning routine while working from home 😁
still relevant lol i felt the “crust still in my eye” sis. i did 🤘🏽
1:58 sent me. Evelyn!!!!! You're so hilarious. Please keep being you and blessing us with this wonderful content (ofc take care of yourself as well!) 💙
I think u are the most relatable person i ve ever watch onlinn
hey cuz 🤘🏾
i too have struggled in the past w/ not following other people’s morning routines, or decoration ideas, or bullet journal formats just bc i like the way it looks/feels for _them_
i fixed it by paying more attention to what rly feels good to me first! i started taking inspiration not just from stuff that looks good, but stuff that tastes, sounds, & feels good
my favourite drink that takes time to make but is sweet and worth the effort. my favourite band tee shirt that’s lowkey raggedy as hell but is cozy. my favourite song to hear in the morning that makes me feel like i’m clearing my head. “what would it look like if i designed a wardrobe, or a morning routine, or a journal around how these things make me feel?”
that’s what’s been working for me!
Me too! I always try to have snacks too.
Thank you for posting. I’m on day 4 of being sick and this is much needed distraction 😊
I need more piano Evelyn ! That last part was gold lol
Why does the thumbnail make me chuckle furiously!!!
You. You are a gem. I enjoyed laughing for a change. Love you please stay well EVELYN!
You are so relatable it's insane. I would love this too but being in the bed in the morning is my hap po y place. Its breaking the plane of the bed that burns my soul
Appreciate the borg reference + this extremely relatable WFH vid. Thanks, cuz!
OMG that book at 1:55, I love that book! That's a great rec!!!
I love this video... so much FACTS!!!!!
I love you. Your videos make me smile and laugh unlike anything else.
Been doin' this lately and it's super great:
1) Wake up (mostly groggy AF lately, but sometimes well-rested...but mostly exhausted...)
2) DON'T reach for the phone right away.
Then either:
- shower and get ready for the day
or
- stay in comfies and clean, de-clutter, journal, call a friend, work, whatever.
- EAT LUNCH! Don't forget to eat healthy meals regularly to keep yourself sane during this messed up time.
- Afternoon should be fun stuff; gaming, netflix, watch youtube, read a book, have a dance party.
The swinging side to side, day by day is sending meeeeeeee 😂😂😂😂
Yo this is why I love you because your realistic!!!! Thanks
“It be feeling like three Wednesdays in a row...” The whole working from home world is definitely feeling you on this one girl.
YOUR VIDEOS MAKE ME SO HAPPY
I'm a spoonie so meal prep is not possible for me atm so I recommend Ensure! It's a *fast* breakfast option and the plant-based ones in vanilla is surprisingly tasty! And there's always yogurt!
Love your routine. I found you while looking for La Croix videos but am staying because you’re awesome!! 🤩
This was great! Thank you! 🤗🤗🤗
I’ve got to say your makeup looks really good. Love your videos so much!
So freaking RELATABLE! MY GOSH!
I needed to see this! For the humor and practicality.... Love this especially since we are quarantined and trying to create normalcy.💕
I love the music at the end end!!! Find that note Evelyn!! it's out there somewhere
Always enjoy your spirit ❣️
Can we just... pause.... for that amazing piano solo!! Lol 😂 Love your vids!
Girl! You give me life!
Cousin! That piano Kilt me! Lol we want more!
#babysteps
🎵 Every time I come around the city...bling bling...🎵
For years, first as a student and now working my routine for mon - friday has been the same. Wake up 1,5 hours before going somewhere, eat some kind of cereal and green tea, get dressed and ready, chill and then out... as im also working from home now, that routine has stayed but I get more sleep in due to not having to commute, soooo wish I could incorporate some play these days or somethime more relaxing, but i prefer the extra sleep :D
