Bril is the best ink we have in India for fountain pens.. This I say after using all the inks available in India over the last 60 years. I have been using fountain pens from 1955. I have used many inks over the years- Quink, Chelpark, Sulekha, Krishnaveni, Daytone, etc. In the late 50s/early 60s we had a brand called "Iris" in Chennai and Bangalore ( from Research Chemical Labs- Rechlabs). I think it got transformed into "Bril" around 1964 or so. ( from Industrial Research Corporation)- also from Chennai and Bangalore. I am using this ink since then. I have used other inks when I lived in other parts of India where Bril was not available. Bril does not clog the pen, does not dry in the pen, dries quickly on paper. I have used this ink in all sorts of pens with different filling mechanisms- it has done consistently well. The notes I took during college days in the late 50s-early 60s ( with Krishnaveni, Iris and Bril inks) are still there- the writing has not faded away. The pages I wrote with Parker Quick did fade away after a few months.
Bril comes in the same bottle ! The cap becomes lose on opening and does not close tight.
The blue is not blue enough to my liking- but this is with all Indian brands. It gets better with a medium or broad nib or wet writer.
Now, Bril ink is not readily available in local shops even in Bangalore and Chennai! Where available, only two colours are found- Royal Blue and Red, while they make inks in 8 colours. Green and Turquoise are very difficult to find. I have written to the company about this- but they seem to be smug. Camlin is more market savvy.
Camlin is now Kokuyo Camlin. It too costs Rs.25 for 60ml bottle.
Recently, we are hearing of Daytone in two versions- the ordinary and a superior one. These must be compared. In Chennai we have a new brand "penhouse.in" . This too must be tried.

Hello. I am from Punjab. I tried a lot to get Brill ink; It isn't available on the shops. Then at their online store, they ask for a minimum purchase of 500 rupees. Currently I am using parker quink, but I really don't like its colour as it's Blue-Black type. Can you Please suggest some way so that I can purchase Brill ink?

@@rakeshverma-1 Sir, I realise your position. Even in the South, in places like Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mysore , etc Bril is not readily available in the local shops. Their online site is horrible -it is not user friendly. While we are shopping and filling items, the other items in the cart disappear. Sometimes, the whole screen goes off! After making payment, they say they have not received the order at their end! And they insist on minimum order of Rs.500. Even if you order all the inks, it does't exceed Rs.200. I have written to them several times- I wrote to them even on 4th October. They do not respond. There seems to be something rotten at their end. Somebody is sleeping there. They say the dog's tail cannot be straightened.
Now, I suggest that you try Camlin ink- it is also good. Kokuyo is a big Japanese name, and they would not put their name on a substandard product. It is easily available in most places. Daytone inks are available online- from Amazon and Flipkart. But there we have to get all the 15 colours- costing Rs.400-430. When I was in Delhi, I could not get Camlin or Bril. I had to be satisfied with Quink.
Bril ink comes in bottles. If it comes in plastic containers, I would have gladly sent you some by courier!

@@nanjappa42 That's so nice of you brother🙏. I really appreciate that. And yes, along with quink, I am also using Camlin. You are absolutely right. As a last chance I will try to talk to local shops if they can arrange bril from any place :)

Vermaji, I have since found that you can order Bril ink online at www.penhouse.in. Their price is fair, and they send by courier. 4 colors are available on their site. They have their own brand also-simply named 'penhouse.in'. Courier charges to Punjab would be higher, but the ink is available there!

Nice. The Bril blue ink is better than parker quink blue and definitely better than camlin. And the best part about Bril is they give ypu a lot of colour options in inks.

Thankyou for the detailed comparison. I remember writing with Bril ink in my childhood and being so pleasantly surprised with it that I shared the ink with a few classmates in their pens too. Bril isnt available in my town and I don't want to spend 500+ Rupees ordering it online. Bril must work on supply chain a little bit. They have a superior product.

After Kokuyo took over Camlin they changed the ink formulation. It is now of a lighter shade, but with more shade variation. Still, the Bril is better.

Check if there is any slime formation, layering or sedimentation. Hold to light and check for glanularity... If none of these.. Go ahead. As ling as it was stored in a cool dark environment there should be no issues.
