自衛艦旗の重い位置付け／ "The Rising Sun Flag" of Japanese Navy is not just a flag

- The Rising Sun Flag of Japan Maritime Self-defense Force (JMSDF) ,or Japanese Navy, is very popular with its simple and cool design.
However its not just a flag. It is a flag with the same status as the national flag of Japan, showing the national sovereignty at sea.
I edited this video on purpose to explain the flag salute manners shown at last military review in 2016.
You can realize that only Hinomaru (the National Flag of Japan) and Naval Ensign (the Rising Sun Flag) has been saluted by the Supreme Executives' Flags (Prime Minister's Flag, Defense Minister's Flag, Vice Defense Minister's Flag, and Flags of four Chiefs of Staff) during the parade.

自衛艦旗は旭日旗とも呼ばれ、そのシンプルかつクールなデザインで人気がありますが、実はただの旗ではありません。国旗に準じて扱われることとされており、自衛艦の艦尾旗竿に掲げられることで、洋上における我が国の主権を顕示しているのです。
この動画は、2016年（平成28年）に行われた自衛隊観閲式における旗の敬礼の作法について説明することを目的に編集したものです。観閲行進中、観閲台の前を多くの部隊が行進しますが、この間、観閲台の前に並んだ７本の最高幹部旗（内閣総理大臣旗、防衛大臣旗、防衛副大臣旗、と４幕僚長旗）の敬礼を受けるのは、日の丸（国旗）と自衛艦旗（旭日旗）だけであることがお判りいただけると思います。

I don't like people calling the Rising sun flag as something bad, yes it is used during WWII, but that doesn't mean it has any bad meaning at all. I think the flag is a good symbol and majestic.

自分が自衛隊に居った頃、３年目の士長に成りたてで駐屯地警衛に勤務した時に国旗掲揚の旗衛隊に選ばれて、国旗掲揚の為に司令部へ国旗を受け取りに行ったときに畳まれた国旗を自分が持って歩いていたら、周りの者は立ち止まり国旗に対して敬礼をしていました❗勿論自分では無く国旗に対してやから、国旗の崇高さをこの身で感じましたね。
鶴田英文様＞三角に綺麗に畳まれた国旗ですね、国旗掲揚・国旗降下時に、国旗が見える位置の場合は敬礼、見えない位置の場合は『不動の姿勢』でしたよね？、確かｗ。

畳むときには三角形ですが、赤い部分が見えないようにしないとダメなんですよね
ちなみに僕が所属してた基地には、陸海空が全部いましたから、旗衛隊は各一名ずつの三名でした。
前に海自、真ん中が日の丸を掲げた陸自、後に空自、と並んで掲揚台まで行っていたと思います

I'm proud of the Imperial Navy which fought against European colonialism that had long plagued Asian nations then.
I feel a kind of anger when I hear the voices of certain people claiming Japan had invaded Asian nations.
They pretend to be victorious nations against Japan after the war, despite not contributing to the liberation of Asia at all.
Only the people long colonized by Europeans and the Japanese people fought desperately.
It is timid and pathetic to seek only profit without fighting.
I believe that we Japanese should strengthen ties with those countries which then fought together with Japan, not with cowards.

We, Indonesian people owed so much to Japanese people, Armed Forces and especially the Imperial Navy, who had been fighting bravely and patrioticly in eliminating western domination in Asia and liberating Indonesia from the Dutch colonials. In a heavy fighting between the Japanese fleet against the Allied Combined Naval Forces, consist of America, British, Dutch and Australia, the Allied fleet suffered a heavy casualties including a Dutch Admiral Karel Doorman was killed. The legendary battle was known as " Battle of the Java Sea ". During the Japanese occupation of 3,5 years, they were contributing in in consolidating and recruiting Indonesian youth in military skills. Many armed units were formed such as Heiho, Peta, Seinendan and keibodan. The Japanese government ended after the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and Indonesia seized their independence from the Dutch colonialist who had been robbing and stealing our natural resources for 350 years. Once again, thank you our Japanese brother. You are our liberator.

国旗(日の丸)と、自衛艦旗(旭日旗)が通過する際には、観閲台前の内閣総理大臣旗以下の最高幹部旗、観閲台に向かって右側にいる東部方面総監（観閲式執行者）旗は勿論、音楽隊の隊長(指揮者)までが挙手の敬礼をやっており、（観閲部隊の中で）敬礼していないのは演奏中の音楽隊員だけであること。
国旗と自衛艦旗は同列なんです。ですから、今回の某国が喚き散らしてる観艦式には自衛艦旗を掲げるなってのは論外、お話にもならないんです。国際法上から見ても、ね。
この画像のアングルだと確認できませんが、少なくとも24年前のビデオ映像を見る限りは、外国駐在武官も一斉に起立、敬礼してましたね。

Rising sun design means Amaterasu-goddess who was anscestor of Japanese emperor.
Amaterasu was symbol of the sun. So where ever you go in Japan you can see the design.
Especially when fisherman got big catches of fish, they put up big rising sun designed fish flag on a ship on the way to return to the port.

行進ピッタリ揃って格好いいですね。
You can see how the British military has influenced the Japanese military over the years, especially in terms of the Navy. Those great arm sweeps while marching are very British. I think this flourish while marching is more admirable then the goose step.
Victor Lepanto, Over a century ago, the Royal Navy was a good mentor of the imperial Navy, which was just founded. And the JMSDF has inherited many valuable heritage from the Imperial Navy. They are quite wide ranging from salute to spiritual attitude. That is to say, JMSDF inherits the Royal Navy in a sense.
One of them is the saying "Those who do not understand wit are not Naval officers at all".
5th July 2000, the overseas training force of JMSDF was in port NY. They joined the Fleet review held the previous day. Then QE2 came in and slightly collided the flag ship of the MSDF despatched fleet. When the captain of QE2 visited the flag ship to apologize, the fleet commander replied, "It's great honor to be kissed by Queen Elizabeth".
I suppose the story was kind of a appreciation from Japanese Navy to the UK who taught them the importance of wit.

イギリス及びイギリス海軍には感謝しております。大日本帝国海軍が発足したばかりの頃は作法等何も知らない極東アジアに対して色々ご指導いただきましたし、当時の日本には軍艦を建造することができなかったため、イギリスで日本海軍用艦艇を建造してくださったことに深く感謝しております。イギリスのご助力がなければ今の海上自衛隊は無かったと思います。大東亜戦争では敵対関係になってしまったのはとても残念ではありますが、当時の情勢がそのようにしてしまったのかもしれません。今後日英関係が崩れないことを祈りたいです。かしまの件は偶発的な事故なので仕方ないです。当時のかしま艦長もその事をわかっていたのであのような回答になったのかもしれません。

JMSDF Training Squadron visited Mazatlan last year, and further deepened it. Yukari Miyake, whose video I uploaded many times in this channel, also joined the Squadron and sang "Besame mucho" in the concert held at Angela Peralta Theater. I was deeply moved to see in a video the enthusiastic Mexican audience then.
