You have been gifted by God to be a great teacher. A great teacher to us moms who may not have the same ability, but can learn better from your explanations and teaching.
I’m a new homeschooling Mom, former public school band director. Thank you for sharing this in such a practical manner. I appreciate your channel very much.
I just recently discovered your videos, and this one with all the definitions is absolutely the one I needed right now. Thank you for compiling this - I'm already anticipating volume 2!
Autumn, the comment you made distinguishing between the people who do and don't believe CM and classical mix was so helpful! This was one of the points of ambiguity I've been noticing in my early look into homeschooling philosophies. I can see how indeed classical CM is, and that has me bought in more for sure.
Ah, yes. It’s a *thing* for people to draw the line between the two. I don’t understand it! (Well, actually, I think it usually means they have a very narrow definition of classical education that’s probably neo-classical. And Mason is not neo-classical. I have a whole podcast about that!) I find a lot of joy and comfort in finding her connections to the classical tradition! I’d be wary of following one fallible woman! But seeing her carry on principles from a long-standing tradition gives me great confidence.
I'm currently reading Karen Glass' book "Consider This: Charlotte Mason and the Classical Tradition" -- and it clears up a LOT of this aspect that I was unclear about, as well! Do look into it. I think Autumn has mentioned Karen Glass before (as a founder of Ambleside).
Okay wow. I know I could have googled this forever ago but I had no idea what Plutarch wrote about or why everyone requires him along with Shakespeare, etc. But now I'm so excited, ha!
Wow! I just discovered your channel last night and I've already scarfed down several videos! I appreciate your content and I am excited to learn from you and learn from your recommendations!
This video is wonderful! I too fully subscribe to the fact that CM is part of classical tradition. Have you read Andrew Kern's article on his analysis of why CM is indeed classical? It's concise and definitive. Also, could you share where your shirt is from? It's so cute! Thank you!
I haven't caught that Andrew Kern article but I love learning from him! I'll definitely be looking it up. (And there's so much Mason throughout the CiRCE resources generally!) The shirt is an old one from Loft, I think? We're talking circa 2015 or 2016.
Thank you, this was so helpful! Do you have any advice on choosing a Plutarch translation? Or any favorite "Lives" to begin with? Your vidoes and podcast have been such a help and encouragement to me!
Hi Autum, do you have any good books or resources that speak more to the idea of Paideia? This is fascinating, and I would love to delve more into it, especially as we build out our home catechesis.
I think The Liberal Arts Tradition by Jain and Clarke would be a great read to see how paideia looks in educational actions. For a deeper dive into the connection between paideia and education, I recommend this: circeinstitute.org/product/christian-paideia-a-study-in-harmony/
I like the collections from Riverbend Press and/or Sir Thomas North. Plutarch was a clear writer so he's not as hard to follow as some of the other old guys!

Rebecca, thank you for this encouragement. 🤍

I loved your side-note about Dads haha 😄
We had a whole discussion in Patreon about this! Dads are really good at it!

You'll love him!
Very helpful video, thank you. ❤

This was so helpful. Thank you for clarifying the terms!
You’re so welcome!
So informative and helpful! Thank you!
You’re so welcome, Elli!
Ha! This is great, thank you!
You're very welcome! I couldn't find a Mason dictionary on UA-cam and hoped it would be helpful!

I like Sir Thomas North's translations! As for starting, maybe Timoleon?

Oh! And Norms and Nobility by David Hicks!
Please can you recommend a Plutarch lives book that’s accessible to someone who hasn’t read him before (both an adult and younger child)? Many thanks
