- The Boya MM1 and Movo VXR 10 have been popular, relatively inexpensive video microphones, and they have recently gotten new, upgraded versions in the form of the MM1 + and the VXR 10 Pro. In this video I test out the MM1+ to see how it does.
Nice review! I'm looking forward to the YesWelder 205DS review 😀
Thanks. Hoping to get to it soon.
Fantastic review. I'm interested in this mic to use it to record exhaust noise (very windy environment). You mentioned the clipping issue with wind noise. I'll be plugging it into a Tacam DR-05X recorder (which does have a low cut filter). Does the issue go away completely or is the mic still clipping slightly?
I assume the wind noise will come from the fact that you are driving while recording the exhaust sounds? I thing you would be better off trying to shield the mic from the wind as much as possible. Maybe you could make or come up with something to go in front of the mic and deflect the wind away from the front.
A low cut filter will help reduce wind noise, but it won't remove it completely and if you cut the lows out too much, you might lose some of the exhaust rumble you are trying to capture.
@@bigtb1717 Yes, of course shielding the mic is a must. I plan on sticking it to either the bumper or the tailgate, whatever spot will have less turbulent air. Maybe the dead cat will be enough if I find a good enough spot.
The DR-05X has a couple of settings for the low cut. I wonder if a 40Hz cut will be enough to stop it from clipping while still retaining most of the low end
I don't think the clipping will be a problem if you are able to block the majority of the wind.
Please reply brother please...!
Can I use it to record vocals in bandlab mobile while playing beat in head phone at the same time..? ( The headphone will be connected to the boya mm1+ mic's audio output port which shows this sign 🎧)
I decided to go for something more substantial for the new year. Got myself a Comica VM-20. Can’t wait to open it for Christmas!
Cool. Looks like the VM-20 is Comica's version of the Rode Videomic NTG or the Deity V-Mic D3. I'm interested in how it works. Where about are you located?
@@bigtb1717 I’m in the middle of Oklahoma. I was originally going to wait and get the Comica TraxShot, but I can’t find it anywhere anymore. It’s a little stereo mic that reminds me of the setup on dedicated recording devices. Looks pretty awesome. Since I couldn’t find that I went with the VM20 instead. From everything I’ve seen/heard, it is an appropriate upgrade for me. Especially looking forward to the built-in rechargeable battery and gain adjustment. I’m a Comica fan, ever since I got the VM-10II. I actually got my son a VM10II kit for Christmas this year, haha.
Okay. I was thinking a detailed comparison between the VM-20 and the Rode VideoMic NTG would be fun. You have the VM-20 and I have a VM NTG. Could have made a fun collaboration. But I'm nowhere near Oklahoma.
Any one using this mic with the black magic camera app? What are you all setting your gain input to ? Do you end up turning it down and boosting in post ?
Merry Christmas man!!!!!!!!!!!!
Merry Christmas!
@@bigtb1717 I have a question.... What happened with the olympus video?
@@jdv_237 I made a mistake born of inexperience with Premiere Pro. I decided to switch the video to unlisted and re-do it rather than have potentially misleading info left up. Hopefully in the next few days I'll be re-doing and re-uploading the video.
@@jdv_237 I have a community post about it and I'll explain exactly what I got wrong in the corrected video.
Hey what did you think it's improve in a old boya version?
Thanks man nice review
Does the headphone jack allow you to hear playback simultaneously while live-streaming in Zoom with a smartphone?
The headphone jack passes through audio from the smartphone. So I believe it will do what you are asking. Basically, if you are plugged into the combined headphone and mic jack on a phone with a TRRS cable, the headphone port on the microphone allows you to still connect headphones to hear audio from the phone. It does not provide audio monitoring from the microphone. But you probably wouldn't want to hear your own audio in a Zoom call anyway.
Does the original mm1 connect straight in to a smart phone? Or do you need the trrrs connector?
The original MM1 came with both a TRS cable for cameras and a TRRS cable for smartphones.
@@bigtb1717 Thanks
Hi is need charge battery 🔋... I have one but stop working??
No battery to charge. Do you have another cable you can try?
@@bigtb1717
I will tray ... It is not working 2 cable ...
Thank you...😭😭😭😭
Can I simultaneously record the audio to my zoom h1n and monitor the audio from the zoom h1n headphone output?
I believe the Zoom H1n does allow live monitoring of the audio from a connected microphone, but I can't say for sure. I haven't used an H1n.
Can I use this with my laptop for zoom calls?
Your laptop would have to have an analogue microphone input, and then you would be reliant on the mic pre-amp of your laptop since this microphone isn't powered. You may be better off getting an inexpensive USB microphone.
With BY-MM1(not plus), Samsung USB-C to 3.5 adapter, Meizu HIFI DAC were good.
