- Caveman was nice enough to share his packing strategies and what really matters when traveling full time with all of your belongings on your back and in your hands.
Hope this helps people who might be looking at backpacking videos and are needing another extreme perspective.

I could think of a few improvements that would primarily focus on quality of life/less strain. Number one would be an external pack frame with nice wide hip belts and shoulder straps.
Second would be rolling your bedroll up inside the tarp, and keeping it all outside the pack. If rolled inside the tarp, it will stay waterproof. Much like a cowboys or bikers saddle roll.
I can sense another depression on it's way in the US, and have known of it's coming for awhile now. I told my family 3 years ago something drastically different would hit in 2020, and it did. I've been slowly preparing for a nomadic life ever since college, 10 years ago, and every day that goes by, that possibility looks closer and closer to a reality
My father hobo-ed around during the great depression. We may be headed for another. I better start getting my pack together. Thanks for all the great info and "Smooth Sailing" to the caveman.

As a hobo, you get more freedom than most highly educated people. Also, non educated people can and at time smarter and have higher IQ than educated people. It does not mean that the government and your parents keep saying that you need a university degree, which you will have to pay the rest of your life; that they are right. You live your life. But if you do have an higher education and a job, then congratulations. You are technically a slave to the cultural norm.
