There's no way in blue hell the weight requirement is down to the exact KG as any human let alone an athletes weight can vary 1-3kg sometimes more, due to a multitude of factors. He much more likely gives a required range. Say 75-79kg. If you're over that uper limit then you don't play which is fair and will be supported by sports science. To the KG wouldn't make rational sense.
Athletes weight is calculated based on a comparison between Ideal Body Weight and Ideal Body Mass to give a Kg/m2 measurement. Usually for normal people a fluctuation of +/- 10% their ideal body weight isn’t an issue. An athlete will have a very strict limits of less than 2% (sometimes less than 1% depending on size) which is why almost everything they take in to or put out of their bodies is measured in minute detail at the training facilities and clubs. You are correct to assume there is not a fixed weight limit in football like there is in combat sports. There’s no requirement to be between 70-80kg to play in midfield, for example, however there is an absolute limit set for each individual athlete biologically that is scientifically their peak level of physical performance and conditioning. It’s really easy to see when someone is even half a percent off the others at a top level training programme like City have because that half a percent is _enormous_ in context.

This guy never ceases to amaze me. But I get it, though. He's never won anything in his career, so he doesn't know what it takes to be a winner and stay at the top throughout a career. Few have got the mentality, discipline, and dedication to become legends. If it was easy, everyone would do it. I can't imagine how Agbonlahor would react to a Fergie's hairdryer treatment.
Pep didn't overly criticize him...merely stated he was overweight and not fit for selection. Kelvin is a professional in the top flight and should be in tip top shape.
If you earn millions a year for doing one job, being fit to train and play football for your club, then he should get every bit of honest criticism he gets. Or he can give back has millions. You can’t have both
I remember Gabby coming on against Arsenal once and he looked huge. Probably why he has such an issue with this as he couldn't keep himself fit either.
The biggest issue is not Kalvin’s lack of professionalism in showing up overweight. It’s the fact that he was signed as a back up to Rodri and is not elite level quality…
Pep is upholding his high standards, Philips had a week off after England and camber back overweight, I assume it's less than 2kg maybe even less than 1kg. Aguero was dropped for a big game because he was 1kg overweight
Phillips is on 5-6 figure weekly wage and being publicly outed is the last of his worries if he can't do something as simple as stay around his target weight. Also this says something about Englands travelling team if players are going to world cup, not playing and coming back too heavy? What was he doing? Donuts on the bench?
Guy who was overweight during the latter years of his career calls out manager for calling out his player who is overweight. Go to trauma therapy Gabby ya pudding 😂
Don't know why he went there not to play. Regular for Leeds and England don't make sense. Bit like Chelsea with mourinho buy players just so they won't go to rivals
This isn't news its a motivational kick up the backside for kalvin! Talksport should be talking about how shocking Darwin Nunez is since joining Liverpool 😄
Florentino Perez also said when Hazard arrived , he was over weight , he turned up exactly so i think players should be on tip top shape to perform because of the responsiblity they carry
He should get stick, he is paid a ridiculous amount of money to be a professional athlete, if he’s blown up and treated the World Cup as lads on tour, why should pep protect him? Because he didn’t shame him, he didn’t use derogatory language. He refused there to be blowback on him and said he came back overweight. If the term overweight is offensive to someone they need to toughen up. Again his job middle of the season is to stay in shape and he’s stealing money from the team if he’s out of it mid season. If a teacher turned up to class with no lesson plan, hadn’t marked homework there would be uproar. This is Philips’ job and he’s not lived up to one of the main responsibilities of the job. This talk of protecting players is BS. This is not about protecting players, this is about a player not doing his job and the manager refusing to cover for him. How about accountability.
Pep watched the WC Final thinking City winning 4 trophies might be out of his control, but what's within his control, Pep will deal with with no hesitation
Pep is clearly pissed, there's no excuse for Phillips, if he is overweight and not in training condition that is utterly embarrassing, this is the middle of the season, he got his break after the world cup and now he's coming back to the team that pays his salary like he just got back from summer break, lmaoo he didn't even win the thing, lack of professionalism
I'm sure his sky high wages more than comfort him if he's overweight he's been unprofessional deal with it while the rest of Brirain worries about our electricity bills
Phillips doesn't deserve protection. He was at the WC meant to be getting fitter and instead in came back not ready to play for his club. Unprofessional behavior should be called out for what it is.
Maybe being outed and getting all the flak that comes with it will force Phillips to take his weight targets a bit more seriously in future. Flabby Gabby predictably standing up for Phillips, saying it should have been dealt with privately, but how does he know that this has happened before?

It actually is looked at by the pound. For every pound hazard was over which was about 13 0r 14 lbs he was fined
Nobodys weight fluctuates by 7 pounds.
Professional athletes weights don't fluctuate between one and three kgs during the active season, lmao.
This is 2022 bud. Wake up
No its a billiondollar company they mesure fat levels and everything before break,he woud have known he's responsibility to stay fit so he can litterly do he's job that he gets paid millions for, kalvin deserves a little bashing as i find he's lack of any motivation disturbing considering he has been injured all season comes back leave whit nationalteam and comes back fat unhealthy lazy
It’s clearly a dig at the England camp and the way they let the players maintain themselves rather than Phillips himself 🤷♂️
This is hilarious. If klopp said the same thing they'd be saying what a great manager he is and how well he man manages his team. Pep knows what he's doing. I think gabby was reminded about his own weight when he was a player and how he was criticized
Klopp will not call out his player publicly. He is more sensitive and sensible than that.
Klopp would never call a player out publicly. This is why he says stuff about the wind or grass being too long. Because players have screwed up, need a bollocking but he’ll do it in private rather than embarrass them in the media.
@@frasierfreak92 So you are calling Klopp a LIAR?
And you 'd prefer a LIE?
Some people do have values, you know and the most fundamental of all values is to be HONEST. Your parents did not teach you that?
Jurgen is very tactful, which is curious as Germans aren't stereotypically known for that.
I wonder why notoiously unprofessional agbonlahor would have any issue with this? hmmmm
Gabby Agbonlahor your a joke pundit
Why shouldn’t Philips be criticised when he’s a professional footballer paid vast amounts of money
Its not just the issue of "calling him out" surely when you are on international duty the team are getting the best of everything and training everyday.. so why were the coaching staff not monitoring him...
Gabby is so unintentionally funny 🤣🤣🤣
" fat shaming "
No wonder why its not coming home.
Mourinho said the same thing about shaw and look at him now
The oxford dictionary definition of what Pep mean is that he's not good enough 😁
The 4 professional managers at the moment are ETH, Arteta, Potter and Eddie Howe
Perhaps pep didn’t want to protect him 👍
And that’s why you were a bang average footballer gabby
Gabby 'all his life been overweight' Agbonlahor is the only one who'll slam pep🙏
If Pep said this about a foreign player they'd be praising Guardiola for his honesty, and bashing the overweight player.
English media is the worst .they talk bad about every body but themselves .look at how they bad mouth qatar .and qatar still host a great world cup .
Does anyone remember Jan Molby playing for Liverpool? Or John Robertson for Forest?
Pep is upholding his high standards, Philips had a week off after England and camber back overweight, I assume it's less than 2kg maybe even less than 1kg. Aguero was dropped for a big game because he was 1kg overweight
Agueros target weight was 80kgs and he weighed in at 100kgs, even aguero in a recent interview said that pep was right to drop him
Phillips is on 5-6 figure weekly wage and being publicly outed is the last of his worries if he can't do something as simple as stay around his target weight.
Also this says something about Englands travelling team if players are going to world cup, not playing and coming back too heavy? What was he doing? Donuts on the bench?
It’s almost as if the World Cup isn’t as intense as club football and he was coming back from injury
It's Philips fault he needs to look after himself better. What's pep supposed to say
Guy who was overweight during the latter years of his career calls out manager for calling out his player who is overweight. Go to trauma therapy Gabby ya pudding 😂
Gab really is a pudding isn’t he? A pudding probably has more brain cells though
It’s literally his job to stay in shape and weight range. Your paying your asset £150k a week for a reason.
Very unprofessional. He’s not a pregnant lady. He’s a pro athlete. He should get fined for this. I would have preferred bissouma tbh.
Being overweight as a footballer doesn’t mean you’re being fat shamed 😂
Don't know why he went there not to play. Regular for Leeds and England don't make sense. Bit like Chelsea with mourinho buy players just so they won't go to rivals
Everytime I hear someone say "i feel" i hear Chris saying merch
Worst person to comment on this Gabby was always overweight and a bad professional
Can't even tell a player he's overweight?
Tell him, not the world.
This isn't news its a motivational kick up the backside for kalvin! Talksport should be talking about how shocking Darwin Nunez is since joining Liverpool 😄
Florentino Perez also said when Hazard arrived , he was over weight , he turned up exactly
so i think players should be on tip top shape to perform because of the responsiblity they carry
Pep doesn't care about your feelings.
Phillips isn't good enough, pep being nice calling him fat
Gabby feels attacked right now 🤣
Hes a joke .thats why he never won anything in hes career
I listened to the first 40 seconds of that, more than enough for me.
Gabby said if he he was in Pep's squad... Gab was a good player but he wouldn't be anywhere near a Pep squad
Pep and Gabby are both greats of the game. Why do fans always have to pick sides???
Gabby a great ??? Was this sarcasm
@@mccleandazza4618
What do you think 🤔
Lmao
Is gabby like the spokesman for all the footballers?
Genius Agbonlahor as always.
Pep watched the WC Final thinking City winning 4 trophies might be out of his control, but what's within his control, Pep will deal with with no hesitation
I hope Kelvin is not sitting around at home lol get on the treadmill
It ain't easy
Apparently he took his pants to the cleaners and they said they don’t do curtains
