It's funny but most people not familar with the films think it's just the same old thing like Halloween, Friday the 13th and TCM went on to become later on but after the first film, the Saw films are one long continious film, where they are on the trail for Jigsaw, they all begin where the last film concluded so if you're watching them in order, it feels like you're watching a very long cat and mouse game between Jigsaw and the cops trying to stop him and save the victims. I love the series but I wasn't the biggest fan of the final chapter but it was a cool ending. Can't wait to see this one though. Great review Cecil!
Thanks for doing this review while you were sick. You are a soldier. The Saw franchise has made nearly 900 million off of a combined budget of 64 million, from the past seven films, not including Jigsaw. Tobin Bell is worth 16 million. While that is a lot of money, he should be worth much more than that. The Saw franchise only worked because of Tobin Bell. Even when they killed him off, they had to bring him back in flashbacks. The first three made the most money, and those were the three in which he was still alive. The fans of the franchise were there to see the traps, but Tobin Bell's John Kramer was the real draw. He should have at least received 5% of the profits. That's a mere 41.8 million, and the studio would have still cleared nearly 800 million in profits. I hope Mr. Bell fired his agent.
I'll still watch it as I love the death scenes in these movies. Love your Horror sequel bingo BTW ha ha class....Jigsaw in Space has to be the next installment lol
Lucas Bradley Little Shop is a horror comedy classic for sure, and if you like horror musicals you could check out Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and a real campy film called Stage Fright. But as far as I know, there's no horror franchise that morphed into a musical. But Robot Chicken might have a satisfactory sketch with Jason Voorhees dancing and singing... Don't quote me on that though... It just sounds right.
Hey Cecil, would it be advisable to rewatch the previous Saw films before watching Jigsaw? I haven't seen the whole series in a while and don't want to be confused on any plot points in the new one.
Jigsaw turns 5 today! At the time it was crazy it took them 7 years to make another Saw movie It delivers all the cool stuff fans have come to expect from the elaborate traps to the gore and the clever story twists (3 of them I didn't anticipate) There's also familiar music cues and traps for Saw enthusiasts will recognize This isn't a fantastic movie and it's very short plus the violence seems tame compared to previous entries The acting is passable otherwise this would be a straight-to-TV feature Yet it makes up for the bad taste Saw 7 in 3D left in peoples mouths feeling they didn't wrap everything up in a tight bow The Spierig Brothers offer a new take on the material rather than the usual stuff we are used to
Saw 3D has 4 notches on horror franchise bingo “3D, Final Chapter, Character Returns, and Hero Back from the Dead (it wasn’t directly stated but everyone kind of assumed The Dread Pirate Roberts kicked it in Saw I)”
I think it's crazy for a fan who can appreciate the movies for what they are and not misconstrue them like non-fans have, yet still say something as irrational as Jigsaw being the weakest film. I think it's fair to say it surpasses the mess that The Final Chapter crammed into one "last" installment after being forced to by Lionsgate. Jigsaw is surely an unnecessary film, but then again, so are a fair few of the sequels. It's entertaining to say the least, and I think the final trap we see with the shotgun was a perfect honoring to the original saw, and confirmed one of the demises that we never got to see officially confirmed for any of the victims that suffered in this way, and was wrapped up rather nicely, albeit highly conveniently, and was entertaining and faithful for the most part.
Would unironically rather have had Saw X honestly, do some big ass death trials on an old spaceship from an AI created from John Kramer or something, whatever puts asses in seats.
Watched it earlier today, and now I’ve slept on it, I can see of the issues with the traps. Saw traps normal have a personal reason to them and this one is missing some. I’m a huge fan of the series and loved the ending and can see how it may start a new run of films, but the traps need to be more meaningful. Even if the victim doesn’t live to see it.
I saw (lol) all of them thus far so i'll give it a spin regardless. I remember on the last one being asked by someone who watched it "Do you think it's over?" I told the woman "I don't think so because the one guy at the last one took over". So well......CALLED IT!.....called it? not sure if he's responsible in JIGSAW. Lol.
I haven't seen this flick but I can't imagine that it's of a lesser quality than SAW IV-3D). Saw 3D was bad but entertaining, Saw VI was actually pretty good but still a little cheesy and entertaining. Saw IV was ok and part V was pretty bad overall. Me thinks this is probably the best entry after the first 3, I shall find out when I see it. I dig these flicks, hope they come up with something of a great idea and make another one, hopefully taking the series in a completely different yet familiar direction.
Saw: gratitude Saw II: patience Saw III: forgiveness Saw IV: selflessness Saw V: cooperation Saw VI: judgement Saw VII: survival Jigsaw: cash grab. You could say "confession" or "honesty", but the story was just a means to get a cop murdered in revenge. The police side-stories in the previous movies at least tried to mantain the theme on display while pushing forward the narrative. Here everything is going on its own path and by the time they try to tie it all together every sense of logic or purpose is thrown out the window. It almost retconned the series and offered nothing better in its place to justify it.
This film has either a plot hole, a plot convenience, a plot coincidence, or mistakes in EVERY single scene! No doubt the worst Saw film in the franchise. Thank god they are not doing a sequel to this mess of a film. Many parts of the film (including twists) is either copied or rehashed taken from Saw II, Saw IV and Saw V - No freshness or anything new. Awful writing - 2/10.
Major movie studios effectively do this. There should be movie about a 'Cash Cow' a simple premise that could use great acting and practical effects: a poor farmer comes across a seemingly normal cow, but when he discovers it produces milk laced with crack, he is a millionaire overnight. The town can't get enough, the farmer is hooked and everyone else scrambled to find their own 'cash cow''. Until that fateful day during within the town's festivity, the farmer pulls too hard and furious on the cows udder, the bovine literally deflates like a balloon, in front of the horrified onlookers. he goes back to being poor, and is in intense rehab to kick his drug dependency. sequals -Cash Cow II: milking the cow -Cash Cow III the golden goose -Cash Cow IV: beat the dead horse -Cash Cow V: useless tits on a bull
what they need to do is have a Jigsaw Jr. , a young lad that idolizes Jigsaw and punishes bullys and other bad kids with his own little puzzles, using abandoned buildings and stuff, then at the end it is revealed that his father is a Jigsaw cultist and was helping him do these things to the kids. i know that's a bit extreme for some, but i could see it happening had John not lost his child during pregnancy and raised the kid, since they showed in the series that John already had an unstable mentality about him.
No this is much better than 3D. 3D had some fun moments but came across as what it was-a rushed finale. It was supposed to be two films but because VI underperformed Lionsgate crammed it all into one film and you can tell. Jigsaw was back to the basics of the franchise was a fun popcorn flick.
Who needs Jigsaw as the master of deadly traps when we have Yami Yugi from the original Yugioh manga, before the card game. That guy came up with some pretty interesting games and not only did he make them, he participated in them.
This movie does ask a lot of you in respect to suspension of disbelief but I so appreciated the pay off. I readily admit I was just hoping for it to be better than Saw 3D and delve more into John Kramer's story. No spoilers.
They should combine Saw and Cube. That would be one hell of a game. Heck, throw in Pinhead and you've got yourself one hell of a party! ;) On second thought, that kind of reminds me of Cabin in the Woods. Whatever. As long as it's fun, I'd watch it! :P
Cube is one of my all favorite films of all time!! It is another one that gets labeled as torture porn, even though only 2 people get killed by traps. The rest get killed by other humans in the cube.
Gore isn’t a prerequisite for something to be torture porn - some of the most painful things are not full of blood and guts, but make you cringe because you can imagine how horrific they feel. Some of the worst torture porn I’ve seen has been mostly bloodless 😳
In my own ranking I put it up with the better to middle ones, round same level as 5 or 6, way better than 4 so definetly not the worst of the Franchise
I do like Jigsaw but it lacks the question of what I'm asking like is Adam alive, Is Dr. Gordan is still Jigsaw, and is David Hoffman actually dead. I accept it as it is but I found this sequal to be unnecessary but still enjoyable
Thought it was a stupidly fun film that you can turn your brain off to watch. Although, can't say that the 'twist' was all too surprising, and realised what was going to happen (except with Cramer - I was hoping for something much more interesting than what they went with) at least ten-fifteen minutes in. I do wonder if the next film in the series will be Saw 9, or Jigsaw 2 though. Is this meant to be a soft reboot?
The original Saw is one of the best horror movies ever, it is NOT torture porn, 2-8 IS torture porn, yes, 2 and 3 ARE torture porn. and each one took it even further down that genre dead end road.
Saw the original at an early screening way back when, thought it was an over-hyped piece of shit that would never take off, as did most everyone else in the audience... little did we know. I don't understand why so many fans hate the term "torture porn". Nobody cares about the story, we're all there for the exploitation and that is exactly what "porn" is. If the franchise (and it's fan base) embraced that instead of desperately shoe horning in a convoluted plot with a twist that makes fuck all sense, I think this series would have been much more enjoyable.
Good review! Been watching your channel for a year and a half now. And I’m a huge fan of the series, and when reviews were coming out, the one review ik I could take into account more than the others was yours. I-IV I’d say are great for me, and V is where it has problems but I still enjoy it. VI and 3D are the bottom for me.
What they needed to do for this to be soft reboot (because it tried to be one) is make it more basic like 1st one was. In first movie, Jigsaw actually sounded like a serial killer, and yet by the part 7, he rhymes and almost writes a poetry. That always annoyed the hell out of me. Same for traps, in first movie they were kinda simple and somewhat believable, but till part 7 they became way way to complicated and "cool".
It's always interesting to see different reviewers on UA-cam! E.g. while YMS tends to be highly critical and GBF rather soft, it felt like YMS gave a sloghtly more favorable review for this one! :D
Wow I completely disagree. I thought it was an excellent soft reboot that was directed well, felt like the first Saw, had excellent SFX, and introduced characters I actually liked and want to see in sequels. The twist was the same as the last 6 movies in a row, but that was the only thing I found disappointing. Normally I totally agree with Cecil on here, but I gotta implore fans to go see this because I think a sequel called Jigsaw 2 would be fantastic and so would a lot of fans I bet
I'm not Ice Cube. Didn't that franchise came full circle though? Can they make another one? Dumb question. Of course they can if they think it will make money.
Just have Jigsaw get cryogenically frozen then 455 years later students unfreeze him and take him into space. Then have the technology turn him into Super Jigsaw. Trust me, it'll be better than the real Saw X.
Personally I enjoyed Saw 2 and 4 the most but 4 could be because I caught it with my gf at the time right as it was leaving theatres and we both have not seen 3 and well she had seen none of them. Years later I still like 4 but after 4 I didn't really like them that much anymore.
Yea I’ve always really loved saw so I had to check this out and I was very much pleased. One day I’ll have to do a full saw marathon because after 2 I only saw most of them once.
coming soon SAW X John Kramer in space, ah, Doug beat me to it. How about SAW H20 20 years later? perhaps a reality show? As the saw turns? whatever just keep beating the idea to death Hollywood
Next... yes... Jigsaw in a fancy underwater hotel off the coast of Dubai for rich tourists... 8 golden-ticket invited millionaire/billionaire tourists will be tested by Jigsaw while trapped in a claustrophobic masterpiece during the night before its grand opening to the public. With no way to escape, they must find a way to survive til the morning... trapped in a deep ocean death-grinder under the thumb of Jigsaw. Hmmm... SAW IX...
. i seen the hall saw films in one day i was more curious in the story the first time i watch the hall saw franchise i was paying more attention on jigsaw's story then what other people see if you watch it all from a different point of view like i did. it might explain more then just dead bodys or gore . jigsaw is not a bad guy or a good guy he hates stupid people like stealing things or any crime that people might do . he's basically death sort of and reason with the wrong with traps to make people to not do stupid decisions and change there souls into good people and jigsaw him self doesn't enjoy it but he does it because no one else can change a person to see what it might hurt to see what you really are or make a choose and dont stay calm and let a person's family die because a person that only cares for him self . sorry if this got morbid but thats how i see what jigsaw was trying to do in the movie saw franchise also jigsaws billy puppet back story : jigsaw was a clock maker and his wife she was having a baby but her baby was killed by a stupid person that slammed the door on her but jigsaw stop being a clock maker and started making traps to teach people a lesson for making stupid decisions but before he was planing this he made a small billy the puppet doll . the little doll is to represents jigsaw dead son but its a reflection on revenge for stupid people
I guess, I fit in the die hard saw fan category. I am one of those who sits back and enjoy this vigilante get back at people who kind of deserves to be tortured.
Sad to see how unnecessary jigsaw was. After 7 years i hoped they had a good enough idea to return to the series, but it was absolutely pointless and had the most predictable ending in the series.
Clearly the next one should be Saw in Space.
Doug Glassman no no no the next one is Saw takes the US and then saw goes to heaven and then saw goes to the earths core but called Saw XI
Jigsaw vs Freddy
LOL.....Jig-space-saw...
Jigsaw: Revelations
"Revelations" ...When you don't know what the hell else to call a movie.(I think I heard this from GBF)

Spoiler alert: it’ll be shot in Vancouver. ;)

Times Square converted into a giant death trap? The tickets would sell themselves!
I actually really liked it but I’m a huge saw fan and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who isn’t

Hollywood is never done, good review
1:01, when has there ever been in a musical horror sequel?
29AndreG I would like to know. 😐
I mean... Little Shop of Horrors was a musical horror remake.
Lucas Bradley Little Shop is a horror comedy classic for sure, and if you like horror musicals you could check out Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and a real campy film called Stage Fright. I would say yes. There is a lot that ties into this from previous films.
Thanks man. Keep up the good work!
I'm only on board with your jigsaw sequel idea, if we get Jigsaw: Back 2 tha Hood!
Jigsaw: 4-EVA
Jigsaw turns 5 today!
At the time it was crazy it took them 7 years to make another Saw movie
It delivers all the cool stuff fans have come to expect from the elaborate traps to the gore and the clever story twists (3 of them I didn't anticipate)
There's also familiar music cues and traps for Saw enthusiasts will recognize
This isn't a fantastic movie and it's very short plus the violence seems tame compared to previous entries
The acting is passable otherwise this would be a straight-to-TV feature
Yet it makes up for the bad taste Saw 7 in 3D left in peoples mouths feeling they didn't wrap everything up in a tight bow
The Spierig Brothers offer a new take on the material rather than the usual stuff we are used to
"...In Da Hood!" Hahaha! Shoutout to Leprechaun.
Saw 3D has 4 notches on horror franchise bingo “3D, Final Chapter, Character Returns, and Hero Back from the Dead (it wasn’t directly stated but everyone kind of assumed The Dread Pirate Roberts kicked it in Saw I)”
Will you ever do the cube franchise?
I think it's crazy for a fan who can appreciate the movies for what they are and not misconstrue them like non-fans have, yet still say something as irrational as Jigsaw being the weakest film. I think it's fair to say it surpasses the mess that The Final Chapter crammed into one "last" installment after being forced to by Lionsgate. Jigsaw is surely an unnecessary film, but then again, so are a fair few of the sequels. make a video on hellraiser movies.

Saw: gratitude
Saw II: patience
Saw III: forgiveness
Saw IV: selflessness
Saw V: cooperation
Saw VI: judgement
Saw VII: survival
Jigsaw: cash grab.
Ticket prices for the nearest theatre by me are only £2.50. I'll give it a go :)
AstraVex £2.50?! What cinema do you go to?
you can get them for 6.50 if you watch them without the imax and such
Almost all AMC's in San Diego
AstraVex 460 din(3.8 euros) costs ticket for the movie in serbia
This film has either a plot hole, a plot convenience, a plot coincidence, or mistakes in EVERY single scene! No doubt the worst Saw film in the franchise. Major movie studios effectively do this.
There should be movie about a 'Cash Cow'
a simple premise that could use great acting and practical effects:
a poor farmer comes across a seemingly normal cow, but when he discovers it produces milk laced with crack, he is a millionaire overnight.
The town can't get enough, the farmer is hooked and everyone else scrambled to find their own 'cash cow''.
Until that fateful day during within the town's festivity, the farmer pulls too hard and furious on the cows udder, the bovine literally deflates like a balloon, in front of the horrified onlookers.
he goes back to being poor, and is in intense rehab to kick his drug dependency.
sequals
-Cash Cow II: milking the cow
-Cash Cow III the golden goose
-Cash Cow IV: beat the dead horse
-Cash Cow V: useless tits on a bull
what they need to do is have a Jigsaw Jr. , a young lad that idolizes Jigsaw and punishes bullys and other bad kids with his own little puzzles, using abandoned buildings and stuff, then at the end it is revealed that his father is a Jigsaw cultist and was helping him do these things to the kids.
i know that's a bit extreme for some, but i could see it happening had John not lost his child during pregnancy and raised the kid, since they showed in the series that John already had an unstable mentality about him.
It won't be long before they take this into outer space.
Saw X
No this is much better than 3D. 3D had some fun moments but came across as what it was-a rushed finale. It was supposed to be two films but because VI underperformed Lionsgate crammed it all into one film and you can tell. Jigsaw was back to the basics of the franchise was a fun popcorn flick.
Who needs Jigsaw as the master of deadly traps when we have Yami Yugi from the original Yugioh manga, before the card game. That guy came up with some pretty interesting games and not only did he make them, he participated in them.
Vincent Kaiji could survive ;)
Do you think you'll do any more video game reviews? It's been ages since the last one.
This movie does ask a lot of you in respect to suspension of disbelief but I so appreciated the pay off. I readily admit I was just hoping for it to be better than Saw 3D and delve more into John Kramer's story. No spoilers.

Wasn't Saw II pretty much Saw and Cube?
Well yeah, but it still isn't in space!
Cube is one of my all favorite films of all time!! It is another one that gets labeled as torture porn, even though only 2 people get killed by traps. The rest get killed by other humans in the cube.
Jigsaw in da hood would be lit 🔥
Gore isn’t a prerequisite for something to be torture porn - some of the most painful things are not full of blood and guts, but make you cringe because you can imagine how horrific they feel. Some of the worst torture porn I’ve seen has been mostly bloodless 😳
It's not bad. You can basically have 1,2,3 and Jigsaw. Disregard 4,5,6 and 7.
In my own ranking I put it up with the better to middle ones, round same level as 5 or 6, way better than 4 so definetly not the worst of the Franchise
Marius Møller agree. Definitely not the worst.
SAW 9: Jigsaw vs Pinocchio - it got supernatural
I do like Jigsaw but it lacks the question of what I'm asking like is Adam alive, Is Dr. Gordan is still Jigsaw, and is David Hoffman actually dead. I accept it as it is but I found this sequal to be unnecessary but still enjoyable
We need a poll between Jigsaw in Space or in tha' Hood
Thought it was a stupidly fun film that you can turn your brain off to watch. I do wonder if the next film in the series will be Saw 9, or Jigsaw 2 though. Is this meant to be a soft reboot?
I figured it wouldn’t be as good. I’ll take your advice and wait for this to be available to rent. Thanks Cecil.
Jigsaw in Da Hood and Jigsaw in Space to be filmed back to back
how was 3 core and not 4? since they were filmed and happened at the same time lol
Because 4 is preposterous unbelievable trash and 3 isn’t.
The original Saw is one of the best horror movies ever, it is NOT torture porn, 2-8 IS torture porn, yes, 2 and 3 ARE torture porn. and each one took it even further down that genre dead end road.

i actually enjoyed it more than any saw movie since the first. it wasnt all ultraviolent cringe horror and i found it sort of refreshing.

I thought it was a prequel by the title but I guess there is still hope for that
How would they even make a prequel? The first saw captured the start of the killing spree, didn't it?
It's always interesting to see different reviewers on UA-cam! E.g. while YMS tends to be highly critical and GBF rather soft, it felt like YMS gave a sloghtly more favorable review for this one! :D
I recommend you to check it out Turkish horror "Baskin" (2015). Very interesting nightmarish film. Like fever dream.
Not seeing this one. I'm brunt out on this franchise
Talia Price even after 7 years?
Deric James are you trolling
Never really cared for the franchise only thought the first 2 were alright the rest not so much
Jigsaw Takes Da Hood in Space 3D
A friend with weed is a friend indeed, but a friend with gold is the best I'm told.
Next one: Jigsaw vs The Puppet Masters
The Busta Rhymes joke is awesome
I like III better than II :P
I Kind of disagree. I thought this movie had the least amount of gore. Disappointed me a little. And a little upset that there was barely any traps.
Unfortunately, Loinsgate will continue to pump these out if they feel there is an audience for it.
yeah, as long as they'll make some kind of profit and as long as there's cocaine to shove up their noses... they'll keep coming.
GoodBadFlicks, maybe you should do a review of Outpost(2008),the Horror movie starring Ray Stevenson and Richard Brake.
i love how it looks it finally got upgrade out of the b into a classier tqke of law and order type and actuall wasnt too overly gory besides end...
I was hoping for spoilers because i'm not sure if I want to watch it but i've seen every movie so I just wanna know
G Checks
Same
2 months later but want me to tell you what happens?
They should make a new Final Destination movie. Now those were fun horror movies with endless potential.
I'm not Ice Cube. Didn't that franchise came full circle though? Can they make another one? Dumb question. Of course they can if they think it will make money.
Just reboot it. That is always the answer when they write themselves into a corner.
Saw 3D brought back a character.
Could you do a full list of your favorite movies ever really wanna know your all time favorite
Just have Jigsaw get cryogenically frozen then 455 years later students unfreeze him and take him into space. Then have the technology turn him into Super Jigsaw. Trust me, it'll be better than the real Saw X.
I just watched saw 1 and 2 last night lol . Funny . Hadn’t seen them in a long time .
This was the first movie I watched, I know the plot of 1. I enjoyed this movie actually
1-3 were amazing, the rest are fun to watch but nothing like the first three.
Jigsaw in the hood i would pay to watch that movie
i Guess i'll see it because of my love to the First 2 movies.
Cecil please watch Blade Runner 2049 it is one of my favorite films of the year
I can't believe people think this is the worst movie when saw 7 is right there!
Jigsaw in the hood? HELL YA BOI😎
Explore JU ON!!!
One day I’ll have to do a full saw marathon because after 2 I only saw most of them once.
coming soon SAW X John Kramer in space,
ah, Doug beat me to it.
How about SAW H20 20 years later? perhaps a reality show? As the saw turns? whatever just keep beating the idea to death Hollywood
i was rolling my eyes the whole damn movie. yes we need a jigsaw in the hood
Then they'd be obligated to make Jigsaw in Space. LMAO.
Next... Hmmm... SAW IX...
I liked it, it was like a visit from an old friend, also FLOWER!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is it me or does the poster looks like the poster to Clown?
. i seen the hall saw films in one day i was more curious in the story the first time i watch the hall saw franchise i was paying more attention on jigsaw's story then what other people see if you watch it all from a different point of view like i did. it might explain more then just dead bodys or gore . jigsaw is not a bad guy or a good guy he hates stupid people like stealing things or any crime that people might do . he's basically death sort of and reason with the wrong with traps to make people to not do stupid decisions and change there souls into good people and jigsaw him self doesn't enjoy it but he does it because no one else can change a person to see what it might hurt to see what you really are or make a choose and dont stay calm and let a person's family die because a person that only cares for him self .
sorry if this got morbid but thats how i see what jigsaw was trying to do in the movie saw franchise
also jigsaws billy puppet back story : jigsaw was a clock maker and his wife she was having a baby but her baby was killed by a stupid person that slammed the door on her but jigsaw stop being a clock maker and started making traps to teach people a lesson for making stupid decisions but before he was planing this he made a small billy the puppet doll . the little doll is to represents jigsaw dead son but its a reflection on revenge for stupid people
i like when you do spoilers in your reviews..can you do them just b/c i won’t watch a lot of these movies ?.thanks ! big fan !!
If this movie does well than we'll get more Saw movies. If it flops than whatever theor just reboot it in 10 years or so.
have you watched stranger things season 2 yet?
This would be me my first horror movie
At least it was a few years between movies.
I guess, I fit in the die hard saw fan category. I am one of those who sits back and enjoy this vigilante get back at people who kind of deserves to be tortured.
Weakest of the series? I refuse to believe this is worse than 5, that was just awful.
i SAW this movie for free bc of h3h3. lionsgate sponsored their podcast or something
The Saw is already a great franchise, but it only takes a single movie relative to it to botch it all up...
agreed.
Well, if you don't care about even the biggest plotholes then of course you like this piece-of-shit overhyped franchise.
aww pigmasks :3 they designed the poster to appeal to British prime ministers
Sad to see how unnecessary jigsaw was. After 7 years i hoped they had a good enough idea to return to the series, but it was absolutely pointless and had the most predictable ending in the series.
Great review man
