I love the fact that there a farm spec, ive got an 08 work mate with Window winders and vinyl floor and I love it... takes me to work and home everyday and me and the missus camping on weekends almost 15 years old and 250,000 and never skipped a beat. Don't think I'll ever sell her
Best thing about the 70 series is the after market, you could build it however you want however it will cost you. My build due to be completed early 2022 is - Portal Axles - 300mm Stretch - Stylecraft Tray/Canopy Byebye house deposit
i'm in the middle of planning my next 4wd, i love the 79 shape and motor. i'm looking at the concept of a sliver 79 with a black tray with a 300mm stretch and diff correction gvm upgrade etc. Front seat upgrade and a 1500mm canopy with a upright fridge and inverter etc with the old school post bullbar and side rails. Not forgetting the DPF back exhaust and tune plus clutch. its the 120k plus tag to build holding me back
HI Jesse, yeah they aren't a cheap car. The upside is that they do hold value over some other types of cars. So you will have the purchase price that is higher, but the overall cost of ownership (eg. depreciation etc) is not too bad because they do hold value.
@@MlCKTITS I just like to look at the big picture when planning, as speaking to 1 79 own about his truck and asking what he do differently his response what not build it 3 times
Mine arrives start of feb. I’ve got the tray, bull bar, rock sliders, scrub bars, winch, stainless snorkel and air box, catch can and filter as well as a high clearance tow bar all ordered ready to go on. Hopefully within a few months I’ll then be sound deadening, new stereo, clutch, tune suspension and tyres 👌🏼. Planning on keeping this very long term as I can see the V8 disappearing in the next couple of years so may be my last chance to own one from new.
well, i'd start by extending the chasis, no coil conversion tho. dpf delete, 3 inch lift, wicked barwork, mint tray and 1/2 canopy set up with roof rack, ecu remap, 35 in wheels and id be all set.
Hi Reuben, in you last Tassie trip you had a canvas shield made for the front of the 79 to stop mud and water ingress to the alternator and radiator, how did it perform? where can we get them if it was a success? and how exactly were they mounted/fixed to the 79?
Good followup from the things you hate about 79's. What you love is everything i love about then and have from the 70' series goi g way back. They loves fore outway the hates. Except the costs. Just cant quite get the $$'s together and covid tax is making it harder. But i wont give up on my dream vehicle just yet
Well mate I’d start by putting the last good 79 series (HDJ) body up on a hoist, taking the FTE out of it, and sticking it in a decent chassis & body like a GQ/GU.
2 Door. Roo bar w winch, portal axles, 35s, rock sliders, LED headlights and 2 spotties, 4" snorkel, 5" if possible, straight through 4" exhaust, auto gear box, low range lower to accomodate taller tyres. 4 Breathers, rear bar and winch. Coil springs. All low cupboards etc so I can sleep on top. No crocs nor pigs!! Appropriate gauges, stereo to deafen motorcycle cops, speakers up high, painted in my own cam design, pop top roof. Gun safe. Decent metal bash plates and recovery points. Reversing camera and dash cam. 4X maxtraxs. Er, will you be putting this vehicle together for me?
Best thing about the 79 is I can buy it for a hundred grand or there abouts then sell it 5 -10 years later for nearly double or 2.5 times the original price completely stock.
Nice, I agree, but I am not selling my old 80 that owes me around 10g with 800,000ks on it, to spend another 100g to get a 4wd just with more power and towing capacity, , not worth it or me,
I'd build a 79 with GU running gear,,, get rid of them leafs,,, same rear axle width as front,,,,, must say that V8 diesel does sound good,, but tuned up from factory
Leaf springs proven. Yes ok! Unimog has proven for 75 year that coil springs are great and reliable. My 1965 unimog is on coil springs portal axles and 100% difflocks.
Sorry but you haven’t won me back after the previous vid. Nothing over rides the fact they are uncomfortable, over priced and UNDER POWERED. With that in mind there is nothing good about them.
@@ajwallace00 cheers I hear what you’re saying and totally agree. But I have to thank you for your honest opinion. Cheers and have a great Christmas also. Hohohoho!

the TJM bar work looks awesome Reuben, you build an awesome canopy , that what mine needs
Cheers Rolly! The whole packages came together very nicely. The TJM bar work in on point I recon.
The front end of that 79 is the best I’ve seen love that bullbar 😍
It is a cracker hey Wilbur. The legends are TJM make a good bar.

I agree. You can make it your own which is pretty cool.
Again only 5 🤣🤣🤣 love your handy work. Hopefully see you guys in the new year to fit my wagon out

Absolutely!

I love my 79, its an 05 with a 1HD-FTE from factory. I wouldn't sell or swap it for anything.
That is a ripper of a car Dean. Hang ono it for sure. :)
The value of that car is going to forever go up and up!
Same here with me, wouldn't get rid of this for anything.
