You are right to teach rhythm. And early on. Maybe students should learn it before they tackle harmony. Straight players dive into jazz harmony, and it takes them years even to realise how deficient their jazz rhythms were.
Rhythm is king!
Rhythm is the most important aspect.
Your approach is really great. Do you have a way to cut out the piano on your backing tracks with the end result being just drums and bass?
Unfortunately not. Unless I make them like that.
