Hello, I just published a Full Frame E-Mount Lens version of this video with the new ZV-E1 in mind for those interested here: ua-cam.com/video/IyiK2D9GUzc/v-deo.html
Oh my goodness! This is by far the best review of the lineup of sony lenses to choose from for the ZVE10. Thank you so much Jason! I must have watched over 10 reviews on the lenses by now, but couldn't find anyone who provided such a visual rundown of how these lenses actually function in a real-life setting. I know how much time and effort is put into making such videos, so I just want to say, that you nailed this one off the park mate. I now know what lens to go with!
Thanks David for the comments and kind words :) This one took me a while to put together.... To your point, the reason I did not include the Sigma 16mm in this list is because the New Sony 11mm f/1.8 Lens and the Viltrox 13mm f/1.4 lens are better options in my opinion. Before these two new lenses, the Sigma 16mm was king for sure ;) All the best, Jay
@@Jason_Hermann The 16 Sigma is not replaced by eith the 13 or 11. It is a 24mm equivalent, the 13 is 20mm equivalent, and the 11 is 16.5mm equivalent all of which are valuable focal lengths, and each with pros and cons. I could make a case for collecting all three over time. I have the Sigma 16mm. I will get the Sony 11 next and when I win a lottery I will add the Viltrox 13. I don't care about the blurry backgrounds, but f1.4 is valuable for exposure in lower light.
This was an amazing review. I recently bought a ZVE10 camera and I was looking for lens options. I already have a good perspective thanks to you. Last week I bought the Tamron 11-20mm and, once I save more money, I will buy some more using your links to support you. Thanks again!!
Thank you so much for the very kind comments and support using the links Gabriela :) I really appreciate it and if you ever have any questions please feel free to ask! All the best, Jay
@@Jason_Hermann Hi, can you suggest what lenses I should get for UA-cam make tutorial sit down videos with Sony ZV E10?will need zoom in eye make up tutorials and pictures as well as full face sit down videos showing video to up to chest level/neck level depending on the type of make up..I am new to all this and appreciate some guidance plzz.thanks
I'm looking for my first camera and had no idea there were versatile lenses! Probably going with the Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8. Thanks for the thorough review! I learned a lot from you just now.
You're an incredible teacher Jason. Love this video and also your video tutorial on how to use the ZV-E10. Your tutorials are all so easy to understand. You are thorough and show examples of what you mean and I truly appreciate the lengths you go to in order to help us understand.
You are a godsend! Thanks a ton for putting together this incredible amount of information and making the choice of a lens for the camera infinitely easier.
Man I've been watching your channel ever since I switched from Nikon to Sony, I'm so glad you hit the 100k milestone, you totally deserve it! All the best to you 💚
Thanks man! I'm into fashion photography and started using this cam and have been deciding which lens I should get. Thanks to this video, I was able to make the right decision!
I have the alpha1 and just bought this one for my wife. She started watching your video and she is now snagging my gm lenses as well as trying all sort of crop sensors. Thanks for taking the time to shoot and edit this video.
Best video on lenses for ZV E10 I am watching right now with excellent informations! Just 2 days before I purchased that camera with lenses, but now I am thinking why I couldn't see your video before because I am feeling these other lanses purchase separately can be a much better option than sony camera kit lense. Thank you so much for this information 😊
U just made my day. So efforts u did in this video to make it so interesting and informative. I just learnt so many things from this video. Love your details about the camera lens and the way they shoot. Thanks for the type of knowledge. Love from India
Thank you so much for this video! I got the ZVE10 last year and I'm still really in love with it! Since I got it with the kit lens, I really want to upgrade. My eyes are on the Sigma 56mm f/1.4. I want to do product photography with more sharpness since the kit lens doesn't give much. :)
Hello and that is a fantastic option for that purpose ;) Also the higher telephoto length will have less distortion for a more accurate capture which is very import for products! All the best, Jay
i would suggest you try the sigma 30 mm f 1.4 it is much more versatile and is also amazing for product photography its basically the nifty fifty for apsc google that term and you will see why photographers love that focal range with the 30 you have a lens that could be your daily driver and live on the camera plus you save quite a bit of money
Hey Jason, I really appreciate your content. The detailed explanation is unmatched compared to other channels. I recently purchased the Sony ZV-E10. I'm shooting Podcast style videos at a desk, as well as man on the street interviews on sidewalks, events, etc. What lens or lenses do you think would best suit my needs? I'm trying to keep the cost under $700. Thanks so much!
Glad you enjoyed it and I totally agree about seeing them demonstrated one after another. Very eye opening to people new to lenses and all their various focal lengths and aperture differences.
This is an awesome video! I’m new to the awesome world of photography/videography & cameras in general. Just got my first camera - zv e10 - & I’m getting very comfortable with the kit lens & looking to get my second one. After watching this video I’m def more confident on what I want, a million thanks! Extremely helpful. P.s - I watched another video right before this one for the same reason (which lens should I get next?) & though it was helpful it did feel incomplete. A million thanks & I look forward to watching more ini
Great channel! Just discovered you since it was time to dust off my old canon xti with my 17-55 2.8 lense or my 50 1.8 and realized it was dead. Pretty much set on the ev10 for some filming as well. I love my blur and fast lenses so this helped a ton!
Thank you so much for this video. This seriously has helped me as I am looking to upgrade recording devices for my sports videography platform. I've been doing a lot of research but this video definitely helped me realize what I can start with, then hopefully work up to. I've been recording on my iPad Pro in 4K so having a camera that could do 4K was key, so the zv-e10 was popping up a lot in my searching but everyone seemed to only focus on the lenses that I can't afford yet, this was the perfect amount of versatility in prices as well as in focal options. Definitely a new subscriber after this one, and I will be checking out more of your content. Do you have any advice on what else I could use in a budget friendly starter kit as I transition from my current iPad/iPhone & hand-held tripod setup to the ZV-E10 (hopefully gimbal) set up for sports videography? If you have any specific videos that's fine to link them too.
Gonna be using ZV-E10 filming for indie tv show people talking not in their face but close with out zooming , photography will be happening but not a priority compared to video.
Love the comparison of lenses, great effort!! I was confused if I should really buy the ZVE10. I am a beginner photographer and more interested in lights and night photography. Is the ZVE10 versatile for night photography in your opinion? Thank you!
Hey Jason - nice thought about myself as a *sponsor* . I've never seen a UA-camr say that before - but its so true. Anyway, my ZV-e10 doesn't really leave the house as I record vdo interviews in my home studio. The kit lens isn't giving me the blurry background. I'm trying to keep costs down - so any recommendations on a (prime maybe) lens (any brand) that is best for recording a person talking indoors? I appreciate your time and advice ;) Im thinking the Sony 50mm F1.8 (SEL50F18)
Hey there and thanks for the feedback about the sponsor segment... I was not sure how that would be received, but it is 100% true as you said... As far as lenses I would consider the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 lens (geni.us/Emr2pam), because it will give you that blurry background and it's very affordable. If the camera is farther away, the Sigma 56mm f/1.4 Lens (geni.us/7HBE) would also be a great option... The Sony 50mm f/1.8 is a very good option also, but if you are using a tripod you don' t need the optical stabilization and the Sigma f/1.4 will give you a more blurry background than f/1.8. I hope that helps and all the best, Jay
Thanks for all your videos on the ZV-E10! I’m a complete beginner and you’ve been a god send. What lens would you say it best for macro shots of animals?
@@Jason_HermannI keep snakes so I’d like to get close ups of their eyes to capture the details, Also will be having some invertebrates in the future so close ups of insects basically. I’ve heard good things about the Sony 50mm macro lens?
ahhh yes, reptiles are so cool and a macro lens is perfect for those details. The FE 50mm geni.us/hDAV is an excellent option for a reasonable price point and the FE 90mm geni.us/47JRv0w is the really awesome option which will allow you to be further away from your subject and still get the killer detail plus the optics are insanely good. See my 90mm review here if you want a preview... ua-cam.com/video/04_mHoN6Dgg/v-deo.html
First at all thanks for all the explanation your video explanation method is real nice. For filming on wedding, celebration, partys or stuff what lenses I have to pick as first options? Just filming not photography
Great video! Would love to hear your thoughts on videography with these lenses as well. I also heard you can add a booster adapter to further support Canon lenses, so hope you can review them as well especially the Sigma 18-35mm
I just watched a little of the turkey video and it looks like somebody is filming you on a gimbal mostly. In the channel trailer you were on your porch with the camera on a tripod it looked like... For the static shots I would use something like the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 lens and for the gimbal shots in the kitchen, something a bit wider like the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 lens would be a great option. I would also consider a zoom lens for the gimbal, so you can change the view here and there while filming if changing angles and stuff. I would also consider a static camera for another angle... Shoot me an email if you want ;)
@@Jason_Hermann Thanks so much for the reply. I am considering the ZV-E10 camera. I have no experience with removable lenses so I am grateful for your input.
From 7:30 - 8.00 of this video we see you riding on your bicycle. May I ask how you took those action shots please? How you set up your camera to capture how you jump over humps and winding, bumpy paths amongst trees?
It was a time consuming process of setting the camera up on a mini tripod, setting the focus and the camera to HD/ 120p video format, then recording.. I would have to do the turns twice, because I only had the one camera. So coming into the turn I would get a clip, and then I would move the camera and go back so I can do the turn again and catch the exit for example. I would then go back again to get the camera and set-up for the next turn... I then cut all those separate clips together in final cut, and because I recorded in 120p frame rate, I can slow-motion any of the footage for effect... Here is a 120p slow-motion tutorial I made if you are interested: ua-cam.com/video/x61INdvIJGI/v-deo.html
@@Jason_Hermann Fantastic! Thank you for the detailed explanation. It was well worth the effort going by the result you got. Great footage! I'll definitely check out the slow-mo video.
Hi Jason, thank you so much for explaining in detail. You break it down so well & congratulations on 100k!🎉🎉 I’m a UA-camr & I got the ZVE10 with the kit lens. I do DIY sewing tutorials, what lens do you recommend ? I’ve read the Tamron 11-20 & sigma 16 is good but I see you also mention the new sony, kindly advice Thanks Edit: set up is overhead with a C-stand. I’m keen on details so I soon in when necessary otherwise I need a wide view ..
Sounds like you need a wide angle zoom lens for the overhead. I use and overhead with the C-Stand and ZV-E-10 w/ E 16-70mm f/4 OSS ZA Lens: geni.us/p8Thj That 16-70mm range lets me zoom in on the details when I need to and 16mm gives me the entire table top. It doesn't sound like you need that much range, but I would recommend a zoom lens for sure. The new Sony's are great as is the Tamron 11-20mm... However you don't need f/2.8 for what you are doing so an F/4 zoom would be lighter weight and cheaper, also the 11-20mm is probably to wide for a lot of what you want to show? I would recommend something like I have with a constant aperture., so one that does not change as you zoom. Something like the Sigma 18-50mm or the Tamron 17-70mm would give you more zoom range than the 10-20mmm and 11-20mm... I hope that helps and lenses are listed in the description area if you want to check them out.
Hey Charles, thanks for sharing your suggestions and yes those are great options! However, I feel the 16mm is to heavy and not wide enough now that the 11mm f/1.8 is available and Viltrox 13mm f/1.4 will be available soon... even though the Sigma 16mm is a lot cheaper... Just my opinion of course ;) And the 18-50mm is also a really good lens, but I think the E 16-70mm f/4 or the Tamron E 17-70mm f/2.8 are better options for the increased range. Again, they are great options for sure, but I wanted to keep the list to the best options in my opinion for the money... It always depends on your individual needs, budget, and what focal lengths you prefer to use. All the best, Jay
Great video and breakdown of the different lenses! I just picked up the ZV-E10. What would be a good lense to get zoomed out more? The kit lense doesn’t zoom out as much as I need sometime and the crop when I have stabilization on doesn’t help lol. Thank you
You would need a wider lens if you want it zoom OUT more... Notice in this video when I show your kit lens then switch to the wider angle prime lenses... So you can go with a wider angle prime or something like the Tamron 11-20mm geni.us/q8WZ or the Sony 10-18mm geni.us/LImCY8T for example if you want a ultra wide angle zoom lens.
It will depend how far the people are from the camera and how much of the people you want in the frame? If you have that info I can tell you which lens, otherwise I would go with an f/2.8 zoom like the Sigma 18-50mm geni.us/E3PW for example. That will give you some flexibility with each camera to zoom in an out getting the framing just right. If you want a more blurry background for each person, then I would go with a faster prime lens like the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 Lens geni.us/Xa7cq assuming you have enough room to have the camera far enough away.
What a video!! Thank you SO much Jason for sharing your knowledge. Very helpful content. I’ve been in a dilemma as I’d like to buy a lens that allows me to film in front of the camera like you do but also to record from the top. I usually do handcraft tutorials, so I fix the camera on a tripod arm pointing downwards to film my hands and objects on a table. I’ve been using the kit lens so far, but I struggle with the settings due to the lack of fixed length and aperture. By watching your video, I think the Sigma 30mm, or Sigma 56mm or even the Sony 18-105mm might be a good versatile option (and within my budget). Would you have a recommendation for this particular setting? Thanks!
Hello there, one thing you can do is set the aperture to the max f/5.6 and then when you zoom it won't change... Ideally you would want constant aperture zoom lens though I agree. Something like the E 16-70mm f/4 OSS lens geni.us/p8Thj for example is what I am using for my overhead rig with the ZV-E10. You can get them used really cheap!! The Sony 18-105mm geni.us/x0pL will also do the job well and has even more zoom range... For when you are in front of the camera looking at it, I would prefer to have the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 as well, but that is another purchase... I hope that helps and all the best, Jay
Thanks for sharing Rob :) I love that ultra wide 11mm, but the punchy contrast on the 15mm f/1.4 G Lens keeps grabbing my eye as well... All the best, Jay
very good information, only thing id like to add is I watch these as I'm getting into bed, and when your speaking I set the volume so I can hear you, then you cut scene to real world examples and the music is so loud that i end up disturbing my partner and quickly have to lower and raise the volume back and forth and it gets tiresome having to try to jump to the volume every time the scene switches. could you maybe keep your voice volume and music to the same decibel ? other then that i love the videos !
Learning about photography, which one do you recommend for a lens that will do everything. Zooming with video and photos, Photography for travel, people and of course landscape, product for social media that is small and isn’t heavy? I don’t want to purchase one lens per each need and change every time a scene changes. Also, it has to be affordable. It sounds like I’m describing a perfect lens, but I know there’s got to be one out there… thank you
Thanks for the great content !!! I am taking a milky way course and new to photography . Could you recommend d the best lens for me and my Sony zve10 for milky way photography please , thank you very much 😎
Something wide angle, fast, and sharp would be what I would want for that, so the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 lens geni.us/Inpzgn or the Viltrox 13mm f/1.4 Lens geni.us/VFg9X would both be great options!
Hey Jason, fairly new to the camera game. I have done all my research when it comes to lens and I recently got the ZV-E10 and was looking for a few lens but did not want to get anything unnecessary. With money not being a issue what so ever. What lens would you recommend picking up to cover ALL needs for video and photography - Thank you in advance 😌

See my 90mm review here if you want a preview... ua-cam.com/video/04_mHoN6Dgg/v-deo.html
dude…. THANK YOU !!!!! … THANK !! YOU!!!
First at all thanks for all the explanation your video explanation method is real nice.
For filming on wedding, celebration, partys or stuff what lenses I have to pick as first options? Just filming not photography
Thanks for this information which I do need.
Very informative video and great effort !!!
Great video! Would love to hear your thoughts on videography with these lenses as well. I also heard you can add a booster adapter to further support Canon lenses, so hope you can review them as well especially the Sigma 18-35mm
Great video!
Thanks!
Very well made content! Super informative, thank you!!
Amazing video! I love your content, keep it up man
Thanks, will do! ;)
Excellent reviews . Really Learned a lot !
Why is not included Tamron 18-300??? I have the 18-135 Sony and I'm thinking go for this Tamron to have more zoom. Great video
With som many lenses to chose I had to leave some out... I agree, that Tamron 18-300mm geni.us/GCZeO18 is a very good all in one lens option!
I love this video.
Excellent video. Love this
Thank you!
Great video! What lens would you recommend for my cooking channel? Thanks in advance.
@@Jason_Hermann Where can i find your email address?
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!!!!!!
You need a kit lens(15-55mm), a telephoto 210mm and at last sigma 16mm.
Great video man
thanks for showing us and im gonna buy it
Hi Jason, thank you so much for explaining in detail. You break it down so well & congratulations on 100k!🎉🎉
I’m a UA-camr & I got the ZVE10 with the kit lens. I do DIY sewing tutorials, what lens do you recommend ? I’ve read the Tamron 11-20 & sigma 16 is good but I see you also mention the new sony, kindly advice
Thanks
Edit: set up is overhead with a C-stand.
@@Jason_Hermann thank you so much! That’s very helpful & I’ll use your link. 🙏🏾
Excellent video. I’m a total newb and am wondering if you might be able to tell me how far your camera was placed from your face?
Thanks and I showed you that in the video when I reached out and touched the camera. So about arms length I would say to be clear...
superb information. thanks
So helpful! 🙌🏽
Such an amazing review, this is a great resource and cemented my decision to purchase a ZV-E10.
Buy the lenses I want and later upgrade to the FX30.
Thank you for the kind words and that is a very logical plan ;)
so helpful! Thanks a lot!
Missing the Sigma 16mm f1.4 and the Sigma 18-50 f2.8. The 18-50 is a great kit lens replacement and standard zoom lens.
All the best,
Jay
@@Jason_Hermann thank you for the info and reply!
Great information!
What is the appropriate lens if I want to use this camera to shoot a podcast, three cameras.
Very very helpful...
Nice comparison. I still think the Sony 11mm 1.8 is the win with the ZV-E10 crops (Active and 1.5 APS-C) makes this around 23mm +/-.
Thanks for sharing Rob :) I love that ultra wide 11mm, but the punchy contrast on the 15mm f/1.4 G Lens keeps grabbing my eye as well... All the best, Jay
15mm f1.4 is the best
16mm is too close for vlogging.I have to add a wide angle attachment on the lens..I made a unboxing video on it
very good information, only thing id like to add is I watch these as I'm getting into bed, and when your speaking I set the volume so I can hear you, then you cut scene to real world examples and the music is so loud that i end up disturbing my partner and quickly have to lower and raise the volume back and forth and it gets tiresome having to try to jump to the volume every time the scene switches. could you maybe keep your voice volume and music to the same decibel ? other then that i love the videos !
I really appreciate the feedback, thank you Durabro, and thanks for the kind words :)
It sounds like I’m describing a perfect lens, but I know there’s got to be one out there… thank you
I feel like you camera is so much clearer than mine! Do you have a video on your settings 😊
I would recommend watching this video for more advanced camera settings: ua-cam.com/video/R-S9SS3uq1g/v-deo.html
@@Jason_Hermann thank you!
Great Video, I’m planning to shoot a conversation scene between 3 friends inside a room. Which lens would you say would be the best??
Well that depends how far the camera is from you and how close you guys are together?
What lens would you recommend picking up to cover ALL needs for video and photography
- Thank you in advance 😌
Hello, If I could only have one lens for both photos and video it would be the Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 VC Lens: geni.us/d3s70B
try some more tamron lenses in next video
Other than the Sony E 11mm lens in the video do you have any recommendations for ultra wide angle lens'?
I would like to know what is a decent lens to record video on basketball courtside. To keep the size of the lens not overly big and within a beginner budget using a zv e10
Beginner budget court side, I would recommend the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 Lens: geni.us/OXPD6
Nice video and very good comparison. I was expecting to see tamron 18-300 mm lens too!
Also a good do everything lens option!
Very good!
Thanks!
Amazing video! 🔥 I just have one question though. What’s a less expensive flash I can buy alternative to the Sony flash for the zv-e10?
