Fruit for me
The coconut is fruit of the single seeded drupe variety. a drupe is a fruit that has a seed with a hard stony covering , Cherries and apricots are drupes where the fleshy outer fruit is eaten , but with some like almonds and coconuts the seed is the eatable part and the fruit surrounding the seed is inedible . On a side note Coffee is also a drupe type fruit, so coffee is technically fruit juice...
As an American, I was so very lost on my first visit to London (and Europe). This was before smart phones. We walked around for hours mystified how anyone knew all the street names and locations without any street signs to guide them. It completely baffled us, until about 4 days into our trip when we discovered the street names were on the sides of the buildings (how did we miss this?!?!). In North America, street sign are on poles at the street corners.
In Europe it varies from city to city. Some have street names on the buildings, some have them on poles at the corner of the streets, and others switch between them, sometimes even from one corner to the next. Best thing you can do to figure out a street's name, is walk to an intersection, then look around. Are there any poles with street names? If not, are there any signs with street names on the buildings?
Please do more content on the city itself!! Like, what's your itinerary for first-time visitors, and stuffs like that. I would love to hear from you who's on the road so you obviously knows many things and hidden gem!!
A dogeared paperback A to Z 10 years out of date and you can't go wrong.
That 'mental map' bit speaks true for my navigation experience, not just in London but pretty much any city I live. Perhaps it's from playing video games but honestly there is a feeling of having every 'places of interest' marked on the map
Considering the only time I visited London was back in 1997, I have a great mental map because GPS navigating wasn't a thing. I studied maps before I went and used tiny popup ones along the way (to be in stealth tourist mode). The fun thing is, I have great mental maps of everywhere I went in my 2 months in the UK, so I can re-live my travels with Google streetview... it's great fun. Thanks for so much scenery of London... it's making me want to go back so bad!
The Terra Incognito thing and getting lost really helped me to navigate London. I've lived here all my life, but saw each part of the city as a separate "zone", so to speak. At a certain point in the pandemic, when I didn't have much to do, I'd just walk around to parts of London I wouldn't usually go to, and it made me understand the city better and everything kind of clicked into place like a jigsaw puzzle. Sometimes, I'd purposefully get lost or go off the beaten track to see if I could find my way to a familiar location by looking at reference points like distinctive buildings, street signs, street furniture, etc.
loving the new thumbnails, really stand out and certainly make me click to watch the videos. Also as someone who's only really been london a few times (non-work related) in the past my first thought when i got into Euston to get to a street which is actually a walkable distance was to jump in a cab. That was until the one day after someone i know was travelling back on the same train and said lets walk.
Thanks Karl! Trying to make them as relate-able to the content as possible 👍🏻
My trick is to just keep walking until I find a tube station or the river, that way people aren't likely to follow you as they don't think you're lost, and you'll always get to somewhere with a map.
Also, a coconut nut is not a nut, if you eat too much, you'll get very fat... ;)
Is this secretly a "7 tips to play GeoGuessr in a London map" video?
I literally can’t go anywhere new without going on Street view first and making a note of specific landmarks, where to cross roads etc
I tried to visit every London Underground station in a single day last October and preparation for this is key. Because you don't have time to get lost. So I used Google Earth for the walking between station bits, research ed buses and then the week before did a two day practice to familiarise myself with the route
Wow a video shot outside my office at Holborn Circus! My tips for navigating London: Get off the tube and use the bus for shorter journeys so that you see how London fits together instead of "surfacing" at the start and end of your journey. If you need to use the tube, the time it takes to get from one underground station to the next is on average 2 mins. Look at your start and end stations, count the gaps multiply by 2 and that's roughly how many minutes it will take
I never thought about counting the gaps, that’s a good tip!
My rule overall rule is that most of central London can be 20 minutes. It’s my defacto time when someone in the city says “how long to Mayfair?” “It’s about 20 minutes” 🤪
@@TomtheTaxiDriver Also don't take the tube from Charing Cross to Embankment ... it's quicker to walk there. Leicester Square to Covent Garden is also worth doing as a walk
Your a genius Tom 👏👏
Have you ever had a passenger question your route????
Keep the videos coming 🍻
I challenge my learner drivers to find their way home after I deliberately get then lost.
Bus stops are useful as they often say (in tiny letters) "towards anytown"
Some handy tips there Tom. I still have my old A-Z which comes in handy. Definitely don’t like doing the hello I’m lost let’s wave google maps about to all the pickpockets.
Brilliant advice, thanks Tom.
Was amused at the woman behind you, at the start of the 'use clues' section, who was obviously trying to find her way somewhere. 😆
Yep, getting lost is often when you find the 'hidden gems'. 🙂
Yet another amazing video Sir
Interesting what you say Tom. I learnt all the streets, and points of interest in central London about fifty years ago, and thought good that’s done. In my youthful naivety not realising that London changes all the time, and you have to constantly keep up to date with the changes. I hate not to know where somewhere of significance is, or to have forgotten.😢
Another quality video Tom… just finished reading your book too which gave me a great insight to the KOL! Great content keep it coming…
Will there be more podcasts int he future?
Thank you! Really appreciate that!
I will be doing more with WizAnn, as for my own, I want to get UA-cam under wraps before advancing with more projects
Fair enough… it’s quite the work load!
I took some of your tips from the book with me today on the bike and will try out some of the other recommendations.
My absolute saviour is the city mapper. It’s bloody brilliant.😅😊
icl on vic linew it does say east to west at some points, but yeah you are right
Preparation is everything. I get most of my work a week in advance, especially if I need to go somewhere unknown, I will check the route a few times every day to get an idea of common issues. A colleague just relies on his SatNav, and always has issues.
As for coconut, it is the best yfood flavour, but mango is giving it a run for its money.
I’m in London on Friday 30th. Hopefully going to Camden Town from Liverpool Street. Looks like it’s gonna be good day
At 3:43 there is a female behind Tom doing the google spin lol
I got lost in london back before satnavs were actually useful. I think it was the day after michael jackson died as when i finally got home at 6am i turned the tele on to see me and my pals in the background on bbc news with a group of kids singing billy jean 😂😂😂
Keep the river close by and its easy to get out of london 😂
Finally ordered yfood thanks to this video, love your channel.. BUT.. they use Evri to deliver. Delivery attempt 1:Evri said I wasn’t in (I was and I have a ring doorbell), number 2: as above. Number 3: “we can’t find your house”, 4: delivery delayed. 5: delivery delayed. So I cancelled my order and my food account and asked for a refund. It never arrived and I think Evri may have stolen the goods! Shame as yfood would fit in with my busy lifestyle. Tom, can you pass this message on as their customer care didn’t care about Evri being awful. I tried one yfood from H&B before ordering so I was really excited for this. I won’t order whilst they use Evri.
I’ll be going from Waterloo to Tottenham Court Road used google maps street view to work out the route using a wheelchair though makes it more of a challenge but doable
ive always just turnt up and figure it out from there. ive never got lost
Good video Tom
Ive got a 67 reg focus used to constantly use the satnav (and sod paying the annual update fee). Since covid councils had free reigns made so many streets one way or LTNs. Ended up going onto google maps. Tom, dont how you do it.
ruddy good channel, guv
very interesting tom.
"is a coconut a nut?" lol that's like a seinfeld joke. or maybe Karl Pilkington. either way it's bloody funny
Awesome video
I use a mental map plus the river and sooner or later you find a tube station.
Please do a "draw my Life" or any other form of telling your life journey!!! Interested to hear more about your corporate guy journey hahhahaha 🤣
I love the “Judas” leaving card (I assume 😂)
No word of a lie. I know my way around Central London thanks to The Getaway & Black Monday 😂
Was in a tourist gift shop with friends yesterday and their street signs all read ‘City of London’ even for streets like Oxford Street, Piccadilly etc. I thought of raising the obvious, but really we all know the deal with these shops - does it really matter?
Thanks, I'll still get lost, but I'll feel better about it.
Who is editing ur videos and doing graphic
I edit
Don’t really know how you can get lost in London. So many landmarks and people to ask where to go. Plus signposts and navigation posts
Hi Tom
It’s not a nut I can’t eat any nuts but I can eat coconuts 🌴 love the videos can u do a Saturday night again in London please
Coconut is a Drupe

Only in random cul de sacs/housing areas way out of central
Can confirm YFOOD is amazing! Saw it in the Co-OP and only got it because I saw it in a Tom The Taxi Driver video!
