@SmartToaster We were a French colony in the 1700's, we joined Canada (one of the founding provinces) in 1867. We're also not the only province that has French speakers, my province (New Brunswick) is about half-French. It's called 'Acadie'.

English is the first language, French is second, although both are used at Federal level. They are Canadians, thats it. Also, Canadian French is not quite the same as French French.
