Just to correct you, I don't think that instrument that came with Lilo was a guitar, it was a ukulele. A ukulele is a Hawaiian instument.

Lego Mini Sets: There are mini sets that are basically additions to the bigger Lego playsets, like Harry Potter and Star Wars, PLUS they're perfect for 12 inch dolls, so it looks like they have thier OWN lego sets!
DIY Candy Kits: It's candy, but you make it yourself! They sell the Japanese kinds in candy or Asian Stores for a good price!
DVDs, be it cartoons, anime or just good old comedies, I found the Christmas movies and specials for around $9.99 at Walgreens, like How the Grinch Stole Christas and The Grinch!
Video Games: I found that getting video game that were originally used before, but still in good condition can be bought at a good price, and this is true with buying video games digitally online, like the Switch! They're already selling the original NES game you can buy on the Nintendo eShop! I recently found two MtM AA Soccer Barbies for $9.99 on Walmart's website! =) Although I kind of like the Fresh dolls, five (or even nine) points of articulation (for the current regular fashionistas-not the first wave) isn't all that much. There aren't many of them in the Darbie shows, and for good reason. You're basically paying $8 (or more) for a single clothes outfit and (maybe) a head to swap... When will Matte£ be making MtM Kens available?
Little tip:
If you are really tight on money buy a doll from a place like good will (they are like two bucks) and clean it up with acetone. Repaint the face and possibility reroot the hair with yarn. Seal face with hair spray. Now you have a custom mini me for the receiver!
Total price around ten dollars and even less if you find one at the bottom of your toy box
