His mom wanted him to go to college (and used her connections to get him accepted), but he wanted to be a rapper. They both presented their cases to his father...who decided that he had a year to make it in the music business. If not, then he would go to college. (Again, his mom used her connections to extend his acceptance for a year.) He hit with "Girls Are Nothing But Trouble" (he claims it's a true story) and "Parents Just Don't Understand" so he never went to college.
