I really appreciate how many exemplary throws you put out there in tandem with your points. Too many talking heads telling you how to throw but not throwing. Seeing you effortlessly launch quality forehands is a testament to the fact that you put in the homework and fieldwork.
This is honestly the most applicable and comprehensive (and contemporary) forehand video I’ve seen. Super relatable and outside of mentioning Ricky’s style (a hybrid of Barsby-Sexton style) you definitely covered the bases and I agree, the Barsby-Jerm form is the most diverse and aesthetically pleasing of them all. Well done, kind sir. Thank you for the content!
Nah this is actually one of the best "coaching" videos I've ever watched. Went from an unusable forehand drive to usable with good potential after a small amount of trial and error. It was really helpful to see the different styles, get the one or two points on what makes that style, and then as you said not have any cues and just let my body work itself out. Often people throw around a bunch of cues and then they get in my head and end up having a negative effect.
I’m new, 3 months now. I’m 71 years old with an electronic implant in my back. Backhand really hurts. I can’t wait to try these tips. Great video. Thanks.
Pain? I'd recommend throwing lighter discs, even down to 130-150 grams. Watch out for getting hurt with forehand as well, many get strained shoulders and elbows.
This is the best forehand video ever. I’m at my firehouse and just went outside and ripped some rockets for the first time just by watching you snap forehands. Better than watching anyone else’s step by step form bullshit. Thank you 🤙🏾
I fell asleep in the middle of the day in the middle of this video. And I still think it’s one of the better forehand tutorials I’ve ever seen. Great stuff.
That was about the best DG video I have seen to date. You sound like a coach, you teach like a coach, and you shared some great insights. Sometimes the best coaches are not people who have achieved the highest levels in a sport, but they are people who can see people playing at the highest levels, understand what's happening to make it high level, and then translate that into meaningful, actionable info. Well done. And Thanks.
This was the most comprehensive and raw forehand video I have ever seen. Nobody ever breaks down form or talks about the lag with the elbow. I cant wait to try out these tips this week! Thanks for the video man.
When I started thinking about my forehand like I was skipping a rock on a lake it totally clicked for me. At first I started throwing flexes with overstable discs because of my baseball background. Then one day I grabbed a fission photon with my mind set on skipping a rock instead of throwing a ball and the disc shot out of my hand dead straight with a gorgeous skip fade at the end. Game changer for me. Great video 👍
This is the most enjoyable video to watch. And yet it's frustrating for me. I'm 79 years old and been playing around 12 years. I'm not expecting miracles. If I could throw 200 plus feet effortlessly with some sort of control I would be so happy. I like how many throws he puts out there in his 20 something minute video and I try to study his elbow, arm, wrist movements, and it happens so quickly, smoothly, and effortlessly it's hard to comprehend. And then he says just f'n be athletic and do it. It cracks me up. Anyway, I'm just anxious to get out in the field and try to duplicate some of that. Wish me luck, probably not gonna happen.🤣🤣🤣
I am a forehand-dominant player off the tee (rarely ever drive backhand due to knees). Started with a single index finger grip because it was all I could control in the beginning. When the single finger grip stopped being secure enough for the power I was putting behind my shots, I learned a 2 finger grip (Nate Sexton style) and it revolutionized my distance and the stability of my discs. Not only did the 2 finger grip allow me to transfer more power to the disc, but also introduce WAY more spin. Suddenly discs I used to hyzer-flip won't turn over and are flying farther. I get more spin and snap because my wrist is more active with the 2 finger grip. Had to relearn nose angle control when I switched, but its been worth it!
Great vid bud. There are so many ways to throw. Learn them all and you will get the most pleasure out of this beautiful game as possible. I see someone that says this one way is how to do it. I kinda shake my head a little. Weather they have a lower score than me or not. I believe in experiencing the game. Not the lowest score I can or I’m pissed. You my friend have not only a well rounded game but you really enjoy yourself. I can see it. I’ve been playing for 26 years. I’ve watched all different Disc Golfer on UA-cam from the beginning to of the platform started. Still watch some, some I can’t fuckin stand. You are becoming a favorite. I thought about it today. The one reason I throw is to watch the disc do what humans have been obsessed with for ever. Fly. So many angles. They call a throw a patent pending because so many of us figured out on our own how to step out correctly and shape that shot. Now I’m rambling. Keep it up kid I think it’s good shit.
MY MAN! When I learned my forehand I did it on a Raptor and a Stal, overstable forehand starters for the win. It started as a utility throw for me and now is a staple of my game.
Thank you! I’ve never thrown forehand because I couldn’t understand how to get snap and I kept wrecking my elbow when I tried. I paused the video half way through and proceeded to bomb the longest forehands I’ve ever done.
Great vid man. Way to break it down into layman terms without getting super technical like most people do. I’ve been working on mine, but can only sneak it out to about 300 ft. Looking to improve and I think some of these tips will help. Also, your response to the guy honking at you had me dying. 😂
Quite late but this came up on my suggested videos today. That stomp forehand is where I found success. I came from ultimate frisbee and the pivoting, planting, and flicking around a defender motion translated really well to that stomp flick motion.
This is what I needed. I was like this dude needs to make a forehand video because his forehand is butter! Lol I also think it’s easier to throw a overstable over a understable for a forehand lol
Elbow leading was a great tip, I think the only thing that's more / as important is to make sure your fingerprints are flat against the rim of the disc. I feel like so many beginners / iffy forehanders have their fingerprints on the bottom of the flight plate & their range of motion in their wrist is basically non existent. You will never have a decent forehand until you get those fingers square on the rim
Damn I need more Coach Brod, This was the most helpful forehand video Ive watched. Totally nailed it with the 150' upshot being an easy (literally my go to upshot) but trying to throw one off the tee and it was hot fuckin garbage. Going out today to try what you were saying. I'm in the process of rebuilding my forehand and my buddy has been preaching to lead with the elbow and to be more fluid. I think he's onto something! Awesome video, man.
Well you lead with your hips and the elbow is behind your hip, creating the lag. If you lead with your elbow first before your hip you gonna have some problems lol. Ryan Sheldon does a good job explaining it. Man launches 600 ft forehands
@@sillyz9578 I guess in my mind it’s impossible not to lead with the hips so I emphasized the elbow more because in terms of arm motion you want elbow before hand🤝 but yes. Also Ryan fucking launches forehands.

I just started throwing forehand. Most discs feel uncomfortable except for 7 speeds. Teebird and Grackle are my favorite. The 2 courses I play, both have obstacles on hole 1. One has a tree reaching over the middle I tend to hit. The second has a couple trees that I also tend to hit, and disc kick to right into someone's fenced yard with a big dog, much like The Sandlot.
Dude this is the first video that ive seen of yours and I absolutely loved it and your whole style and just breakdown and kinda free flowing persona all together! Awesome all the way around! Great job!
Took me the last 3 months to get to 250ft with a forehand. You pretty much have summed up what I learned. All this bullshit on UA-cam about serving pizzas and elbow against your body don't work. Just keep arm loose and flick. The part about the stutter step is legit, I was good for 150ft standstill but as soon as I started moving it was a mess... I'm able to do a slow walk up stutter step and get that 250ft... great video.

Not sure where the shade is coming from. I'll be 40 in Nov and just started disc golf in July. I know that this style of communication isn't for everyone but I found it relatable and honest. Also, it's important to share that a study done by the University of Cambridge showed that researchers say that if you swear a lot, you're likely an honest person. So, not only do I think that this is a great video full of excellent advice that actually helped me work on and fix my forearm form, but I also learned that swearing at cars is hilarious.
i think what were really missing is more arm wrestling videos! and maybe some reviews of random shit thrown in! that would really hit the spot! shame no channels do both 🤔
Wow man, I have a kinda forehand but never off the tee. But I was so excited after watching this video that I went out like 12 with my glow discs to go try it lol. Now my forehand feels awesome. Thank you daddy brode 🤝
I throw flippy discs forehand for one main reason; it's easier on my surgically repaired shoulder. Coming over the top a little using something like a firebird just puts a lot of strain on the joint. Throwing something under stable like a sidewinder causes no pain at all and requires little effort for good distance.
100% if you have the ability to flick Flippy stuff you should. I just think for the person who has little to know knowledge or skill with the forehand, some neutral/stable is best so actually see improvement and enjoy the process.
I have multiple vids of different forehand styles I've tried since Feb '23. I'd test out different styles I'd seen on other DG channels. You have a way with words, sir! I haven't figured out my forehand walk up yet, so I'll start with the "Stomp" (shortcut to that 9:20) & you can watch later in the month for progress 🤝👋
That was awesome. People make shit way too complicated. I got more out of watching that than I could get from half a dozen jack-ass step-by-step videos. 😂
I enjoyed this lol love the personality come thru. Forehands are a little painful for me with a plate and 9 screws in my throwing arm but are so satisfying. Gonna try to use the stomp method to learn it better :)
Lots of great stuff here. Forehand dominant ex baseball player. I especially appreciate your beginner disc selection. I always suggest slightly overstable fairways. FD, Volt, Teebird, Evader, etc. I started with a Barsby Roadrunner. When I found the Volt my learning process really sped up. I’m trying to learn to control the flippy stuff now. Took me about a year to get to where I was really ready for that.
The one foot stomp is what I’ve been doing. Way back in the day I pitched sidearm in baseball and it makes it easier for me. I’m still trash but it’s serviceable.
I've been watching videos on UA-cam for a while trying to learn a forehand. It's been complete shit!nothing i tried felt right or made since. Your video is the 1st to click for me. Thanks for breaking it down in a way this idiot can understand. Now, I just need to keep practicing.
Forearm/wrist/elbow exercises man. Gotta build up the muscles that are throwing the disc. Simple extensions and zottman curls with light weight. I’ll actually have a video covering more on this with my PT coming in the next week or two🤝
Agreed, starting to learn forehand with flippy discs is total trash advice. All discs will fly more understable forehand vs backhand because forehand imparts less spin relative to the throw speed. Brian Earhart has a really good vid on forehand fundamentals on the discraft channel. I mainly throw my zone and thunderbird for forehands, because they make it easy. But, I will also layup a Pure, Mako3, or Bounty with nothing more than a wrist flick. Anything more and they turn over from too much speed to spin.
Glad you could take something from it. Like I said I’m not a coach but I figured for someone with a good knowledge and ability of the forehand I figured if I just said what goes through my mind with it some people could find it useful 🤝
I like your style. Great video. I suck at forehands. They just hurt, every time. This one inspired me to try again. Maybe it's not in the cards for me, but I'll find out.
The fundamentals you talked about early in the video are correct. There are different run-ups, different wind-ups, different grips, but in the end you are just flicking it out there.
My form is between the "stomp" and the Paul McBeth/Adam Hammes windmill; but, I throw 400ft and I'm 56, so IDGAF! 😂 I'm an old baller, and agree with everything you said here. Great job on the vid!
I started playing about 5 weeks ago. my backhand has improved so much but I just can't figure out forehand. When I put no shoulder/power and just flick it I get a nice smooth throw but once I start trying to get any distance it is terrible. I've watched so many videos and have thrown well over 100 shots trying to get a feel for it but I'm so lost. I know my form is fucked because after a practice session my shoulder hurts a bit.
everything youve said here is absolutely correct, id like to say im in the big forehand club (420ish max) and have done almost all of this stuff to get to that point, but i love to flex discs instead of flip stuff up haha
To each there own🤝 if you got the big flex and it works then it works, I’d just say for someone starting from scratch the flip up or flat release is the way to go🤝
Do you squeeze the thumb against the forefinger so there is a pinch point or is the thumb just pushing down over the rim/plate edge or just pressing in on nothing? Thanks for posting.
It’s more of a loose natural feel for me, I’m not really pressing down into anything in particular I’m just holding it in whatever way feels most comfortable 🤝 definitely don’t over press with the thumb IMO.
I was a baseball player my entire life. My baseball friends that play disc golf always tell me to just pretend I’m throwing a baseball but angle your body. Needless to say, I cannot figure out how to properly throw a forehand. I always roll my wrist over, even with the most stable discs
Imo throwing a baseball and a forehand have very little correlation. It’s honestly more valuable to compare your forehand to you’re baseball swing as the body moves very similar. Like you said a lot of baseball players tend to only develop that chop over forehand that is basically useless.
Trying to push it far but ending up unintentional anhyzer or even roller is so me🤣 I think it's at least partially mental thing for me. 150ft approaches which ask for just a wrist flick is no problem at all but when I have to drive it 300 I get all tensed up and really trying to push it which doesn't end well. I will definitely try to concentrate to just being loose and let the body flow and not let myself get distracted by the distance of the basket
10:21 Going in slow motion, and seeing your arm, I wish my shoulder would let me drive my elbow first like that. I want to throw forehand so badly, but I just don't think my body is designed to do it. Currently I throw my forehand from a sideways position to get a little bit of lag across my body because I can't bend my hand behand my shoulder. Do you think this is a viable way to generate some generic lag in my arm and at least get 200' or is this just a waste of time and should just focus on solid back hand turnover floaters?
Some people’s body just isn’t made for it, and that’s part of the is game. Strengthening and flex ability can help but that’s not something everyone is willing to do. Just gotta find something that your body allows you to do🤝
With your style, the flip up one, it looks like you roll the wrist at the end. How does it not just turn and burn? Or am I understanding it wrong? Great video btw. I generally use the Paul style but I am Excited to try out the other two. The stomp style always looked good to me but I’ve never really seen it explained. Thanks for the vid!!!
I’d say with my form the part where I look like I roll it over is more of my follow through and not my actual release. The disc is already out of my hand when I “roll over”
This ministers to my soul. I’m a forehand main but I’m losing my game a little bit since I don’t go out much. But if I don’t overthink I have the potential to be an absolute dog
Not even half way through the video and I've learned more than most other videos on forehands. I realized recently why my forehand is shit is due to my index finger. It wants to be the star of the show and my middle finger just falls out of the way, then the index finger throws the sickest 30 foot forehand roller you've ever seen. Any tips on that?
Nice video, seems like the distance is effortless and technique not to hard on the elbow thinking about injuries. Next coach Broderic video, how to hyzerflip with Alex Geisinger?🔥Would love the content and walk through! Keep it up!
BROTHER YES god i hate hearing that "learn to flick flippy discs" Someone who's learning is gonna immediately hate flicking and never try it again if they try flicking a DX cobra right out the gate. The skill will come. Go for practicality first, then go flippy as you get better

Wow man, I have a kinda forehand but never off the tee. But I was so excited after watching this video that I went out like 12 with my glow discs to go try it lol. Now my forehand feels awesome. Thank you daddy brode 🤝
That’s what I like to hear🤝
So, as someone who does suck at forehand throws, this actually got me pointed in the right direction. Appreciate it.
Loved the comparison of the 3 styles, it helped some concepts click in my brain as I've only started throwing forehand over the past year or two.
Definitely give it a try🤝
That was awesome. People make shit way too complicated. I got more out of watching that than I could get from half a dozen jack-ass step-by-step videos. 😂
I enjoyed this lol love the personality come thru. Forehands are a little painful for me with a plate and 9 screws in my throwing arm but are so satisfying. Gonna try to use the stomp method to learn it better :)
Thanks for the spirit of forehand! Brilliant and inspirational video!
Frisbee Clubs hats, shirts and stamps?? Absolutely. But Frisbee Club bag patches 👀 give it a thought Brod
I like the idea🤝
I’m 100% behind this
frisbee club shammies?
Lots of great stuff here. Forehand dominant ex baseball player. I especially appreciate your beginner disc selection. I always suggest slightly overstable fairways. FD, Volt, Teebird, Evader, etc. I started with a Barsby Roadrunner. When I found the Volt my learning process really sped up. I’m trying to learn to control the flippy stuff now. Took me about a year to get to where I was really ready for that.
Takes a little while to dial in that Flippy stuff🤝
@@broderic I’m getting pretty good with my flippy Envy and my Sol. Haven’t quite figured out consistency with flippy fairways yet.
This was awsome!!! I needed to be talked to like that. I subscribed. Too funny man.
This was a great video, I’m going to try to put it into action tomorrow when I go practice. Thank you very much..!!!
The one foot stomp is what I’ve been doing. Way back in the day I pitched sidearm in baseball and it makes it easier for me. I’m still trash but it’s serviceable.
Just gotta slowly incorporate more into it and take it up a notch🤝
I've been watching videos on UA-cam for a while trying to learn a forehand. It's been complete shit!nothing i tried felt right or made since. Your video is the 1st to click for me. Thanks for breaking it down in a way this idiot can understand. Now, I just need to keep practicing.
Swapping between the different styles with such ease was pretty crazy to watch. Coach Brod gud.
Thanks🤝 I honestly impressed myself🤷🏽♂️
1000+ rated video for sure. Any advice for a player that stopped throwing sidearm due to elbow pain?
Forearm/wrist/elbow exercises man. Gotta build up the muscles that are throwing the disc. Simple extensions and zottman curls with light weight. I’ll actually have a video covering more on this with my PT coming in the next week or two🤝
Great forehand guide! If only we had one like this for putting...
I’ll make…. Oh wait….😂 if only man🤝
Agreed, starting to learn forehand with flippy discs is total trash advice.
You get it🤝
Honestly some good points I hadn't thought about when trying to develop my forehand
Maybe it's not in the cards for me, but I'll find out.
elbow pain?
@@Ghaulmylvahvai Both elbow and shoulder
Best forehand demo on youtube.
The fundamentals you talked about early in the video are correct. There are different run-ups, different wind-ups, different grips, but in the end you are just flicking it out there.
Broderic is a disc golf national treasure🇺🇲
My man🤝
My form is between the "stomp" and the Paul McBeth/Adam Hammes windmill; but, I throw 400ft and I'm 56, so IDGAF! 😂 I'm an old baller, and agree with everything you said here. Great job on the vid!
Sounds like you know what you’re doing🤝
What do you think about Tamm? I normaly visualize him when I throw, lock the arm back from the get go and pull throw straight.
Excellent insights my caked up disc golf guy. Based, hyzer-pilled content the masses won't get to see. We are blessed.
Not totally sure what all of this means but thanks🤝
Snarf Snarf O'Bannon would approve
@@stever5305 OK I dunno what this one means...
Popped up on my home page fyi! W! Me & U would be homies for sure lmaoooo
Just hangin out chuckin frisbee🤝
An early 3k sub gift. Keep it up brother! Can't wait for those trucker Frisbee club hats
My man, trashcan. Appreciate it🤝
I started playing about 5 weeks ago. my backhand has improved so much but I just can't figure out forehand.
To each there own🤝 if you got the big flex and it works then it works, I’d just say for someone starting from scratch the flip up or flat release is the way to go🤝
@@broderic flat is hard sometimes, when I'm teaching people how to forehand I also tell them to throw a baseball like you're Tim Tebow on the gators 😂
Ok. I'm very impressed how well you can throw forehand 3 different ways! You totally have the feel down. I can't feel it in 1 way😢
Actually really helpful been trying to learn front hands, also looking for a good bag to get if anyone has any suggestions for me
Glad I could help🤝 if you looking for a large tournament style bag. Check out my link in the bio for the bergs bag v3🤝
You went fully Boston after that honk, I love it
Love it man, thank you, keen to practice tomorrow
Glad you could take something useful from it🤝
Trying to push it far but ending up unintentional anhyzer or even roller is so me🤣 I think it's at least partially mental thing for me.
Just gotta find something that your body allows you to do🤝
The bread and butter are discs with 9/5/-1/2
Facts🤝
This is the guy i would want coaching me. Real eyes realize. Keep it real people.
That is a nice course. Subscribed for sure. Great info on throwing stable disks for practice. Thank you.
The power grip on forehand definitely feels powerful, but the couple times I’ve used it, it makes my hand hurt so bad.
Power grip feels so miss to me🤝
Great video, would love a deeper dive for a more advanced forehand
To be honest this is about as deep as it gets for me😂
This is perfect. Subbed
Appreciate 🤝
Great video but I feel like coach Brod would emotionally wreck me 😂
Nice video, seems like the distance is effortless and technique not to hard on the elbow thinking about injuries. Next coach Broderic video, how to hyzerflip with Alex Geisinger?🔥Would love the content and walk through! Keep it up!
Thanks for watching 🤝
“You’re gonna already improve your forehand by realizing not to throw it like a jackass” 😂😂😂
BROTHER YES
god i hate hearing that "learn to flick flippy discs"
Someone who's learning is gonna immediately hate flicking and never try it again if they try flicking a DX cobra right out the gate.
The skill will come. Go for practicality first, then go flippy as you get better
You get it🤝
Don't forget.....be an athlete. A mantra we should all live by
