Hiya , I,ve done this sort of work on my own mower many times , it,s a bit different to yours , CM185H , here it,s recommended to use power harrow gearbed grease , ( EP-00 gel grease ) & fill up to halfway up the lateral shaft , I drilled a hole in the lid 3/4 along towards the outside drum , got my excellent local machinist to make a steel boss that I migged on , & it accepts both , a land - rover axle breather , & also , the threaded end of a grease gun hose , so I can pump in 3 gunfuls of gel grease every pre - season checkover , ( dip it with a thin rod if you,re concerned about overgreasing it ) , check the bearings & seals while you,re in there , more involved work , but well worth it in the long run . We can still get Timken bearings here , bearing in mind the amount of work these do , & how much downtime is one nuisance when you need the mower , these are all I will fit .
Belts ; I have been told ,( by the same engineer that supplies me with the bearings & seals ) to only ever fit a matched set when replacing multiple belt sets like this , just thought it might help , as the stretch factor in them is equal . Best of luck , Happy Spanners .

You seem to have the common sense needed to help..... I have a pz 168 repair situation and will try to make the question
short w/background. Helping a friend whose brother in law disassembled the mower w/both drum shafts needing
repair. He had parts and gearbox parts scattered everywhere…he died and left my friend to rebuild before hay
season. No manual, we round up all parts, got both shafts repaired, and assembling. After assembling and installing the drum assemblies
in the gearbox and starting assembly of the gear shaft….the drum shafts are hitting the gear shaft w/the gear nuts tight.
We think there is a spacer above the axial load bearing that is missing…raising the shaft up too much…not having any type of manual and have never seen a drum
mower….does make assembly somewhat difficult….so we ordered the spacer mentioned and now the question…the drum shaft nut needs to be tightened or just adjusted and locked to keep from hitting the gearbox shaft….Thanks…

@@waynerawls4616 Hello , are you sure you have the model number for this mower dead right ? as I,ve never heard of a P.Z. 168 ! , but , I,ll try , It,s possible you still have some shims missing from under the spacer pack , as when something doing the sheer speed in R.P.M. these do eventually gives up , everything gets smashed before it can wind down & stop , this is why your P.T.O. slip clutch is vital ; it saves the tractor,s P.T.O. system , not the mower ! O. K. let me have a look close up at what you,ve got , do a good quality video of it all , on a camcorder , not your phone , as the lens is the critical bit for picture sharpness , then put it up on here , show the problems you have clearly , I,ll study it & see what I can make of it , I,m not Merlin , I,m just an inspired spannermonkey , been fixing mainly M-F machines since I was 14 , now in my 60,s . I,m also doing my own hay , shearing etc , so keep the faith . Enable me to quickly find your vid on here please , as it might be 11.0p.m. one evening when I get to it , Best Regs( p.s. some Land-rover axles , G.K.N. Salisbury heavy duty types had a collapsible bush keeping the 2 tapered bearings on the drive pinion apart , to keep the pre-load exact , you might just have an arrangement like this ,) also , tap in to your search engine "P.Z. CM 168 handbook" , let it run , & you might come across a handbook for it , or the images of one,s pages , worth a try .

Hi Wayne. The drum shaft gear retaining nut should be tight if memory serves. That said I don't have a torque spec to offer you. It seems like Phillip who also commented might be able to shed some more light on the situation with his years of experience. Sorry for the late reply!

I be thinking the nut being welded is a problem, should there be some backlash?

Liam Byrne yes there should be backlash. The nut was tack welded on by a previous owner to prevent the nut from backing off. So if you need to take it apart again in the future grind off a couple tacks and then the nut and gear should come off. Thanks for the comment.

How do you change the belts

Hello Jamesc, sorry guess I don't check the comments that often. I don't recall off hand now, however one of the pulley sets must have an adjustment on it to to set the tension. As it is a multiple belt arrangement a "matched set" has to be purchased. I've since sold the unit so don't recall off hand at the moment.
