Hi and Thanks for sharing! Sorry a bit late to the party! Would love to see an in depth overview of the different methods of dating your Keris if you can Please sir. Recently became the custodian of what I believe is 1500's example and I have been fascinated with what I have learnt so far! I am quite smittened officially became a collector today after my first purchase of a not so old one this morning. Have little idea how to differ between the many physical features of the Keris over its life line. Thanks again for making this content.
Hello there friend. Congratulations and welcome to the fascinating world of keris collecting. I believe a generic guide I have shared in one of my videos but nonetheless an interesting topic to revisit. I will be touching on this in upcoming videos. Do keep a look out for it. For the moment I am tied down with projects that require my attention. I will be back posting videos again soon. 😊 - JoFe.
@@TheKerisCollector I am now a collector I found another today I believe to be a Malay Pangang that needs some love too! Hope you and your family are well and look forward to continuing to view your older stuff, Thanks again.
As moro. Kalis is also used for ceremony and identity of the royalties such as Sultan, Datu, Sharif, buranon and panglima. The wave symbolize the status and ukkir in the sheats and scabbard

Salam from Singapore. This video wasn’t so great. One of my early uploads where I messed up on a technical level. Forgot to check that my mic cable was plugged in to the correct input jack. 😂 End up the audio was picked up from the onboard camera instead. I will re-visit this subject again in a future video with better audio quality. - Jofe.
thanks for this! just curious- does the Keris Picit necessarily fall into the Keris Kerisan category? Or have there been cases where such keris have been known to have non-talismanic uses (e.g. for ceremony or combat)?
There are two answers to this question. Traditionally a keris pichit serves as an extension of a manifestation for a specific purpose for a specific individual, made by a devout empu or master pandai besi. Naturally these blades are worth more to a collector for their intrinsic value and accepted as a keris for “talismanic” and “ceremonial” use. On the other hand modern reproductions attempt to emulate the pichit style but lack its esoteric values. These will be categorised as keris kerisan and are worthless to knowledgeable collectors. Then again, there are various schools of thought on this. Pick one that resonates with you. 😊 - JoFe.
The content of the video was great, but the subscribe and hit the bell thing that kept coming up and making a horrendous noise ensured I will avoid your videos in the future.
But the oldest examples we have of Keris Sundang/Kalis come from Sulawesi dating back to the mid Majapahit period. If they were traded back then how come there aren’t any examples in the Philippines that date to the same time period or older. The oldest I could find from the Philippines just date to the 18th century. Even examples from Malaysia date to the late Majapahit to early Mataram period. The origin of the Keris Sundang or Kalis is still up for debate though so it’s not yet definite.
Dyus mio the classical Malay World extends all the way to Madagascar, sundangs are not exclusive to the Philippines. Iron is available everywhere. In fact Kris are locally made everywhere you just have to find the artist or blacksmith.
@@cancertheindancest3727 there is though which is discovered in Butuan in northern mindanao dating back to the srivijaya period. There is also a large kris found in bohol dating back to the early iron age. Which concludes that kris has already stepped foot into the philippine islands.
Amazing video sir!!! Thank you for your initiative! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you sir. 🙏
I also noticed that the straight Sundang is easier to sharpen than the waved Sundang. These are the 2 types of old Sundang I see displayed in homes
I love keris tempur. Simple , long , sharp , stiff and light.
Simple, elegant yet deadly in skilled hands. 😊 -JoFe.

Kalis IS made from Moro Philippines though because there are evidences of trade where they sold it back to malaysia, borneo and indonesia as Sundang.
