It would be interesting to see the consistency of yardage from a forged iron head vs hollow & foam filled heads. I play off 7 but am getting older and will want more forgiveness but without giving up the accuracy of distance with a forged head. This video was very useful 👌🏻

I recently demoed both Callaway and Mizuno irons.
    I selected the Apex DCB.
Why? With the performance being pretty much equal, I just liked the feel and looks better. These are all quality products and all perform well.
In someways there are too many choices😜.
My only recommendation is try multiple brands of clubs and within each brand try different models.
    You might be surprised.
    Thanks for the video!

Don't let the marketing fool you. The DCB's are excellent even for low handicappers. The only real difference one will notice is the bit more offset of the DCB vs. the 21's..both are amazingly accurate and can shape shots well. You also get forgivable distance with the dcb's. Love these clubs. BTW, many pro's are moving towards more forgiving irons and leaving blades in the dust.

I just purchased a full set of the Apex 2012 DCB irons with graphite shafts based my tests of a 7 iron. Definitely easier to hit than my Epic forged irons which have longer shafts and stronger lofts. I hope I made a good decision. I can play them year round here in SW Florida.

I found that Mizuno’s MB HMB tick all the boxes for me. Played around with a mixed set but ended up 3-9 in HMB, PW in MB to blend into the T20 wedges. Love them and find all the irons pretty easy to hit. Look great for sure

  • @rogerhill99

What is interesting to me is the launch angle, descent angle and peak height. All are higher with the Callaway, even though the loft is less. Surely this is the crucial point, ignore the number on the club, even the loft, look at the descent angle.

Mid-handicapper. Upgraded to the DCB's after my srixon hand-me-downs were stolen. Had my eyes set on some pings and mizuno models but decided on these after a fitting. They are a bit more clunky looking and feeling compared to the other brands and superficially I think the minimalist designs of the other brands are sexier but the DCB's outperformed and felt better than the other clubs for me. The heavier feeling heads help me create lag and are great for my swing speed. Will continue to side-eye those sexier designs but love the feel, performance, and sound of the DCB's.

The DCB’s are a hell of an iron. I really like how the set is progressive in that the shorter irons don’t have a ton of bounce/width but the whole set has tons of help. They also look rather pleasing from the topline even though they’re on the thicker side.

I don't think these 2 clubs are going to be considered by the same shopper. The Callaway is a definite game improvement club, with the thick topline, relatively wide sole, and generous offset. The Hotmetal and Hotmetal Pro would be the most comparable Mizuno products. The 921 Forged is more of a players distance club and will be compared to clubs like the ZX5, p770, Apex, and maybe the G425.

I’ve now owned both so can compare. BB21 was easy to hit with great ball flight but they were chunky & heads felt heavy somewhat unbalanced with the graphite shafts I had but for a slow swing speed they played excellent but the offset & chunky heads was the main downside albeit good clubs. The Apex DCBs I now have feel more balanced & give more feedback with a thinner head & less offset. I had Proj X Catalyst 65 shafts on BB21 & now have SteelFibre fc80 on the Apex & the whole club is more balanced. Easier to get distance out of BB21 but the Apex DCB feels & looks nicer all round. BB21 slightly cheaper but not much. I’d say if older with slow swing the BB21 easier to launch but I’m a slow swing after strokes and still getting a lovely launch of DCBs & they just look amazing. Both fab clubs but I’m happier with DCB. Only disadvantage of DCB is they chip easier in bag with chatter so I use head covers whereas BB21s never marked chattering in bag.
