A 30 minute video to celebrate 30k subs, how appropriate. Massive congrats & a really good video too! I like that you also included so many examples because there are a lot of visual learners that may struggle to look at that table & straight away be able to throw their charge moves at the correct timing. Hopefully Niantic can fix the game during this season, because otherwise it almost feels like a waste of time learning all the proper charge move timings in different scenarios, when fast move denial is a thing & can be used more effectively depending on connection to the server. The fact that you & many others refer to a fast move going through on alignment as a "sneak" shows that fast move denial is almost expected in that scenario. On top of that, lag & desync can mean that what should be optimimal move timing, ends up being a turn or 2 out of sync & you give away an entire free fast move anyway.
You're such an asset to the community. This whole time I thought throwing on good timing was about denying moves coming through, which is partially true, but the better angle to look at it from that I learned after watching this video is that it's about maximizing your energy gain, and energy management, and minimizing your opponent's energy gains.
I needed this video so badly. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been mind boggled that I some how get outpaced in a mirror match where I started with an extra hit or two.
As a south American player, that sneak-in disparity still very much exists - which is why we are all very excited for this new update. I play the game every day and just don't think that's up for debate at all at this point. Also, in my experience, opponents are almost guaranteed to sneak if i throw a charge move as I'm getting the energy for it (though i can't say for sure). And on a lighter note, thank you for always being such a great resource for the community! Creators like you are a big reason why this game can be what is it today :)
One more fast move timing topic is damage timing. Every move has a 1 turn delay. So for example we call incinerate a 5 turn move, but in reality it is a 4 move turn with a 1 turn delay (confusion is 3+1, bubble is 2+1, counter is 1+1, lick is 0+1). Why this is important is that damage registers at the end of the fast move but before the delay. So if you are throwing with the proper timing described in this video you will take the damage before you throw your charge move. Where this is important is if the fast move would KO your Pokémon, or if your charge move will KO their Pokémon. So for example if you are running counter vs charm and you throw after 4 counters you will take the 3rd charm damage. If you were to throw after 3 counters you would only take 2 charm’s worth of damage if your charge move KO’s. Alternatively if you throw 1 counter before KO’ing with your charge move you will take 1 charm worth of damage because the damage registers on turn 2. If you were to throw 2 counters then throw you would still only take 1 charm damage as your charge move starts on turn 4 and the damage would register on turn 5. So in this case throwing after 2 counters just gives you one extra counter’s worth of energy for the next Pokémon without you taking any additional damage. Once again this is only true if the charge move KO’s the Pokémon, otherwise the damage from that second charm will register once your charge move finishes
Geez it is all so complicated. The details and mechanics of Pokémon Go are amazing. I’m sure eventually I’ll get better at timing but it could be a while.
First of all, huge congratulations on 30k. What a cool accomplishment. Second, this video is absolutely amazing. The way you broke everything down is extremely helpful. This type of stuff is what takes the average player to the next level for sure
This was very enlightening and super helpful. I knew I always threw on alignment, but I didn't know what I could do to counter it. Congrats on 30k! Excited to see your stream tomorrow!
Reis, great video. One point you don’t expressly mention that is important would be that counting for move timing resets after either person throws a charge move or (I believe) if either person swaps out a pokemon. This is different then counting fast moves so you know how much energy your opponent has and when they would reach the energy needed for a specific charge move.
First thing first, let's establish that we international players think you are awesome players, we don't say that you win just based on that. But also, realise we usually play against each other, when sneaks occur 95-100% of the time, not 50%, I swear. So I remember competing against California in gymbreakers, I didn't sneak a single move and my rival always threw in aligment. Remember, the sneaks here are 95-100% (unless, you know, desync happen and stuff) This is crucial in mirror matches. I lost hardcordly, I didnt even have a chance. Does that make california guys less of hell of a players? For sure not. Does it make the match unfair? Wouldn't say that word, but that was an advantage for sure, particularly in matches when a lot of mirror matches are involved in some metas. What we ask for is consistency and a plain field, not "because USA gets an advantage", we still think the USA players are awesome. Also to be noted, whenever I play against Indian players, they are still amazing, but I get a clear advantage cause they never ever sneak so I have an advantage, does it make me a better player than indian players? For sure not. Is it unfair? well, wouldn't go that far, but I do have an advantage. Just don't listen to the haters, you USA players are magnificent players we don't think you win just based on that
This was a great video. For some of us that don't play as much, we have to study up (or have pvpoke open) to know how many turns certain fast moves are.
This video was very helpful, a little studying It will take, but hey I took the Screenshot and the video is here for me to come back to watch if I need to, thx Reis!!!
Yu shout casted my Delphox battles the other day just wanted to say I could count moves already( granted I learned from watching various creators including yourself) but this video definitely gave me a better understanding. Congrats on 30k subs my man! I watch quite a few different content creators for PVP and imo you're the best in the game right now. Your mix of educational commentary, your breakdowns, while also having some nice hype when the time calls for it. I look forward to your videos everytime they come out! Also I still feel the need to dance to your intro everytime I hear it 🤣 Great information in the video too! As a relatively experienced player (3-time legend, not at leaderboard level) I still found myself learning a lot in this video. Having it all broken down was great and I enjoy how you also explain the scenarios where you want to break from the mold. That's what makes you the best in the game. I look forward to seeing the channel grow even more!
rooting for you since the first vid i saw. i hope you find a way to make this your job. you can see the passion you have and that makes your content always enjoyable. Congratz on the 30k. and lets go for more!
Nice video, charge move timing is where I struggle really. I usually try and throw for fast move denial. For example, I usually throw right when the Azu throws its 6th bubble for CMP tying. And I do this regardless of if I have Counter on Machamp or mud shot on my Swampert.
How does this work with the new update where everyone is allowed to sneak? Don't you want to throw on alignment now when you're anticipating your opponent to throw as well?
That’s all right Reis 😉 but just theory… players swap in/out, lot of lags, opponent kicks chargemoves and denial yours. For 1turn moves I don’t count, I use the whole necessary turns for the charge attack for counting. Sometimes more sometimes less… depends on leagues/cups. But finally you are a much better player😉as me. I mostly struggle by swap outs, new counting… should I throw for chip or is it wasted cause unnecessary for the next match up… and all happens in seconds.
Hey @Reis2TheOccasion or someone else can clarify or explain this please? For example, Talonflame as opponent (5-turn Incinerate move). I am struggling to understand what it means to time such a way that you give opponent "just one turn of energy". If I threw my charge move at 19 turns, by that time Talon would have already completed 3 Incinerates (banked 3 x 20 = 60 energy). They are just one turn shy of the next Incinerate. 1 turn energy for Talon means 20 / 5 = 4, correct? Does it mean they will only add 4 energy to their energy bank to make it 64? As opposed to, if I throw on alignment at 20 turns, in addition to they completing 4 Incinerates damage, they would bank 4 x 20 = 80 energy?
Even in a non ELO season i'm really getting frustrated and discouraged. Every time i get a little success, I hit a huge skid. I'm ready to throw in the towel. :(

Hello Rise, Thank you for this video man, very helpful, I have a question, how can i combine or what kind of exercise/technique can i make in order to count my opponent's fast move and time my charge moves? Congrats for the 30k!

It is kind of hard to master, once I started trying to use this technique I started even losing lot of elo since I misscounted a lot, but once I mastered the technique it is just "business as usual" and the control I have of the matches just comes natural
You do know that part of the changes to improve the game is changing the timing of the moves… so charge moves am fast moves don’t get mixed up! I don’t think this video will be used full after that fixed!

Can you do a vid on counting plus move timing? So I’m counting my moves to optimise my move timing, but how do I also count their moves and their energy at the same time?
@reis how do you manage counting your opponents fast moves(energy) while counting your own fast moves at the same time for optimal timing? Love the content and the vid! You are awesome!
Congrats on 30k !!!! Wd you mnd trying this team for the new meta of passion cup? Lead: Ariados Back: MILOTIC & electrode I had a lot of fun with the coverage and milotic really shines🤩
with extreme lag optimal move timing is impossible sadly, sometimes my pokemon just freezes when i try to throw and lets up to 3 free moves in before it actually throws
hey mate id like to clarify do we have to download the game DURING the sponsored stream or can i start playing it now because it seems like sth i wanna try
This happens alot with ariados and talonflame in love cup. It's interesting cuz the damage hits before the move is done so you. Can't throw 2 poison stings if you can't survive 1 inc. Cuz even though you get to the move first the damage counts. Is it always 1t before the move is done? How does 1t vs 2t damage work
When people say free turns on a 2+ turn fast move, what significance is that? Do you get partial fast move energy gain??? Like if you throw an Incinerate and your opponent uses a charged move 2 turns in, I get 2/5th the energy?
No you would get the energy and fast move damage for a FULL Incinerate (i.e., 5 turns worth of energy + the incinerate damage). That is why the fast move timing is so important - you are giving the opponent free energy and fast move damage!
I'll never understand the concept of turns. Giving up turns of energy and shit. Or rather i dont understand the textbook explenation of it. Like i do it all the time naturally and visually. I understand that im "sneaking" in extra energy to maximise my energy according to the opponent. But, ill never understand the actuall explenation behind it
Congrats on 30K Big Dog!! Much deserved!!

If you’re against a 1 turn move, you can count your moves.
When you lose a positive matchup due to poor timing that's when you learn, for me it was nido vs talon.
thx a lot for this video! will they ever fix that to work properly and never sneak a move or it will never gonna happen ?
So basically fast move divided by charge move carry the turn equals Ham

I had a lot of fun with the coverage and milotic really shines🤩
with extreme lag optimal move timing is impossible sadly, sometimes my pokemon just freezes when i try to throw and lets up to 3 free moves in before it actually throws
Please help me understand why the proper timing for a 5-turn fast move versus a 3-turn fast move is (1,5) and not (1,4)
that was the one mistake in this video it is indeed 1, 4 (5t vs 6t, 20t vs 21t)
can some1 tell me if u have energy for two moves back to back you take damage between the 2 charged moves??
I've been doing the opposite, throwing on even numbers lol.
Hey Reis, do you have a schedule over number of quickmoves it takes to get to chargemoves for different pokemons?
Not but pvpoke.com is a great resource for that
Sorry if this is a dumb question but are they not fixing this with this season?
Thank you very much!
hey mate id like to clarify do we have to download the game DURING the sponsored stream or can i start playing it now because it seems like sth i wanna try
You should be good to go!
This happens alot with ariados and talonflame in love cup. It's interesting cuz the damage hits before the move is done so you. Can't throw 2 poison stings if you can't survive 1 inc. Cuz even though you get to the move first the damage counts. Is it always 1t before the move is done? How does 1t vs 2t damage work
i just freeze the opponent’s screen if they are about to win with a gay pokemon like ariados. Better then sweating
interesting stuff ty man
When people say free turns on a 2+ turn fast move, what significance is that? Do you get partial fast move energy gain??? Like if you throw an Incinerate and your opponent uses a charged move 2 turns in, I get 2/5th the energy?
No you would get the energy and fast move damage for a FULL Incinerate (i.e., 5 turns worth of energy + the incinerate damage). That is why the fast move timing is so important - you are giving the opponent free energy and fast move damage!
Dig your channel man but please get a pop filter. Almost blew the speakers in my car lol
I know how it works and your Video is very well done but man this needs a lot of practice and memory
Still works with new update?
Need a website to practice all moves. Study all moves lol
It kinda sucks that one second of lag can disrupt the game.
I saw someone else's optimal charge timing video; table made no sense. Came to an older video that had a far better explanation :p
Can you please update the video after removal of fast move sneak?
Same rules apply!
Yes break it down bro
This is one of the things that pokeak needs to improve with his gameplay but wants to blame everything else as to why he doesn’t do good
What do you talking Boah?
Why do so many people with this fps restriction option. Just remove the mark in that option an the game runs so much more fluent 🤷🏻♂️
This looks so frustrating to learn.. i will better keep playing it for fun
Reis needs an Only Fans.
I'll never understand the concept of turns. Giving up turns of energy and shit. Or rather i dont understand the textbook explenation of it. Like i do it all the time naturally and visually. I understand that im "sneaking" in extra energy to maximise my energy according to the opponent.
But, ill never understand the actuall explenation behind it
I still don’t understand
