My idea is get a student visa. Learn the language, acclimate and truly consider if I want to woolly for the retirement visa. Single retired female, but lucky to have a good friend in Chiang Mai for decades now. Love your videos, have sure he’d and found so much great info! Thanks for the ideas and heads up! Best wishes.
Been watching your vids for the last week or so now. Great content, well presented and most importantly - its authentic (or at least it seems to be :P ) Thanks for the content! Really invaluable to those who are thinking/planning to do the move
you are a champion I am from Australia and wanting to stay in Thailand longer and I found your video very educational and informative thank you, you have a new like and sub.
hey Brett , random question but have you found a good barber for your beard I know most thai men dont have beards and im in colombia and the barbers here are artists lol ... and I havent seen too many expats with beards either but im just curious how it is. thanks love the channel
Great video. Do you know if after the year is up, can you do another education visa? Could you potentially stay in Thailand for years by renewing the student visa? Thanks
Hey mate, how Ya goin? Thanks for your great videos with awesome oil. Do you know any language school around Phuket town ? Like to do ED visa, I’m living in cape panwa. Thanks mate🙏
Another great video mate!!!! I am planning a move to Phuket in April and this was extremely helpful. Will be coming to Change Mai also, we'll need to get a beer when Im there. Thanks!
Hello, thank you so much for such an informative videos. I have a question related to education visa, do they have the minimum set of study hours per week or year that you need to be completed?
Thanks Brett. I'm a slow learner 😉, may I continue off the first education Visa onto another 1 year education visa? In other words, may someone continue going to thai language school for another year? How about continuing with education visas year after year with different programs (University courses, Combat, other...)? Thanks for your informative helpful content 😊
The tourist visa is 45 days now. Would it be best to do 45 + 30 extension, visa run, and do it again. Then get a multi entry visa for 6 months THEN a education visa for 2 years?
A great informative video, thanks, I'll be visiting Chiang Mai late January early February for a short holiday during the Chinese winter and spring festival break, fancy a beer??
Hello Brett, not sure if you will have a chance to read this... Can you go for 2 yearly Education visas back to back (or possibly more) ? I would love to study the language during the first year because it is a priority for me but I am very interested in learning Thai martial arts as well. I am planning on moving to Chiang Mai long term. Thank you for the content you put out. It really is great stuff and it definitely stands out from other channels.
It awesome very nice place for food and lots of nice fresh fruits healthy fruits. I love all the beautiful places in this place thank you for sharing your beautiful video very good.
Thanks Brett, i got a question. Say i want to come with my Kid (he's 6yo) for a year using the self defence Visa think its possible? as far as i know the language Visa doesn't apply for your kid..
You mentioned that you can't just keep going to Laos to get your visa. What about cycling through various other countries like Laos, Burma, Cambodia, etc?
You need to go to a country with a Thai consulate in order to apply for a Thai visa. The problem is not going to a country and applying for a visa but getting reject by Thai immigration when attempting to come back into the country. There is no way around it. You need to get a proper visa if you're going to stay in Thailand long term.
Yo Brett, thanks for all the vids helping out us brits thinking of coming over there. Out of interest what visa(s) did/do you currently use to stay and what sequence of visas did you use for the first few years you were over there, if you get what I mean? Did you get the Educational language one or keep doing METVs?
Good information, thanks. I know you said no questions however... How many education visas can you get and do you need to have certain amount of money in the bank like a retirement visa?
Handzy Efc The ED visa, I've seen schools offer up to 4 years, continuous. I saw that a few years, ago...just saw 3 years, the other day when I looked, online.
Again, like I mentioned in another comment. Take what the schools say with a pinch of salt. They are not immigration and won't take any blame for messing your visa situation up.
I NOTICE THAT THAILAND HAS A CHASE BANK, IF I HAVE A BANK ACCOUNT WITH CHASE HERE IN AMERICA, IS THERE ANY CHARGES TO THE ATM, THANKS I REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR VIDEOS
Hi Brett, for example I hold a one year multiple entry visa issued by a Thai Embassy in the USA, and as it is about to expire, can I renew it for another ONE YEAR, same as what I already have? Can I just do it inside Thailand or go outside?
I hate my life in England 🏴 hate it , I want to live & work in Thailand 🇹🇭 is it a possibility to do or realistically have I got more chance of living permanently in Thailand when I’m old enough to retire ?
I'm the same as you, i have a Thai girlfriend and i'm trying to find a job in Koh lanta Krabi it is very difficult because of most jobs are only for Thai people.
Hey Brett, Thanks for all of your hard work on these videos. I'm coming to Thailand next month to try and find a teaching job. Did you or anyone you know have to do a Thai background check to either teach or to get the Ed. visa? If so do you know how long that takes when in country? Thanks very much.
You wouldn't need a background check for an ed visa as this is for you to attend school as a student. If you're applying to become a teacher then yes, you will be background checked. If you have any other questions related to Chiang Mai Hester come on over and join our new Q&A community site at www.askchiangmai.com
Great video Brett!!! I'm tired of doing the visa runs and I'm moving to Bangkok from Chiang Mia. I'm sort of stuck between the education visa and self-defense. I would love to learn Thai but it doesn't give you the multi-entry visa so that my girlfriend and we can do some traveling. I can't seem to find any language schools in Bangkok that do the visa they all say Chiang Mai. Do you know of any?
Hey Brett...thank you so much for your videos. This one was extremely helpful. I'm currently putting my plans together for a trip there in the next couple of months. I'm going to interview for teaching positions while I'm there...It's something I have wanted to do for a very long time...I have a question that you might be answer, and I hoped that you would give it a go. Do you know what kind of background checks are needed for teaching positions there? Or if they require them at all? I have heard that sometimes they require them from your home country, translated into Thai. A local check is pretty easy and quick here in the US but a Federal, like through the FBI can take several months to receive . I just wanted to be prepared when applying.
Hi Brett Dev, I'm looking to go at the beginning of June but can't that option on the Embassy website (UK) are the 6 month multiple entry visa still available as far as you know or am I just blind?
@@brett_dev its up to 3 times, but with examen tests at the end of each.. the third time you will get tested you need to read and write the language.. so for the beginning 3 years is good, but too bad you cant stay forever as a farang if you dont own a shit ton of money
Hi Brett How many times do you think i can do a visa run? There´s some strategy to that? For instance , stay in another country for 3 months then coming back or at the first visa run they will block me? I´ll be arriving 14/08/2018 , and i tried to find out this kinda of info and failed =/. I would really appreciate your opinion on that.
They are legit, I know several people who are volunteering. It's a good option if you find something you like. There are for sure people doing it where the primary objective is the visa but they are also helping with something or other. You are not technically meant to pay to volunteer but I think that is a common enough model, you pay some sort of fee for it, or cover the paperwork costs.
I want to apply for an ED visa in my home country. The thing is that the website says it is only valid for up to 1 year. I fear that if I send the consulate in my country my passport it takes several weeks for them to return the documents to me. So I plan to send them the application form 4 weeks before departure. What would be the impact on the duration of the claimed year? Will the 'deadline' start when I enter Thailand or the consulate approves my visa proposal? They also want to know the 'Duration of Proposed Stay'. Can I fill this out with 365 days? ... Well, I guess I will call them in the next days and update my comment here.
Hi dude, I’m a foreign student living under student visa, currently studying in university, but I’m going to graduate university this year July and I need to learn Thai cause I’m gonna be living here long term. University said I have to cancel student visa after graduate so before I graduate should I go to language schools ?
I've heard of people studying Thai massage so I think it may be a possibility. Have a Google and if you find any good info please come back and share it :)
Hi Bret, can I just say all your videos are awesome and thank you so much for helping people out. I recently got my education visa and I'm due to fly to Thailand in 2 weeks but I have only booked a one way flight as I'm not sure whether I will be staying for 6 months or 9 months. I wanted to know if I'm required to have a return flight in order to pass immigration? or can I get away with not booking a return flight until I'm in thailand and in turn decided when I will be plan to return? If a flight out of the country is required, then I'm thinking that a cheap flight to cambodia should be good for me to pass through immigration that way they can see I have plans to leave the country? Or do you have any suggestions/recommendations? Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks R
I'm not sure mate. You'd have to ask the schools and then take that with a pinch of salt. The schools are not immigration and they'll just as quickly mess your situation up and take zero blame for it. I've heard some real bad stories over the years.
When your 6-month visa is about to expire, leave and come back a day or two before the end date. You'll have 2 more months and then you can extend for a further 30 days at immigration.
Best video about the visa matter I've seen so far.

Hello, thank you so much for such an informative videos. I have a question related to education visa, do they have the minimum set of study hours per week or year that you need to be completed?
Most schools it's like 2 hours twice a week. Some are lax about you showing up and others are aren't. Depends on the school.
Thanks for the info man, how are you staying even longer ? Do you renew an education visa or how do you make it work ?
Hey Brett, great video! Lots of useful information. Do you have any info on how intensely they test your school progress?

you can get the education visa ONCE, right?
