But we weren't and so the exercise was pointless. Why ruin the good times (and relationships) with something so futile and awful? He didn't even finish his (Mom wasn't the best of cooks).

It teaches kids to over-eat and ignore their own body signals. I get it thought, it's hard on the cook and wastes food otherwise. I was just picky. I come from a family of hunters and I just didn't wanna eat what they caught LOL! Especially when they prepped it all the time when I was around. haha!!

She hated meat back in the day unless it was cooked all the way to shoe leather where it no longer resembled anything bloody (or edible). Veganism etc was very uncommon back then, where we were. I thought I hated meat for most my childhood until I had a perfectly cooked rare steak; my whole world changed. I couldn't watch the prepping as a kid either but it did help prepare me for the culinary arts. I worked mostly in pastries but that didn't stop the other chefs from using my sinks to clean whole suckling pigs.🤮

My mom use to make us elderberry jelly, we would have to pick them, best jelly I have ever had, also the elderberry juice is great for cough and colds. Brought back some great childhood memories for me with the elderberries! Thank you.
My friend has elderberry bushes in her back yard. I started picking them and have been making elderberry jelly now for 5 years. It is my 15 yr old grandsons favorite!
My 7th great grandmother was married to Benjamin Franklin's grandfather. She was Franklin's step grandmother. They had children, my 6th great granduncle's and aunts were half siblings to Franklin's mother.

Wonderful content video as always. Sorry you were ill but glad to see you are recovering. When my son was nine we took him fishing for salmon in Sebago Lake. He caught a very small fish and we told him reel it in and we will set your line again. About halfway to shore a large salmon chomped his little fish. My son was crouching on the rocks on shore so the force of the salmon almost took him head first into the lake! Luckily his step-father was quick and grabbed him before he hit the water.

I’m with Ron! Although I will eat some good Fish and chips with tartar sauce when the mood strikes me! I’ll also eat smoked salmon! I live near Seattle so, seafood is never hard to find! My husband on the other hand will eat anything!
Elderberry is so good for colds. It’s a Great thing to take when sick. My favorite thing is to make a strong ginger tea with honey. Helps with coughs. It’s anti-inflammatory. For breathing problems cut and dice an onion and add to chicken stock & heat with grated ginger. Helps with colds too and breathing problems. Might make your throat calm down. Something so comforting about both drinks.

When you build your house, be sure to use a lot of Simpson ties since you live in the New Madrid earthquake area. I wonder if you had bronchitis. I resorted to one of those tiny bottles of brandy to stop the coughing. It helped. Cough syrup just didn't do the job. Take lots of vitamin D, niacin, NAC etc. so you won't get anything.
I had the same thing! I took elderberry and ginger tincutre. In the end I had to also do some acupressure techniques. so if you have trouble kicking that cough look some up and do it. Pleast take your elderberry two weeks on and one week off so your body does not acclimate to it and you dont get the effects you are taking it for. Love your chanel! You are both doing a great job!
Elderberry is wonderful!!! I have used dried berries for years to boil a tea. Adding some fresh ( or dried) peppermint leaf after taking off of boiling is great addition for congestion. Add the peppermint to strained elderberry tea either fresh leaves right in your mug or if using dried leaves add them directly to the berry water after it is stopped boilng , strain, I store mine in a mason jar in fridge for up to 3 days. It tastes good too. Add a bit of honey (even cold tea) and it's a tasty remedy. Happy you are feeling better! Now your body knows how to battle and win one more of those honery little germ/virus enemies! Plain Peppermit tea helps break up the gunk in lungs. I generally limit elderberry tea to 2 mugs every 24 hours..... much more than that might cause one to become "extra" regular. God bless you both and pet little MishMish!

You can root those elderberry bushes yourself. Take a branch cutting from your mature bush and make sure it had 3 bud nodules . Make sure you bury 2 deep nodules and leave one above the dirt keep watered. They will soon take root and you can reset in the ground.

How did they preserve leftovers? I have a suggestion for Christmas cards next year. ask people to send self-addressed and stamped envelopes. It will save you on money and you can make the chose to write personal message or make a pre stamp to use
I thought Ron would try it but I get it. I can't even smell seafood without feeling sick but there is only one that I will eat on occasion and that is shrimp cocktail with lots of lemon and cocktail sauce and only if it does not smell fishy because sometimes it does. Lol
I made a quiche for breakfast- 4 eggs, brie cheese, broccoli, salt and pepper, 1 tbl of salsa. The cheddar cheese on top. 350 30-40 minutes. I like spinach quiche too.
I'm in S. Louisiana and Shrimp is cherished here. We buy freezers just for our shrimp. One time I shared some shrimp recipes with a non-Louisiana person. She called me saying something is not right with the recipe. She said the recipe calls for 1/2 lb of shrimp per person and that seems like way too much per person. I said, nope that is correct and normal here. 😁

Anchovies are good. I've learned to appreciate them in cooking. I use anchovy paste in salad dressing all the time.
I just recently learned Caesar dressing has anchovy paste in it! 😊

Ron, James Cook didn't discover Australia. It was a Dutch navigator in 1606 called Willem Janszoon who first landed on the west coast and then Dirk Hartog in 1616 who was the second European to land on the western coast of Australia. James Cook landed on the east coast in what is now known as New South Wales in 1770 over 100 years later. The Dutch encountered arid, dry land and thought it was not fit for colonization.

You can root those elderberry bushes yourself. Take a branch cutting from your mature bush and make sure it had 3 bud nodules . Make sure you bury 2 deep nodules and leave one above the dirt keep watered. They will soon take root and you can reset in the ground.

For the question of how did they get shrimp up there in 1823, they probably had it stored in barrels of brine. Salt has been used as a preservative for thousands of years.
Licorice tea, make a concentrated batch, works great for a cough.

How did they preserve leftovers? I have a suggestion for Christmas cards next year. ask people to send self-addressed and stamped envelopes. It will save you on money and you can make the chose to write personal message or make a pre stamp to use
I thought Ron would try it but I get it. I can't even smell seafood without feeling sick but there is only one that I will eat on occasion and that is shrimp cocktail with lots of lemon and cocktail sauce and only if it does not smell fishy because sometimes it does. Lol
I made a quiche for breakfast- 4 eggs, brie cheese, broccoli, salt and pepper, 1 tbl of salsa. The cheddar cheese on top. 350 30-40 minutes. I like spinach quiche too.
I'm in S. Louisiana and Shrimp is cherished here. We buy freezers just for our shrimp. One time I shared some shrimp recipes with a non-Louisiana person. She called me saying something is not right with the recipe. She said the recipe calls for 1/2 lb of shrimp per person and that seems like way too much per person. I said, nope that is correct and normal here. 😁
