The only change that is needed is that only bubble teams should be playing in the play-in round. Those 16 seed schools won their conference tournaments. They're automatic qualifiers. Why should they be punished by having to play an extra game?
The only rrason i watch the tourny is to see upsets and 11-16 seeded mid and high major teams play. After first round every one of those teams who win i follow with the same passion as if they were my HOME team!! They should let more of those teams in and they make the games worth watching!!
Fantastic discussion on the mindset behind college athletics broadcasting. I agree with Skipper about woman’s college basketball ratings. These massive college BRANDS combined with marketable faces lead to sustained success. Look at Nebraska woman’s volleyball breaking the woman’s attendance world record at 87,000+. Add in what the NIL world does, look at LSU gymnast Olivia Dunne and her 7 million followers. The SEC has done a particularly great job in driving interest in woman’s basketball, softball, & baseball (to TV partner ESPN’s benefit). It will always be easier to gain a huge following with pre-built fan bases for these massive universities than it will be trying to build a new following for a league like the UFL.
The higher ranked SEC teams went 2-5 losing in the first round. Losing to Oakland (Michigan) and other mid-major teams. It seems more likely that the SEC commissioner is just trying to save his teams from embarrassment.
They need to bring it back to 64 and get rid of the worst of the automatic bids. And if somehow winning one of those play-in games counts as an "ncaa tournament win" then that needs to go away even if they don't shrink it.

Ippei is now saying he learned from a poker game in San Diego that he could get a 4.5 million betting credit, so who knows how he manipulated it from that. Guy sounds like a classic con artist.
This wouldn’t work because there would be too many games, but there should be a best 2 out of 3 format like NBA playoffs to determine who’s the real champion.
To be really interested in the tournament, I would love to see them just start with a Sweet 16 and have those teams play the best of 3 games. Same when you get to the Elite 8, Final Four, Championship
