Being a painter, artist and music lover myself, I always wondered why the Greeks dance holding arms, performing solemn slow moves.. always in elegant synchronization. There had to be something in their history, something deep. one day I suddenly discovered why.... they behave like the columns of one of their magnificent Greek temples, all columns equal , and... wait a minute, all equal..! Yes not in vain they created Democracy. My thoughts could sound ridiculous, but..there is something big there.
In ancient times, dancer was everywhere, and many alliances were created, some dances are called 'war' dances, not to declare war .. but to train the troops for defending the country, so we could call the dances 'defence' dances. We also have dances that you can dance solo if you wish.
@@JimmyTheGreek2000 Thank you for educating me on this matter, now I know something more. So, I think there is a subliminal connection between the columns of the temples (so equal one to the other), and those Greek worriers. In the same way that the columns look so majestic, so sublime, for sure the troops of Spartans or Athenians for sure looked so, when formed in tight formation. It would be a very uncomfortable situation to have to confront them, Hehehe...
althouth i am Macedonian,i love Greece....summer wonderful if anyone waste his summertime in this lovely and friendly country...unfogetable vacances, great music, delicious lokumades, gyros and suflaki :)

I identify as ethnically Turkish and I just had my ancestry dna done. I'm 21% Italy/Greece, which I take to be Greek rather than Italian owing to my family's long presence in Istanbul. I have always been proud of this Istanbul heritage and I think I love hasapiko more than any other dance because it originated about 1,000 years ago in my beautiful, beloved ancestral city. And, by the way, it really doesn't matter to me anymore whether we call that city "Constantinople" or "Istanbul" because either way, that city truly is mine.
The original name is actually: Makellarios ^^^It also means "Butcher" in Greek. The name changed due to the Ottomans being in power & turkish being used as the official language 👍
