Familiar and Unfamiliar Spots in Yakuza 0

- Yakuza 0 is a wacky little game in the Yakuza series. Say, did you know the Japanese name of the series translates to Like a Dragon? Isn't that weird? I kinda prefer the name Yakuza. Or maybe I'm just used to it, so it's weird to start calling a series I'm already familiar with by a different name all of a sudden. Or maybe I'm just stubborn and wanna act like a hipster by continuing to call it the Yakuza series.
Who knows...

"I can imagine running me hand across these velvet seats", sir our cabaret has a no touching policy.
Being in the Kamuro shopping area always makes me uncomfortable because of the possibility that Mr. Shakedown might wander in there
I definitely did have to avoid him once or twice while filming 😅
Even when the area comes back in future and when it was in past games, they always change it some way. With not just interiors but underground bits, rooftops and so on.
I would love to see one of these videos focusing on Wind Waker. Very comfortable liminal spaces in that game.
This series is so comforting ☺️
The Yakuza / Like a Dragon games easily have some of my favorite atmosphere in games. I've made several ambience videos focusing on areas within Yakuza 0 so far. I'll have to start making some for other games in the series.
Love this, please do more. Instantly earned a subscriber on this
I crave this series lmao
Back in the day there were far more yellow lights in cities than there are now too.
Most yellow street lights have been replaced by bright white ones, that's another thing that makes the world look more like the 80's.
I miss the warm glow and buzz of yellow street lights
Kamurocho and all the other districts in this series are so fun to walk around, love the little details and how much they nailed the vibes of their real life counterparts. I've seen footage of 80s Japan and Yakuza 0 was spot on.
Anyway, great video, I especially appreciate you covering a Yakuza game. Shame it's gotten so little views 😔
The game must tell you the magazines are real, because I knew they were real but my knowledge of print media in Japan was zero before I played the game, and now it's still zero with a few numerals to the right of the decimal point.
I love how the dancing animations show these people are workers, they can't dance but they dance anyway, they are having a good time just being brave enough to let themselves be watched by strangers.
Honestly, maybe I was just being kinda dense at first. The way they're presented, they do FEEL like real magazines. They probably wouldn't have even made the magazine shelf and let you look at all the covers if they were fake.
@@PretzelYT you can look at fake magazines developed by your own R&D team in MGS Peace Walker, so maybe they would have made parodies. Either way, really cool that they didn't. I knew they were real because they name-dropped publisher names (Kodansha comes to mind, it's also in the video).
Yakuza built a lot of its attention to detail off of Sega's other series: Shenmue. I have a feeling that if you got around to playing that, Pretzel, you'd have probably DOZENS of videos to make with its atmosphere. Very good video though, Yakuza 0 is so fun to walk around in.
I'm very aware of Shenmue, but I haven't played it before. I have an inkling it'd be kinda hard to play as a new player for the first time in the current year. I should give it a try though...
Please do. Shenmue is such an unique experience, I think you'd have a lot of appreciation (and we'd love to see your video of it).
It's crazy how I bought Out Run for the PS4 and it came with a whole other Yakuza game attached to it.
It's so nice to finally hear someone pronounce yakuza correctly
There used to be a couple "former" Yakuza associates where I used to live in the late 2000s/early '10s. It was around the time that show, "Deadliest Warrior", was on SpikeTV. The show did this "Mafia vs Yakuza" episode and I remember talking to these guys as customers at my job, and one of them was annoyed, not that the episode had Mafia winning, but that the so-called "experts" on the Yakuza side of things pronounced it Yuh-KOO-zuh the whole way through. He had me laughing with, "It's the same pronunciation key as Mafia! YA-koo-ZUH! You don't see them saying 'muh-FEE-uh', do you?"
am i nuts or did the thumbnail change like 3 times
i was having an existential crisis because this video was doing the worst out of my last 10 videos😭
but we sticking with this one for now
@@PretzelYT ok fair enuf
Fantastic video as always!
Yeah, you could say I'm a cranny enjoyer.
Please do more yakuza games this was great
God your criminally underrated
I might not stop by much (or watched the full video but I promise I will), I hope your videos get more attention because they are hidden gems
Yes you got alot of subs and your highest view count is a million, but its about the consistency of viewers on each video not the peak or subs
Yeah it's super sucky how recent videos have struggled to cross even 3000 views. I don't know what I can do, I feel like video quality has been the same, if not better, than my earlier ones.
@@PretzelYT you're consistently good and I don't understand why you're not more popular. All I can think of is algorithm fuckery beyond your control
3:24 I dunno, I think that's sushi lol, always loved walking around the edges of the map looking at the out of bounds areas, especially that area across the taxi street. what district would be back there?
Thanks to your videos, I've started to pay much more attention to the surroundings in games myself.
10:43 no! I don't wanna disappoint Kiryu!
🙌🙌🙌
first :coolcat:
is this joke dead yet
not yet, but it will be soon
