Great video Mark. You provided a lot of needed information to all of us future visitors! I love that you tied together a lot of the important topics that expats must think about! I’m really appreciative of the amount of work you put into this video!
Thank you 😊 I'm glad you found it useful
A lot of good information for us Americans!
Very good Mark, this is one you want to save in your favorites to reference later if needed, the one important takeaway is letting the US Embassy know that you are in country along with the many other points made with regard to passports, staying current with immigration and staying low-key as in not drawing unnecessary attention to yourself and remain respectful to their country. All good stuff, thanks again.
Thank you. 😊 I'm glad you found it useful 😊
I appreciate the work you put into this. Thank you.
Mr. Mark, your channel is a big help to foreigners who would like to visit or stay here in our country. Do try also to extend assistance or support to those who are not lucky and likewise encounter unfortunate situation or problems here. Not only Americans but other nationalities as well. More power.
Glad you found it useful
Mark, my experience with the immigration personnel in Tacloban is exactly as you stated. They are helpful and friendly. The Immigration office in Tacloban is small and has a very relaxed vibe.
That's great hear.
Thanks Mark, FYI: I just renewed my Passport in the US. which had expired just before the pandemic, and it took almost 5 months to get the new passport. Also, when you order or renew a passport you can opt for the larger 50 page passport at no extra cost, and for extra cost obtain a passport card, that while valid for travel in limited countries may be of use as ID or in obtaining a replacement passport if you loose your passport book.
Also, it might be worth considering an RF blocking container such as a wallet or Faraday bag or pouch to prevent scanning or tracking of your credit cards, passport boot and cards, and even mobile devices.
Thank you for watching Jack and for sharing this information 😀
Passport card nice for checking in to hotels
I did exactly what you were talking about with your Visa Mark. I was in Thailand. Went to the Embassy website and followed the detailed procedure on mailing it in. I stayed in a hotel up north and it was back to me in three weeks. 130 dollars. I had no problem what so ever. I am currently back home in the US doing repairs. Cannot wait to get out of here ... :)). Best of luck and great channel.
Thanks Mark for a great informative video.
Thank you and keep up the great work of informing all of us especially the ones like myself that are planning to retire in the Philippines.
Thank you for watching ☺️
Good info Mark. Great need to know vlog👍
If you are married to a Filipina the best thing is to get a 13a resident alien visa this is a permanent life time visa....been here 21 years never left and lovin life.
Very informative. Thank you for the info.
Very Informative Mark, Thank You!
I like the change of pace with this video. Thank you
Remember: All foreigners are second class citizens in Phil.
This is very much different from USA legal system where immigrants are at par with citizens.
Hi Mark, always enjoy your videos. Thanks very much for all your information.
Great information!
Fantastic important information! Thanks so much@
Recently lost my dad. Cremation without special care ( basically cardboard box) is now around $2800 US. A no special stuff funeral would have been around $17,000 US.
A female relative was cremated in the Philippines. After the cremation, workers called the family to view the intact femur. I didn’t believe it and was horrified. So glad I refused to look at it.
In N.Y.state you can have a direct cremation for $1,400 or less.
Thanks for going over that information.
My pleasure. You're welcome 😊
some really good info there Mark, Thank You :0
One of the best informative video for people who are thinking about moving abroad. Hope people will take your advice. Thakl you!
Great job Mark!...thanks for caring and sharing:)
Great channel Mark! You are very helpful & calm/informative with your Vlogs, in my top 2 vloggers in the PH.
Thank you 😊 Your comment made my day
@@everymanhasastory , You're welcome Mark! What I like most about your Vlogs is that you are a Pro @ follow up questions as you're able to get the interviewees to expand on their answers.
Just received our USA passport renewals by courier from Manila. I downloaded and printed the form (s) and mailed both from our Cebu residence on 6 Feb using LBC courier. Embassy shipped them back 28 Feb using AIR 21 courier. I received both today 15 Mar. I prepaid $130 USD each. Easy and no need to visit any imigration office.
Lots of information here Mark & appreciate how detailed you are bringing this to us complete with your personal stories. 4 years ? It doesn't seem that long when I saw your one of your 1st video's on your new country.
I know time has flown by
Good information thank you Mark
I just did mine online last month. It will take up to 11 weeks. Caution.....once they received your application, they will cx your existing active passport, so beware if you need to travel while still waiting for your new passport. Although, you can pay extra to expedite it.
I wish the US enforced immigration laws like Philippines does. The US is a nightmare now because we have not enforced our immigration laws. What is now coming across the border will make life in the US much worse over the next 50 years. I pity future generations and the chaos they will have to deal with.
I renewed my passport last year in the US and it took about 5 months to receive. I was happy with that because the state department website said current waiting time was 18 months (no expedited service available) due to continued delays from the pandemic. Do no wait until the last minute for your renewal.
Renewed my passport here in the US by mail. It was still a bit nerve wracking to send my passport off and be without it. I'm not out of the country, nor have a plan to right now and it took a while, but it was fine.
It would really be worrisome to be outside the country and mail off your passport with no firm timeframe.
Great video Mark! Packed full of great info! One of these days I might take the plunge and check things out! Good to know these things before I get there!
Great informational video of things alot of guys do not know or think of. Thank you for the great information of all the facets that you touched upon. Mucho Appreciated. All be blessed, safe, happy, healthy, prosperous and great. Real talk & Nuff Said.
Thank you for watching and for taking the time to comment 😀
Thank you for an extremelh informative and helpful video. It is just what I need since I am needing to renew my passport before the early fall. I plan to go to the consulate in Cebu to get the job done. Kep up the great information.
Thanks Mark!
For any American living in the Philippines long-term, get a decent lawyer first before obtaining a local close companion. Keep the lawyer's contact information handy.
If you end up in jail, don't give any statements (it is your right in the Philippines) and contact your lawyer first. Your close companion can wait.
Lastly complex transactions require a lawyer to navigate.
Great advice Gary. Thank you for sharing this information 😀
Great informatiin. Thanks.
Great vlog well done
Would love a detailed vlog about the three fights that resulted in deaths since you've been living in PH.
This is essential information. Thank you.
You're welcome Willy
Thank you, Mark, great information
For Americans who extend their tourist visas each month or months at a time, you can renew your passport as early as 9 months prior to expiration. Technically, you must have 6 months' validity left on your passport to extend. Renew early and never have an issue extending. I know 2 people that got denied because they let their passport run down below the minimum, 1 with only 30 days left. They both had to pay a fine after reapplying when they got their passport renewed because their extensions were expired.
Not just for Americans, this is general advice for all nationals
@@lazlo5055 wow I'm impressed
I got my exit clearance at the imagration office.
Mark! I don’t recall you touching on the topic of service-connected military veterans or veterans affairs hospitals or clinics and care provided at those facilities. Thx
That was not the topic.
This is information the US Embassy in Manila wishes every American in the Philippines knew
Thanks Mark! Very helpful.
My pleasure
@@everymanhasastory Also, I really like the map in the background on your wall.
I can't afford to fly back to America, so I'm going to drive.
Val-id-ity : -- )

Great information, thanks Mark 👍
Also good advice for non Americans
Good man Mark!
Yep boring. Useful and welcome
It's much easier in the states we got ours renewed last year the first week we were there. After we did the paperwork and mailed it, we went on a road trip. Will 5 weeks later we had both our passports in our hands.
Good topic, there are limits to the amount of help you can get from Embassy and a friend ended up having to relinquish his passport in order to get a hardship airline ticket back home. Well that's the second time that's happened to, and that far away from USA, too broke to get an airline ticket hmm. You get your passport back when you pay for it.🙏🙏
Hi Mark long time watching your channel I will be there April 4th just Asking fellow UA-camrs about hotels to stay in Dumaguete cost $60-100 a night can't wait to see the city thanks people really enjoy from Australia.
thank you very much for the useful information, all the best
Philippine prisons. Interesting thought.
Cool video-All ex-pats need to update all beneficiaries on financial accounts (especially for our children) and then make sure our gf’s and or wife is a beneficiary as well!
You can just get agent to do yr passport renewal and yr extension and yr ex clearance
The USA embassy in Bangkok website gives information about shipping the body back to the USA. They estimated cost at $6,000 to $8,000.
What a waste of money 💰
Bookmarked! Thanks!
You can bring ashes in hand luggage on plane
Just have a death certificate and cremation certificate
Get several copies of death certificate
Good stuff Mark.
I’m a Filipino but I love the system of us embassy, you get a time slot and that means others can’t get in line. There won’t be 300 people ahead of you since only on the people in that time slot get to go in. There won’t be a king a mile long
I'm coming
Mark thanks so much for the information. Brother you have gained big weight since I been watching. Watch what you're eating, start taking walks in the morning go down to one meal a day exercise. Not trying to bust your balls just concerned.
I think you are wrong there Mark. You can ştill renew your passport one months before it expired if you are coming from the Philippines or any other country. Because you are going to the US and you are going to renew your passport there. But if you are coming from the US and going outside the country they will not let you leave the country if your passport will expired in 6 months. That's according to Terry.
You're correct Benjamin. Thanks 😊
It’s crazy here I’m on Medicare part ABand D and just meds for anasid is 700 I use buzz Rex it’s 35.00 another med they told me 3800 same card 68.00 just meds

Yes , Philippines is best that you can stay very cheaper property especially lot or farm ,and Filipinos are very friendly ,and I am Filipina too, while I'm watching your vlogs I'm interested because your interview people from different places, and countries ,.I am from Cagayan de Oro City, good day sir! Your new viewer ,.
Mark: I pay about 70 dollars a month for my extension. I live in Iloilo. How do you pay thirty dollars? I know someone that lives in San Carlos that pays thirty dollars a month also. I don't understand why my fee is much higher.
Extension?
Very good info Mark... Can a person stay in the Philippines long term ( 5 years or more ) on a Tourist Visa without applying for a Retirement Visa ? And do they have longer -- term tourist VISAS ? Where a person only has to renew their tourist VISA when their U.S. Passport expires ? Seems like a hassle to have to renew every six months. Also, does the Philippines allow a person to be a dual Citizen ? U.S. and Philippines Citizen...
Yes. After 3 years you have to leave the Philippines. All you have to do is step across the border and renter for another 3 years. Very easy.
Lots of great information. Regarding health insurance, I really don't bother. It's more of a headache than what it's supposedly worth. The best insurance for me is cash and a credit card with as high a limit as you can muster. $20k is enough to cover almost anything serious (use an international card like Citi or Chase, or a Philippine bank credit card). I had a minor surgery that cost under $300 but my wife had to go to the ATM because I did not have enough cash on me (and there was no ATM in the surgical area) and the doctors typically only take cash. Cash talks in Jail situations as well.
I agree with you 💯
The Philippines Embassies & consulate in Australia is absolutely terrible.
Hey Mark, great content.....
BTW where did you get that world map?
I'm a career trucker /driver in the state and I would love to have one of those in my office.

More advance-level suggestions for any American living in the Philippines: Make social connections with the locals.
I think the Philippines is one of the easiest places for an American to make connections with the locals. Survey-after-survey, Filipinos have the highest favorable opinion of the United States than any other country. Use that to your advantage. Have your own local connections aside from those that were due to your local close companion. Your companion will give you more respect by demonstrating that you can independently navigate the social landscape yourself.
Philippine society places a lot of value on "who you know" (and we know the problems it causes). You are not going get much from Filipinos if your social circle is mainly fellow foreigners and your close companion.
If you regularly use or anticipate the use of professional services (e.g., doctors, lawyers, accountants) AND you like that person, give them a small gift during Christmas. It doesn't have to be expensive. A gift goes a long way for those folks and you never know what other help they can give you outside their profession.
TL;DR Make social connections with Filipinos, outside those facilitated by your local companion. It is very useful in an emergency and gives you some independence (or options at least aside) from your companion.
Gray thank you for watching ☺️ and for taking the time to share your thoughts 😊
Not American, so didn't watch it.... 😂😂😂😂
Funnily enough this applies to other nationalities too! Same thing for us Brits for example. Why make it specific to yanks?!
Because I am a volunteer liason for the US Embassy in Manila.
I know nothing about other countries Embassy regulations
Don’t let your visa expired. I mean, you don’t want people to stay illegally in your country right?
Of course. They never do in the US.
Dangerous ..?....the Town I Live in has crazy Motorcycle Traffic on every Road....side roads ...Sidewalks are blocked with Vehicles mostly if they have a sidewalk...you need eyes in the back of your head...they Drive on the Sidewalks ..don't respect Pedestrians....if you have a Walk Green at intersection...they still drive through...with people in the crossing...very little regulation or enforcement of any Rules...they hate restrictions...so ya...have Emergency Medical ..I nearly get run down Daily...constantly dodging Vehicles ...absolute Madness in 2023....most hazard ess....Philippines I have ever Seen.
