Finally, over forty years later, the Barron Knights' parody of The Ramblers' song makes sense.
It was amazing that they got this Christmas special recorded, as in 1979 ITV was off air from early August until late October 1979 due to strike action by the ACTT union. When ITV resumed on October 24th 1979 they had to really speed up production of their Christmas specials which would normally be recorded in late summer or in September.
It was probably recorded mid-November or maybe early December, but you're right about Christmas specials as they're usually recorded in late summer!

@@traceylee7637 If ITV went on strike now, no one would care. Back in 1979 they held a monopoly on commercial TV - now they are usually ignored.
3:51 after '321', this lady became a small-time celeb at HTV West. Tragically she killed herself, 11 years after this, aged 36, it was said because she was with a married guy - but he refused 2 leave his wife 4 her.
Very sad 2 die 4 a dumb guy! RIP dear lady.

I agree! People say you couldn't figure out the clues on 3-2-1 but once you've watched a few editions you can see the methods they used to make the clues! 😀

Here on UA-cam there is a Thames Television junction from Christmas Day 1979 leading into this edition of 3-2-1.

Can anyone, hand on heart, honestly say that they ever worked out the answer to the clues to correctly identify the bin? I remember countless times thinking I had, only to have completely different "logic" revealed to me.
The clues were crazy cryptic, deliberately mad!
Yes, honestly the first time I saw this I got the bin clue right away - I mean, they emphasize the letters B-I-N and the end of the lines to make it obvious! I think the writer was being kind and trying to make it easier for Christmas...and they fell for it anyway!!!
For the first and last couple of series, it was possible to work them out. But in between they were so ridiculously difficult that it was just about random selection and hoping for the best.
The Space themed episode was the only time I got it but I never had much of a clue otherwise
Hate how they've edited off the YTV frontcap, thus crashing the titles.
Challenge always used to take the YTV front logo off, in later episodes you can clearly see it
You can almost see them pushing Dusty Bin along. Kind of spoils the magic.

Dear God, Wilfrid Brambell was really pissed during this recording. Just like in the last series of Steptoe and Son in 1974 he is stumbling over his lines, and his pacing and timing are dreadful. His alcoholism was really bad by 1979.

Awww I miss Ted, he had style & was always a real sweetheart with the public. A true British gehtlemam, he was a class act.
Ted was about as funny as Jimmy Tarbuck and that's not saying much. I did like him as a host though, seemed like a nice guy.
He was so much more than 3-2-1, and a very funny, down to earth bloke. I’m friends with his son and I’ve learned a lot more about Ted. Very dearly missed.
