I met Tommy once at his Country Club where i was playing a gig in a cover band. Came up and hung out with us on the break in the locker room which was our break room. Super nice guy

Read more about Frank's personality, if you so wish, in my memoir of 1968 when I lived and worked in his log cabin in Laurel Canyon. It's actually my story from that lucky day I met Frank in London in 1967 and ended up being his assistant but in the process reveals stuff about Frank not in any of the other books.

Now you tell me: could ANYBODY else even REMOTELY connected to the rock world in the late 60s have commanded that respect?!? Answer: of course not. Zappa was a composer. Genius.

What was so brilliant about him was that he himself showed respect to others. For his article in Life Magazine in 1968, he interviewed a whole lot of blues artists at his house. They came in cautiously not liking Frank's hair to his shoulder blades and weird beard, but after they'd talk to Frank and saw how much he admired them, they left with back-slapping happy smiles. Frank complained that 'these guys are now forced to work in the car wash because no one wants to hear real music any more.'
