- Are you SURE you're doing a proper bodyweight squat?
Most people I see in the gym are making some pretty common mistakes. Watch the video above, and then head on over and check out the full article at NerdFitness.com: www.nerdfitnes...

Thank you Stacey!
Finally! You helped me fix my squat form! The part where the first cue is to take the hips back before bending the knees. That's where I was making the mistake. I can finally squat without falling :)
Once you get the squat position sorted those wall sits are a lot easier! Thank you NF!!
Great video!! Thanks for the assisted squat. I’m not as good as Staci and would fall over without. This gave me encouragement to try!
The clip inserts are very awkward and unnecessary...the instructor is very good and I think the clips cheapen the video content a bit
instructor is cheap and looks like a slob.
One of the most helpful body weight squat videos I've found thanks
Wow this girl does a perfect squat.. and the way she does it makes it look so easy.😊
I just came from watching one of your first videos and holy crap you have come a long way in terms of quality!!!!!! Awesome work!
excellent video guys :-) Thank you very much
Thank you for this video. Well explained!
I love that you used a Tim & Eric clip for the knees exploding :P
Any suggestions on reducing lower back strain once you get to the bottom of the squat?
You have saved my knees. Thank you
Great to hear!
very helpful, thanks
Thank you, very helpful.
Can you do one on one-legged squats (i.e. pistol squats)?
I second that motion with a vengeance.
We now have a one-legged squat video! Check the channel! 🤘
lol steve seems to be such a derp :)
Steve here. Can confirm. I am a derp.
Love the Time and Eric reference
Super
I would be curious to see if you can take your average Joe and have perfect form. This girl obviously is well versed. Not everyone's knees can go into that kind of flexion.
Yes, Staci has worked hard to have an awesome squat form (and she'll be the first to tell you she's STILL working to improve it). Someone who doesn't squat as much may need more work to improve strength and mobility than just 5 minutes and few cues. We show you what you should be working towards!
wait knees over toes is okay??
Yep. Perfectly fine
Ok. Great video. Her arms are parallel to the floor making a 90 degree with the axis of her body. When she is in the lowest position, to keep her arms parallel to the floor she has to raise them away from the axis of the body as her hips hinge back. And that is fine.
Stace is so nice 😊
Is it bad to do a shallower body squat?
Does it just work different muscles? Or is it bad for your knees?
I ride horses, and I usually have my squats mimic jump position as much as possible. But would I be better off dropping further into the squat to parallel or below?
Excellent
thank you
any advice on how to make an 8 second thing into 6 mins?
You mean squatting and holding for 6 mins?
Do 8 seconds as often as you can, and add a second or two when you can. You'll get there!
What's the cartoon at the end with the guy shooting at the spaceship?
Does it make a difference if you move through the range of motion slowly or power through them??
Move through it slowly, use controlled movements to avoid injury.
I still have a lot of strain on the knees. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?
TTate I don't think this deep squat is for everyone.
Thanks for the video but I have a question.
When you do squat, were you sitting back with your whole body, keeping the shin constant or were you sitting back with your hips keeping the shin constant? Thank you.
Cool video! + Is Stacy on "mute" ?
:-) :-) just kidding :-) awesome stuff, you guys.
The video is slitghly disturbing in a way, because Stacy is awesome at fitness in general and squats in particular, and she doesn't get a word in at any point in the video :/
what's disturbing is that this video just came out when I met someone I like (after a long time), I'm in bad shape, yet have now found motivation in myself to get in shape (and I'm a nerd.. this just showed up in my email today) and then that I'm distracted by Stacy!
Staci IS a total squatting/benching/deadlifting badass, but it is often easier and clearer to have one person demo and one person talk/point out cues. We're all working together to help! #TeamworkMakesTheDreamWork

you -------------------------------------------> the point
(no offense ;) )
BeastSkills I understand your point. But it's rather objectifying.
Not everyone enjoys talking on video
Not at all. They use Staci because her form is perfect. It's a compliment to her technique.
If.you tend to tip over backwards when doing.squats what are you likely doing wrong?
Stretch your calfs. That will give your ankles more range of motion so that you can lean forward. After a lot of leg stretching I can squat with feet flat on the floor.
3:15 tape says harambe
great spot hahaha
wtf!!...
I don't see that
hold your breath, you'll protect your innards and bounce back up. or no?
"about shoulder width apart"
Uhh, no. That's too narrow for me, physically can't do a squat if my legs are that close.
That's why we said "about" - it's a good place to start for most people, but find out what works best for you!
Stacey is wcw
I CANT DO IT
Ever do it?
Squating too low harmful for knees
Only if you don't have enough hip mobility, bad form, too much weight, ect. Squating low is perfectly fine if you know what you're doing.
Surprisingly I have been doing the squats properly just guided by common sense XD
Just found this channel through this video and I gotta say the man in blue and the woman are evry helpful and great but why is the red guy there? He's making cringy annoying comments
The red guy is the founder of nerd fitness.
