It was originally from the last act of Petipa's 1868 balet "Le Roi Candaule" and was called the "Pas de Diane", being a pas d'action for the goddess Diana, the shepherd Endymion and a Satyr. In 1935 Vaganova used the "Pas de Diane" in a revised edition for her 1935 revival of "La Esmeralda" featuring Galina Ulanova and Vakhtang Chabukiani. For some strange reason Vaganova re-dubbed the pas the "Diane et Actéon pas de deux". Regarding the music, only the female variation is by Drigo - this solo was originally added to "La Esmeralda" in 1886. The music at 9:26 that's used for the corps' dance is Diana's original variation. The variation for the Satyr is no longer performed, and the.coda is edited
