Stop supporting a company that's hurting people Rick. You're trying to get your viewers hurt. C'mon man. You're too good of a person to accept sponsorship money from these scumbags. Please Rick. Please...
imagine being friends with the guys in charge of making the next big retro gaming convention... and they are literally all in this video buying all the best games at a con before it opens. This is why retro game cons suck. Resellers buying everything on friday during set up before the public even has a chance to see what's there.
There’s a very small % of people that actually know that, the average person isn’t a reseller we go to cons for the experience and be hit with that nostalgia. Never been to a con and said to myself “man there’s nothing good here!”
This video right here demonstrates why going to conventions absolutely pointless, all these vendors just snatch up everything before it even starts and then mark it up lol absolute suckers wasting their time going to these events
Yup, sure seems that way. Even if you buy into the argument that used/retro game stores provide a valuable service in having you being able to instantly buy and trade in/sell product as opposed to ebay, and that this justifies higher and lower prices for buying and selling - this doesn't necessarily justify buying retro games from your vendor friends before the convention opens before other con attendees have the opportunity to get there.
This being said, I'm not sure if there's a huge difference between these friend vendor deals happening before the con and after the con - it might not be that bad in itself, friends will give each other access to cheaper prices to support each others' businesses that's just how tight knit communities work I guess - but it might just kinda send a weird message to show that pre-con dealin' before it opens psychologically, as some of the negative comments demonstrate
Also, while Rick did get a handful of games, retro gaming conventions are pretty sizeable and have plenty of cheap/valuable inventory. Most stores themselves like rick reasoned don't need a rare pokemon box-esque game for their buyers, and so might go after usually cheaper retro games. There are plenty of other games in that price range at the convention, so you're only really missing out as an attendee on something like pokemon box. Maybe an idea to future videos would be to offer this to a buyer who's not a vendor for a certain price - but the exchange of money and then game hunting after that might take a lot of time, the value of a trade is that it saves time and rick needed a lot of cheaper retro games for the store. Maybe one point to be made is that we can extrapolate and assume that many other sorts of trade deals between vendors for rare games at retro game cons are made; such that this video isn't particularly bad in itself, but is just a reminder of a broader phenomena that retro game con attendees face. But there aren't really any retro game cons in my area of Australia and I'm not super familiar with them, so I can't speak to that. I do in general enjoy these videos as a peak into another subculture and the atmosphere of buying/selling is fun, ultimately you can just mister or emulate a lot of these anyway; nobody really needs a $1400 physical copy of pokemon box, so I'm not really sure if it's that bad for it to be sold before the con opens (ig we also don't know if he offered it to potential non-retail buyers by calling out into the crowds).
They buy the ticket or gas to go buy the ticketfor event, if applicable, buy things to sell to customers at their store? They should get the opportunity like everyone else. No one is stopping you from showing up with a grail to trade or sell.
So then wait until the last few hours before a convention ends when the vendors are about to start packing things up and then get games at a better deal because vendors don't want to haul it all back home. Hell even Rick has done that in the past when he was trying to complete his N64 collection, he bought stuff in like the last 10 minutes.
@samnoone8354 yeah not gonna lie this is actually starting to piss me off its all friends and UA-cam getting let in early and they still linger around when open looking for more deals I won't ever get a chance to go regardless based off where I live unless I plan a trip but I would be heartbroken going in the next day to no good deals left
