I’m in 8th grade and my AAU teammates be getting in some mad beef sometimes. We don’t get ejected often even if we’re in each other’s faces and staring people down. It’s a lot more fun that way

Did you know that basketball courts used to be in literal metal cages just like cage fights? Before that players would literally wrestle to grab out-of-bounds balls since it was first come first serve for the possession. So the people who think the 80s were the toughest are just the people who were introduced to B-Ball in the 80s. People who became fans in the 90s think the 90s were the toughest and the same for the 70s, 60s, etc. 20 years from now people will be talking about how tough the NBA was in the 2010s.

In this case the point is "tougher" doesn't necessarily mean "better" and we should approach the issue of bad refereeing with an actual plan to fix it instead of reminiscing about past eras as if they were perfect.
Imagine if the NBA don’t actually hire referees long-term and made an app where you rate referees and if they get a bad rating they will be fired, and if they get a good rating, they will keep their job until they got a bad rating
