You touched on a spot that I feel pretty strongly about in your video...When you say that if they Nerf Darius then no one will play Darius and they'll have to go to the next best character and that might drive some players away...To that I say: Too bad so sad...This is my own personal opinion on why the FGC and fighting game as a genre isn't bigger then it is...
The FGC is made out ordinary Joe Shmoes who think that if they spam the best characters in the game to farm wins online, SonicFox himself will show up at his door and sponsor them himself during EVO next year. Fighting games that you choose to play are supposed to resonate with you in some way...I had almost 1000 hrs in DBFZ and I stayed not only because the gameplay was fun, but because I'm a big dragonball fan in general. People that play fighting games just to play the best characters in the game are the bane of the FGC's existence only because the professional scene exists and there are cash prizes...
You should play a fighting game because you love the fighting game...not because you think you can get so good that you could potentially earn money from it...DBFZ had 20+ characters in it's roster and you go online and you see the same 5 meta characters online...Then the character gets nerfed and people bitch online about how they can't dominate online anymore because they relied too much on the character then their own skill level.
People are going to leave this game in droves if after 2 or 3 years of updates and maybe around 20-30 characters added, and Darius or Ahri is still running the online scene...or whoever is dominating the top of the leaderboard at that time. I want to go online and see variety. I want to go online and see expression. Different combinations of different champions, forcing me to learn different matchups. Play your FAVORITE characters...not the BEST characters.
Players that play the meta characters that you have no connection with because it's easier then putting in the work with your favorite character who might be worse...in my opinion...don't deserve to play fighting games at all...If Darius and Ahri get nerfed and people bitch? Too bad...

@@romanlegion8331 I agree with most things you said but sonic fox won Evo with Johnny Cage and not with his favorite character (I think it might be nitara for a while, but she was trash, I could be wrong) 🫡 even pros sometimes use top tiers to win Vs their favorite character

Older fighting games used to have playstyle variety but games this generation have basically shut out certain options for "balance." For example, they prevented chip kills in SF5 unless you had super AND the opponent didn't have alpha counter to escape. That forced characters that depended on chip to pressure/close out rounds to become weaker and characters not dependent on EX moves to become stronger (off the top of my head, I know there are other repercussions). In SF6, now chip is nonexistent unless the opponent's drive meter is depleted. Perhaps this may be one of the reasons why Ryu, despite getting a ton of buffs in season 2, is still performing piss poorly according to statistics. Let's not forget the drive impact wall splat mechanic in the game does not help defensive characters either. A character like Sagat would get decimated in SF6 unless he had a major rework.
All the little homogenized subsystems they put in these newer games to incentivize certain playstyles is destroying what once made fighting games great. I would argue, generally, that the newer, popular fighting games are less balanced. There will always be low tiers, but MORE options for everybody = MORE chances for lower tiers to win (assuming the top tiers don't have absolutely broken options ie Petshop, Kakyoin, ST Akuma). I find it perplexing, in 2024, where routine updates and patches are expected, that developers are still in the practice of implementing such restrictive systems. Why not just stick to what has worked in the past and combine the best of the old and the new?
And regarding really long combos and setplay. Although they are a legitimate part of fighting games, I think their impact should be minimized. Some characters should have them in small doses for the sake of variety. But screw my opinion--what about the newer players? Do devs actually think most of these players enjoy sitting in training mode all day to number crunch setups and practice 15-30 hit combos (to be fair, some actually do but the rest will move on)? What do you think is going through most people's heads as they climb ranked expecting to scrap in a FIGHTING game and these "single player experiences" start accumulating? Does the FGC actually believe this is conducive for game sales, stream viewership, and maximizing the amount of pot monsters in a bracket?
I'd also like to add, just like any game, you have to learn the rules. Do the devs actually believe the average gamer is interested in sitting through tutorials like its high school? World Tour mode is a step in the right direction but Alpha 3 World Tour was way more dope. Also, having to navigate some of these awful menus that need serious QOL changes.
I believe arcades were what caused the initial hit of fighting games. Devs had to grab your attention instantly and keep you hooked because there were a hundred other monitors with pretty lights trying to take your quarters. Now devs can make you play a game past your refund point and run off with your money. Then they offer to charge you more money for Season 1 and 2 DLC characters with no way of grinding them after you already gave them 60 last year. It's basically a scam.
I could go on forever about what's wrong with modern fighting games. I say this because I feel like fighting games could be even greater than they are right now. Given the right IP with a ton of awesome characters and a game designed with a simple, traditional system and not scammy monetization practices. At the same time we have rollback and patches and all sorts of convenient crap that didn't exist in 1996. Here's to hope for a better future for the fighting game genre!

Maybe its just me because I'm a pretty big casual, but the big reason I like sf6 is the huge variety of defensive options you have. No chip damage, parry system, etc are all very nice tools to have. I also prefer the chip damage be added when you run out of drive meter, which is a nice punish for those who spam drive abilities or spend the whole time blocking.

I think the bigger problem is gonna be roster especially with MvC. Unless 2XKO launches with like 20+ characters its gonna get stale quick. ESPECIALLY since it's 2v2. MvC works cause there are so many characters. I think thats why most tag games are crossovers, think being the operative word there.

trueeee i think for a 2v2 game, 20 should be the lowest number of characters, maybeeeee 16

@@arroyoyo6315 that and the lack of motion input is what kind of took wind out of my sails. I kind of assumed with the size of leagues roster we'd get more characters than it looks like we're getting at launch. There is that area below the character portrait has more space, but is that space for launch characters, or is it for DLC

Ive been playing the game and i have mix feelings. I do think its a cool game thats pretty cool to watch. I especially think ekko and yasuo are sick. I dont think versus fighters are for me. I like in sf6 have much more time to think and react in the footies game. In combo games it feel like im either doing a long combo or just holding block. These styles of games are too fast for me. I find myself having more fun labbing in 2xko than labbing in SF6. I think practicing the crazy combos and setups in practice is really fun but i just dont enjoy playing against them. I like labbing more in 2xko but i enjoy playing sf6 more. The alpha has like 2 days left and im kinda trying to force myself to play it because there only 2 days left but i just dont find myself wanting to play it. I think it will be a good game and i will try it when it releases because its free and more arcane characters but idk if its for me.
