I do remember the van version ,back in the mid 80's I remember a local carpet company had 2 mk1 Astra vans (A-reg) 1300 petrol and a (X-reg) Record van I think it was a 2.0 petrol all three vans were in blue. It was the norm back the to have Vauxhall and Opel running side by side it was two choices of the same car. It was like back to the 1950's,60's and early 1970's when you had Austin Mini and Morris Mini same with the 1100's and 1300's and Austin Cambrige and Morris Oxford also MG, Worsley , Vanden Plas and Riley version's of the same car. It's the same today with the Volkswagon group with the VW up , Skoda City go and the Seat Mii , It's all badge engineering. Thanks for this great video Take care👍
In New Zealand we got the Holden Commodore ( nearest to the Opel Record nose ), body shell variants start from VB ( mk1 ) 1978>, VC ( mk2), VH ( mk3 different grill ), VK ( Mk4 )- Fibre glass bumpers ( Nissan 6 cyld 2000cc ) along with 2.85 / 3.31 litre aussie 6 cyld & aussie V8's 4.2 / 5 litre variants. The subsequent VL / VN was a whole new shape more like US 🇺🇸 with much bigger proportions and the standard 3800cc V6 sometimes used to repower HB / HC Viva's and Magnum's in Canada 🇨🇦 and New Zealand 🇳🇿. Thanks for sharing the UK based Opel Rekord.❤😂
PS - no diesel variant in NZ. Smallest engine fitted was called "The Starfire" engine, about 1897cc displacement. It didn't like the period CNG conversion that ran parallel with LPG conversion kits to supplement fuel economy. 😮
What, No passenger wing mirror on a Berlina? Never knew that the 3 door van version was available in the UK. There was one of those on display at the museum that Ian Seabrook (Hubnut) visited in the Netherlands back in June/July 2023. A bit tenuous but my parents owned a 1986 Vauxhall Carlton 2.2i CD auto. So the facelifted version of this Rekord with bigger triangles behind the back doors and a more angular looking dashboard.
Great video been enjoying quite a few of yours lately Opel version always seem to be better spec than Vauxhalls. Carlton mk1 I had a 79 berlina HL back in the 90’s great car great spec
