And this is why I resonated with his romance so much more than the others. For someone like him and what he's been forced to do, *real* intimacy is terrifying. The idea of letting someone know your vulnerable side is scary, but something secretly longed for. It makes those moments when he's protective of you, when you respect his refusal to bite the hemomancer drow, or when he refuses the drow twins (while in very high affection) that much more meaningful. This is the first time anyone has made him feel cherished and free 🖤

I love this confession so much, it's so charming to me that he went into this like "ok, gonna make THEM fall in love with ME so I'm protected >:)" and then he ended up catching feelings. He drops the dramatic delivery and the flowery compliments, the old routine doesn't suffice for someone he's genuinely in love with.
I literally don’t think I’ve ever fallen for a fictional character this hard what the FUCK He’s so sweet and so tragic and I want to give him a hug :(( Out of everyone in the game, I think Astarion feels most like a real person. He’s so complex and nuanced, the devs really did an amazing job writing him (and everyone else, this game is a masterpiece in general lol)
What I find fascinating about Astarion, is how impossibly brave he is. These kind of words take a huge amount of bravery and guts to spil it out (in ordinary life not everyone will risk to reveal something much-much less dramatic). Still he does a step forward, without wrapping up in his trauma and getting into position "I have a trauma, everyone is here to approach and pamper me, never otherwise". He approaches, he takes the step, not Tav. It's unbelivably brave.

I really like this version a lot more than the post Araj one. Him coming on his own to confess he's been manipulating you but fell for you, and saying that he *wants* the relationship to be real (if i'm not mistaken it's the first time he expresses he really wants something), all that not knowing how Tav will react, that takes courage. It makes that whole confession a lot more impactful to me.
Absolutely love the chuckle he does when he admits to manipulating you, you can tell he’s trying to distance himself from the vulnerability of admitting he needs someone on his side whilst trying to make light of his actions. Also love how after he says you deserve something real there’s a pause before he says the next line, I can imagine if this was a book I was reading I would assume he’s trying to break up, only to be relieved when says he wants something real with you. Definitely a giggling kicking my feet moment
The whole process in Astarion’s romance I can never feel 100% confident where I’m like “yes, THIS is the genuine moment. THIS isn’t just him pretending like he always did.”

I was just "I'll let you do that, because you're helping me a lot and you're funny" until this confession, when I actually was touched and thought that there really is not much sense in confessing manipulations unleast he's really feeling something, and the final confession, when there was no doubt that he didn't just use Tav for his final goal, but wanted to be together.
He’s been through so much I was I could reach through the screen and hug him but I can’t : ( I will be forever impressed by the writing and acting skill it took to make him feel so real.

I did like Astarion much at first, he seemed like some basic hot vampire evil basic character… I went digging more after my dad told me he thought I’d like him, and holy fuck. I’ve never seen a character I relate more to
When I got this scene I was legitimately so sad because I kinda knew it was coming, but Neil Newbon's acting was so amazing I couldn't breakup with Astarion 😭
I always felt like…. He’s okay at first but when you had a feeling when you’re with someone for so long you don’t wanna lose that person and you want her/him for yourself. ❤
From this angle, he reminds me a lot of Alan Rickman, with his movements, his facial expressions, the way he controls his voice. Alan Rickman was the greatest actor, able to evoke a range of feelings and emotions with just one quiet word or look. And it's nice to see Neil continuing his legacy by driving everyone crazy with his charming voice. And your videos highlight this wonderfully, thank you for your work 🥰

I think you should watch the movie Dogma, where Alan Rickman plays the angel Metatron. The same facial expressions, the same cutesy gestures. He and Astarion have a similar type of appearance, especially the upper part of the face. Perhaps he is not as handsome as Astarion; he has more charisma than external beauty. I love the regret that he has clear on his face when he says "all you had to do was fall for it." He is fully aware that what he's confessing at the moment can quickly turn you against him as he reveals everything up until a certain point was nothing but an act to keep himself safe and he wouldn't blame you for feeling betrayed and leaving him in response if you wanted to Despite that, he absolutely refuses to keep lying to you any longer as he cares too much about you, even if he's terrified and confused about feeling genuine love for someone after two centuries of nothing but abuse. He's likely already mentally preparing for the worst possible reaction from you. I'm so glad you get to give him a hug after this. He deserves that and so much more

I did like Astarion much at first, he seemed like some basic hot vampire evil basic character… I went digging more after my dad told me he thought I’d like him, and holy fuck. I’ve never seen a character I relate more to
When I got this scene I was legitimately so sad because I kinda knew it was coming, but Neil Newbon's acting was so amazing I couldn't breakup with Astarion 😭
I always felt like…. He’s okay at first but when you had a feeling when you’re with someone for so long you don’t wanna lose that person and you want her/him for yourself. ❤
From this angle, he reminds me a lot of Alan Rickman, with his movements, his facial expressions, the way he controls his voice. Alan Rickman was the greatest actor, able to evoke a range of feelings and emotions with just one quiet word or look. And it's nice to see Neil continuing his legacy by driving everyone crazy with his charming voice.

you know, it's weird, but my husband (who is Korean and the only white person he sees everyday irl is me because we live in Korea) said exactly the same thing to me when he saw Astarion for the first time. I think you should watch the movie Dogma, where Alan Rickman plays the angel Metatron. The same facial expressions, the same cutesy gestures. He and Astarion have a similar type of appearance, especially the upper part of the face. Perhaps he is not as handsome as Astarion; he has more charisma than external beauty. So your husband is not so wrong, as an Asian he immediately caught the similarity.

Something about spawns and tadpoles and calzones etc etc. Most important take away so far: Bitey Boy Needs Hugs But Has Trouble Accepting Hugs Because of Trauma™
I love the regret that he has clear on his face when he says "all you had to do was fall for it." He is fully aware that what he's confessing at the moment can quickly turn you against him as he reveals everything up until a certain point was nothing but an act to keep himself safe and he wouldn't blame you for feeling betrayed and leaving him in response if you wanted to
Despite that, he absolutely refuses to keep lying to you any longer as he cares too much about you, even if he's terrified and confused about feeling genuine love for someone after two centuries of nothing but abuse. He's likely already mentally preparing for the worst possible reaction from you. I'm so glad you get to give him a hug after this. He deserves that and so much more
