    I admire and respect George Takei in so many ways, and this interview demonstrates one of the reasons why this is so….to choose the location of the Japanese-American museum allows him to educate younger people who may never have heard about the imprisonment of so many innocent Americans. Takei’s sense of humor is truly brilliant, and I used to follow him on Facebook for years before I decided to stop using it. I really admire the way he uses incisive humor to lampoon bigots, while educating people at the same time. He’s an amazing activist, actor, and human being!

    I've heard George describe his childhood experience as his family experienced the "containment camps". Absolutely heart-wrenching. Amazing how they persevered through an incredible time. Nobody deserves to be treated like that not to mention they were American citizens too. What a class act. To coin a phrase, fascinating.

    George T. is not only a fine actor but a remarkable man in my opinion. He could have easily done nothing with his life, given all the bad cards he was dealt, but he persevered and made something special of his life. He has lived and thrived in the American Experience, despite again all the challenges he encountered. and overcame

    Uncle George is beloved. In addition to Star Trek, he has a body of works that includes a brutally honest and heart stopping episode of Twilight Zone! It is superb. Thanks Uncle George!

    These interviews with the ST cast are brilliant. This one and the one with John de lancie are my favourite. What makes them good is there not promoting a new movie or anything but looking back at there lives and careers.

    Pleasantly surprised that George talked so politely about Shatner. Also his childhood stories are touching and sad. I'm not a big fan of his, but this interview is very nice. Thank you.

    Once I was watching “Watch What Happens Live” with Andy Cohen when George was the interviewee. At that time, you could send suggested questions for George earlier in the week, in the hopes that your question would be one of the few chosen. I asked “What was it like filming ‘The Green Berets’ with John Wayne?” George really lit up as he described how Wayne was as gracious and kind as could be to him throughout filming. He also said that John Wayne was the first person ever to refer to him as “Captain Sulu”.

    • @VideoNOLA
      @VideoNOLA 3 роки тому +4

      That's a relief, as John Wayne was also relentless in his zeal promoting McCarthyism and helping the industry to blackball so-called Communists. I figured it would be challenging or perhaps impossible for Wayne to reconcile his staunch jingoism with the WWII internment camps in which Takei's family was held. It would be like Trump befriending and treating fairly a working-class Mexican immigrant... that extreme a level of overcoming one's lifelong biases.

    • @LifeArtsNetwork
      @LifeArtsNetwork  2 роки тому

      Perhaps since they were both actors working on a patriotic film, Wayne was OK with it. I don't know.

      ;;@@VideoNOLA Unlike those who aren't his camp, John Wayne had enough class and good manners not to go around casually picking fights with people because their political views were different from his,

    I find it interesting that Takei hates Shatner so much but Shatner insists that he has no idea of whatever he did that could have caused this. It just may be visceral - a chemical reaction. Happens all the time - no rhyme or reason for hate sometimes.

    I think George is great but he and some of the others cast forget that Bill Shatner was the star of the show. And George has also made claims about the show that aren't true. One was that one episode was banned in the South. Plato's Stepchildren. The fact is it wasn't. He also claimed he approached Roddenberry to introduce a Gay Crew Member into the series. That is not true. In fact, Roddenberry had little to say about the third season anyway. He needs to stop the hate of Shatner. Notice George had no problem working with Howard Stern and his racist background

      Well, this was 1994 so it's understandable that he didn't discuss gay rights. I'm not sure if he had even come out as gay yet at that time, at least publicly. He definitely called out Shatner on his ego after this point though. He was at Shatner's roast and really let it fly. But I agree that he is intelligent and polite.

    I have to say it was shameful to treat The American Japanese like that. Very shameful. I have some tiny droplet of understanding his feelings. I was born in Germany and used to be afraid to tell people that so they wouldn't associate me with Nazis.

  • @IMeMineWho
    @IMeMineWho 2 роки тому

    Ironic that America treated Japanese Americans as the Germans did to gypsies and Jews in prewar Ww2. Although considering the history of Madison Square Gardens, Americans didnt treat Jews nicely at that time either.
    The comment George made about his dad was so sad. George had that righteous anger, but his dad knew at that time he had no choice.

      When you say that America treated Japanese Americans like the Germans treated Jews and Gypsies in pre WWII Germany do you mean that if things had gone on longer, America would have killed the Japanese citizens like the Germans eventually killed the Jews and Gypsies? I know that there certainly was a lot of anti Japanese hysteria following Pearl Harbor, and humans tend to scapegoat anyone who looks like someone who they perceive harmed them but do you think that things would have gone that far?
      When certain people are now starting to blame Immigrants and people of color for all of America's problems that scares me.
      I hope that the "Relocation Camps" would not have potentially evolved into full blown Concentration Camps, or people like George Takai would not be talking to us now and telling their stories.
