I wish they had credited H.P. Lovecraft. H.P. Lovecraft doesn't get enough credit for all modern horror as an influence. Someone mentioned the word 'corny'. Only corny because it is the root of all horror since Poe. Stephen King is an amateur compared to Poe or H.P. Lovecraft.
You do not take into account writers in other languages. I could just mention French for example with Guy de Maupassant and Théophile Gautier. There are many others and others in other languages.
I never read Lovecraft but know that he wrote some strange stuff. He also went insane. Ronald Colman was great, and Wilbur reminded me of Lon Chaney, jr. Good Halloween fare❤
Binging & having a great time listening during pandemic June 2020. Better than TV😃
Love this episode.
Scared me! Great stuff.
This is absolutely horrifying
Thanks

And Poe wrote most of his horror stories as parodies for contemporary penny dreadfuls and sensational newspapers. He meant them to be corny.

If they are corny it's artistically done to allow the imagination to flourish.

The 'Horror' reminds me of a nun I had teaching 4th grade. Complete pants- wetting terror!
