I hope this doesn't sound weird but this song reminds me of my used to be best friend. Her and I were inseparable then she replaced me with some other girl from Cali.... I -know- I'm not the only one who doesn't see this as political in any way. Hell, if I remember right, Slash and Myles Kennedy have said as much. This song is about self-doubt. The crippling kind of self-doubt; the constantly nagging voice in your head that tells you you're worthless, that you'll never amount to anything. This song is about beating that self-doubt into the ground.
