Wish I had seen this video before the question mark of death. The drive didn’t show up in recovery mode. Target Disk mode through another Mac failed also. I also naively thought the SSD could be extracted only to learn it’s soldered directly onto the board 🤦♂️ Most of the data was backed up anyway as I knew the Mac was on its last legs, but sadly not all of it.
We have the same problem in the family, my Macbook 4years od died last year and the MB of my daughter, same model died today 🪦 2days before i ordered a new M1 - i think its better use a Hackintosh with a lot of USB2 interfaces

Hi there. What are your thoughts on applying liquid metal thermal compound to replace the factory compound found under the heatsink of the MacBook A1534? Alternatively, would you recommend using Kryonaut paste as a replacement compound?
I will. My copper shims just arrived the other day and I will tear one down and see which one fits. Right now it is just in the idea phase but it should solve this problem. It is awful how they did thermal management on this model. I think it's their worst blunder yet. I like apple and love their interface.. But they took a wrong turn on this one.
