I love this song .. and Taylor did a good job here. Obviously her vocals have improved a LOT since 2012 (time of this TV show), and the recent rerecording of this song on Red TV is just fire. Her consistently brilliant song writing and melodism, in a range of very different styles, have endeared her to millions. I love how her performing skills have grown to match her musicianship. I watched the Eras tour movie, and wow, what a show. Moving tens of thousands with just an acoustic guitar - amazing connection with an audience.
funny that this is the FIRST time I ever watched or heard taylor swift I only first heard about her a few weeks ago and did not know anything about her Maybe it is because I stopped watching television in 1980 ? ? ? I was 23 years old then . At first this song sounds like country and western to me . Then towards the end, I realized that it reminds me A LOT of tom petty - the musical part - not so much the vocals . Now, I guess I gotta check if they ever did a duo performance together . The second time listening, the music sounds very much like the tom petty style . Wow, that was pretty easy - A search on yewspewed - I found that she covered ' american girl ' by tom petty and I found another video on billboard news channel where it was said that he was a major influence for her . Did I get that right in about 30 seconds OR WHAT ?
I stopped watching television in 1985, so I get it. There's a ton of pop culture stuff that I completely missed, like not seeing one second of the OJ Simpson trial or any of the top TV shows. CBC Radio and newspapers kept me informed until the coming of the digital age, but while news arrives faster than ever these days, the accuracy and quality of news media coupled with the siloing effect of social media has made a disastrous divide in the general population.
Unfortunately he got fired from the band after this album - just as she was becoming a total world superstar. Bummer! Actually, the other guitarist (to the left) is Paul Sidoti, and he is a REALLY good player and much better than the other guy. Paul is still with her and touring on the Eras Tour now.

Shes bigger than the Beatles. They had their time, now its hers. I love them. Boomers dont panic, she wont eclipse or replace them, and I seriously doubt she even wants to or cares. But she is THAT huge. I dedicate this to all the doubters. She can write, play, sing. Get over it.
This AMAZING lady is such an inspiration 🎉 She has worked SO HARD her whole life & deserves all that SHE EARNED! Finally a young lady that reflects CLASS. She writes all her music, lyrics, performs LIVE, directs her music videos, true friend to people she loves! And…WOW she appreciates her fans & never takes anything for granted. Tech to me is the Black Klansman, not undercover at all though. Just as I say Zalensky is a Jewish Front. It's a white man in a black suit! Think of a self driving car as a slave.
It does look like she's had a bit of work on the nose - probably shortly after this was filmed. Her nose in 1989 is a bit narrower. Could be my imagination, but I don't think so. I know it's a bit sad to promote plastic surgery, but if she did have a bit of work done, the results were pretty stunning - she was drop dead gorgeous in the 1989 era.
Different key and chords - I don't hear it myself. However - Taylor is a fan of Carnes' song as she covered it herself in the Speak Now Tour. Perhaps a few elements of the melody influenced her when she was writing this. I am a musician, and sometimes stuff you love comes out accidentally in what you are writing.
great perfromance .. however. . when a songwriter is doing an original piece it's important that the words are clear and understandable otherwise what's the point .. here the vocals were too low in the mix and were overpowered by the instruments .. but this was long ago ...
10 years ago, back before high quality audio. Actually the highest quality audio was perfected in the 1950's, but before that was the highest quality cinema sound systems. Not much to look at, but the old 1930's Western Electric movie house vacuum tube amplifiers are coveted by audiophile purists and worth tens of thousands of dollars now.
Mixed feelings about her. She grew up with wealth, privilege and sense of entitlement with her parents giving and providing support in her quest for fame andcto be an artist.
Nope. At 2:52 you can clearly see her guitar is plugged in to a wireless transmitter system. I am a rock guitarist (35 years) and Taylor is VERY solid strumming an acoustic guitar. Rock solid timing. She's also a good pianist as well. On songs like this, with hard electric guitar, the backing guitarists naturally dominate. But on an acoustic ballad she's right up front - often unaccompanied.
I’m certain Miss Swift is a wonderful human being but somehow I doubt if 25 years from now a single one of her songs be as emotionally evocative as any Beatles, Stones, even Dolly, and Patsy’s songs. She’s of course a beautiful young woman but that has nothing to do with music
Well, you are wrong. Very wrong. I am a long time musician - guitarist and pianist. People said EXACTLY the same dismissive stuff when the Beatles were releasing music. Taylor is an exceptional musician, and a superb melodist. Songs like Love Story, We Are Never Getting Back Together, Blank Space, and Shake It Off will be LONG remembered as melodic masterpieces. Shake It Off has 5 BILLION views on UA-cam, Blank Space something like 3.3 BILLION. Even people who are not her fans know those songs. And those are her "catchier" pop songs. She also has an arsenal of ballads, rockers and folkier songs. She has sold hundreds of millions of records world wide and the emotional content of many of her songs is extremely high. She regularly moves fans to tears at her concerts. Any artist who gets in the top 10 selling artists of all time will be long remembered - and Swift is NO exception.
@@MrLBDude Yes she is actually (it's plugged in to a wireless system, see 2:52), but it's obviously a minor part with the two other guitarists dominating. Funny you think the song is tedious. I happen to think it's a banging country rock song. But music is very subjective. What I will say is Taylor has written so many songs (>50 by herself, and >50 with other writers), and produced them in VERY different styles. Her recent folkier stuff is massively different to the country rock pop here, which is massively different to her all out pop stuff like Shake It Off etc.. I am a rock guitarist for 35 years, and I have fallen in love with her music. I think she is an extraordinary melodist. Whether she's writing a 3 chord song (Shake It Off) or a 12 chord song with a key change (X-mas Tree Farm) she can craft very memorable melodies.
If her interpolation of Taylor’s (and others) songs to get ahead means further along, sure! But IDK, it doesn’t always have to be a competition, does it?

Yeah, 30 seconds. Awesome. You've a fine ear for music which I attribute to the fact that you stopped watching television 40 years ago.

The real star here is the lead guitar player's haircut.
Who knew Russell Brand could play like that?
Looks more like Steve Stevens with that hairdo,

She had the banjo guy in there to tell the world she still had one toe in the country pool but yes you are correct.
