- My good friend Roger from Bison Bushcraft has loaned me this folder for my opinion on it.

As always thankyou for that, non locking folders have no place in my life for as you say they bite ya when your not paying attention. Bloody mad laws here in the UK about what you can carry, the sad thing is us old boys can remember carrying a bloody great big sheath knife and an air rifle down the road when we were kids with not a raised eyebrow, plus the guys that carry a blade for the wrong reasons wont give a toss about the laws anyway
I'm years younger than you mate and I remember walking to the woods with a knife on my belt and an air rifle in a sling , through the centre of town.
Another great knife review. I love how you paired it with axe and saw, pocket knifes are great companion tools not primary survival tools.

Thanks for another great video Rob I really enjoy when you try out the Swedish gear. I have the lock back knife as my EDC and I really like it. When planning a trip out in the woods I always bring the larger fix blade with me anyway.
I think you also should get the LF size bushbox. It is still big enough to cook on, even a pan, and it fits better in a leg pocket or a smaller bag.
Hands down the best bushcraft UK legal folder available on the market with the only exception being a Ben orford nomad if you can afford it, Ive had mine a long time and can vouch while it's not meant for hard use being a folder, I have used it to baton smaller pieces of wood and it's held up great, only had to tighten the pivot screw once on it and I abuse it almost every day when out walking the dogs to carve wood, food prep lighting fires you name it my Lars falt slip joint has done it all with ease. You won't find a better bushcraft pocket knife that's better value for money.
l had to send the slippy back but i bought the locking version.
The Lars Fälth folder normally have a back lock. That is what I use in Sweden and most other countries. Pity you have to buy a much limited version in the UK.
This one went back to my friend and I bought his locking Falt folder from him.
Yes Rob! I use that exact model in pocket just in case the old bill turn up, but have actually found it very handy on many occasions, my dulo bushcrafter in k390 is a beasty looking medium knife.

Thanks for taking me along again Rob. I too will stick with fixed blades. Multitools and swaks are fine,but not for hard work. I like the firebox, now I'll have to watch your video on it. Cheers :)

There's a reason scandi ground folding knives are so rare. They're just not build for hard work and as a light duty companion knife or edc a flat grind just makes more sense. Nice looking knife with the curly birch scales though.
Gotta say Rob that's a good review on the casstrom slipjoint. The spring reminds me of the one in the now discontinued Enzo PK70.
It's a very strong spring.
I have a folding Viper blade which has a strong spring too. I don't use it for much else than food preparation and some admin tasks. I have a companion for wood.
Have a TBS boar EDC folder and again has limits, but as a knife for small tasks and as a pocket knife its a happy little tool.
I think this one is more expensive than the TBS.

I grew up with a slip joint in my pocket and I prefer them to locking knives. I don't buy into this idea that locking folders are any safer. Particularly liner/frame locks, where you have to put your fingers in the path of the blade to unlock the knives. So if you need a locking folder because you are very careless, then a lock-back is the safest option. I think, if that is the case, then you should get a fixed blade.
A bad workman always blames his tools: It's carelessness that causes cuts, and we are all guilty of carelessness, that's just human.
I think the bad press that slip joints get is created by manufacturers of locking knives......
This is an unpopular way of thinking in the Land of Folding Knives.
I'd love to have one of those, just for fun, but here in Australia they are a little too expensive. I think there is a lock-back version available too.
My only folding knife with a scandi is the TBS Wildcat, that has both a scandi and a flat grind blade.
The knife is gorgeous and well made, but I hardly ever use it, since it is so uncomfortable to use. The spine of both blades is very sharp, and one of those will always hurt the hand, while working with the other blade.
The Lars Fält folder might work though.

FANTASTIC AS USUAL. SERIOUS AND FUNNY AT THE SAME TIME. I HAVE GOT THE N 10 AND THE LARS FALT KNIVES. I WOULD LIKE TO BUY THE WOODSMAN TOO. FOR EDC POCKET KNIFE I PREFER THE COLD STEEL FINN WOLF, THE CONDOR KRAKATOA, THE MORA ELDRIS, THE EKA N8 AND N10, THE BUCK 659, THE FOLDER KA BAR JAROSZ, THE BUCK 110 AND THE MARTIINI ONES WITH THE WOODEN HANDLES. THIS IS MY OPINION. I LKE THE KNIFE THAT YOU HAVE MADE THAT IT LOOKS LIKE THE LT WRIGHT LAGOM ONE. IT IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. GREETINGS FROM GREECE.

Great review as usual - nothing wrong with Casstrom knives, I find their bushcraft knife handles particularly comfortable for my big old trotters.

As a companion knife, I’d prefer a slim flat grind. In fact, I have a flat ground version of a Woodlore clone made by Ashley Harrison of Arthur Wright and Son as a companion to my Jacklore Camp Knife. A perfect pair to me!
I have a TBS UK legal folder it's very similar to that and works great for shaving wood. Not a bad company casstrom I have a
Casström No.10 Swedish Forest Knife that I bought many moon's ago, great comfortable knife to use.
My TBS boar folder has sat collecting dust since getting the Lars falt slip joint I find it outperforms the TBS in a lot of ways personally

I have always carried and used a non locking folder as my father and grandfather did with no issues whatsoever.
I've just received a Spyderco UKPK titanium which will now be a daily carry knife.
As you said it would make a great companion knife. Like your self l like a fixed blade.

Thank you for the review of this unique wood craft knife. It certainly is nice looking and is made of top quality materials. I can appreciate that; one question that might make a difference to a lot of people is the price. Wood crafting to me; is the less you pay for things the better. This knife looks more like one that a knife collector might buy that likely would never make a fire. It would live in collection of other over price and never used knives. Or used by someone with a Sir or title affixed to their name as a show piece. Being it has a Hardness of HRC: 58-59 it might not need sharpening ever. But; that is a lot to spend for something anyone using a knife needs to learn. I think I will stick with my Mora Eldris; it makes Feather sticks and sparks for a lot less and fits in my pocket just fine. 😂🙂
Nice vid Rob, personally I don’t care for a non locking folding knife at all, I don’t recommend the smaller bushbox also, it will smoke a lot more with a kettle on it, it wil smother the fire imho
I think you and I have similar taste in tools and kit.

If it works with an axe and folding saw, there is no point in carrying this for bushcraft use as the other two items (i.e. axe and saw) will require the same legal reasoning as a fixed blade. I have a couple of UK legal scandi friction folder which I think is better in terms of safety, durability and ease of use and I carry them on me when I do a nature walk. There good to practice carving/whittling but as you said insufficient to light a fire if there are no suitable fuel lying on ground.
N690 is a very good steel, its equal to VG10 and thats good enough for 75% of Fallkniven knives.
It finishes particularly well....and God knows my hobby needs all the help it can get 🤣

Great video as always, I'm really tempted by one of those outdoor axes, I've got a small forest axe but it's a but big for just chucking in my daysack for a bimble and a brew!
I don't need a large axe in the broad leaf woods and it looks like that one is my preferred small axe in that woods.

It's a Bison Bushcraft ventile smock , based on the old SAS smock, these haven't been available for over 10 years.

Nicely reviewed Rob, I've got something similar in the TBS Boar EDC folder, which is as you say a good companion to my TBS Boar fixed blade. Just as good as the Lars Falt IMHO. Have you seen or used the TBS Boar DEC folder? Also you were saying saying something about a locking folder version of the Falt knife and I have the larger TBS Boar locking folder have you seen this one or used it? Anyway as always entertaining and interesting vid keep em coming. Atvb Malcolm 🏴
I'm not a fan of Scandi folders so I wouldn't have any experience with them sorry , I mainly use Victorinox folders and I do have a few others but without scandi grinds.

Anyone battoning a slip joint folder should be sent to jail. The same for light ratfanged woodcarving knives.

It’s a nice looking knife to use as a backup, but I’d prefer a lock back or a neck knife. Your FTP isn’t much bigger, I think. As to the handle, have you tried the Lars Falt or any other Casstrom fixed blades?
Didn't like the Falt knife, I thought the blade was too long for the scandi grind.
The woodsman is excellent, I'll be doing a review on it very soon.

@@RobEvansWoodsman not far then rob. I like your posts if I’m honest, and I did message you a while back asking if you would like to look at one of the knives I make, if you free one day maybe we can spend hour or two at a camp. My skills is able to catch animals, have been for 40 years now,
Rob You really need to write out a script and fine tune what you want to say before you turn on the camera and start making bloopers . your stuff is great but maybe you need to think it out a little more and get it on some paper , ( or birch bark ) so you have something to go by , and don't rely on memory . My memory screws me over ever time , something to do with old age i think , I don't remember just now...... but I'm 71 or so .....I think......
Then there would be no bloopers to keep people amused!
There's no way I'll script anything, I hadn't made a video for three weeks so I was a little rusty.
