This video is exactly what I've been looking for! I'm planning on attending KLI this fall :) And about the hair falling out, apparently there's something in the water that foreigner's heads are often not used to. In convenience stores you can buy shower heads that have a special filter that avoid this

@@exoada9246 Hi! You can find everything about costs on the Yonsei KLI website. It's subject to change every semester so you should check it when you apply.
And what I've been told is that scholarships are based on performance in class so they're only offered from your second semester onwards. And you can't apply for the scholarship as the YSKLI office only contacts those that are eligible (i.e. have the highest scores). But I'm not 100% sure it's the only scholarship they offer so you could always contact the YSKLI office :)

How do you understand if the classes are taught in Korean?? What I mean is, what's the reference language for translating the words?? For instance: 고장 - Broken. But if they only speak in Korean how do you understand what the words mean. Is it just pictures for reference. Like I'm so confused 😂😂 I wanna do KLI for a year but I don't understand how I'll understand the explanations if theyre not talking in English. How will i survive not knowing Korean at the beginning. Bc I wanna learn Korean the first year then do a degree in Korea so it's important I actually learn it. How good were u actually at the end. I hope the speaking, reading and comprehension outcome is good. Omg this is such a long comment lol😂 just some concerns I have and thought I'd ask.
Btw, all the classes are in person now right?

Hi! Since you did multiple levels, I was wondering if you know if you can stay in the dorm during the time between semesters (the 2-3 week vacation time) if you pay extra?

    • @joshuakorea
      @joshuakorea 9 місяців тому

@marcelloguitar1369 yeah so turns out if you stay in the dorm for the summer semester for example, you will be given the option to pay for the fall semester or in other words extending you stay. By doing this, you also get to stay in the dorm for the 2 week break between semesters.

    Hey Rachel,
I'm about to enroll in Yonsei's KLI, but am a bit torn between Sogang's focus on conversation and Yonsei on academics. I had a couple of questions about your experience, if you don't mind! 1. How many levels did you complete at Yonsei? 2. Would you say you're pretty comfortable speaking in a naturalistic setting? 3. How many total hours outside of homework would you say are necessary to excel in class (vocab, exams, presentations, etc.)?
    Thanks~

@@itsmissalina222 howdy! happy to offer some advice! I went with Sogang for 3 levels and did one at Ewha before discontinuing for self study under advisement of my instructors. my wife is Korean and I didn't really need more than level four, as at a certain point many of the programs become free talking, watching/discussing stuff and vocab, most of which can be achieved in other contexts (reading newspapers, living in Korea long-term, watching more advanced TV/movies, etc.)
Sogang would easily be my pick in terms of just learning to speak Korean conversationally, but if your goals are lofier and you're aiming for academic Korean, I'd go with Yonsei or Ewha. I never ended up going to Yonsei (didn't align with my study goals), but I can say confidently that Ewha's professors were by far the best teachers I had. However, the students were not nearly as advanced/comfortable in speaking as the typical Sogang students. That said the content you learn there is much more advanced as a whole and you get way more advanced vocab.
I've heard it described this way:
      - Go to Sogang if you want to speak Korean, focus on speaking, and your goal is to be conversational and comfortable just talking and living the language. at Sogang you will become very comfortable just free talking and spontaneously expressing yourself in Korean. if you do up to level 3 here and never study Korean again, you'll be pretty damn proficient.
      - go to Yonsei if you want less speaking focus and more focus on academic Korean. if you have goals of attending Korean uni etc. this is a good fit. again, didn't attend, but have met others that shared these sentiments. at Yonsei you will learn more advanced vocab and will hammer grammar, but there's less emphasis on free talking and being able to just converse spontaneously.
      - Ewha is a blend of the two, and the professors are excellent. the content is harder than Sogang and there is less free talking. go to Ewha if you want really awesome instructors and a chill program that is like 75% academic Korean and 25% free talking. that ratio fluctuates, but tends to favor academics. it's a good blend, but cannot replace Sogang in terms of cultivating spontaneous speech in Korean (IMO the core of fluency)
all choices will be fine, and you can always hop around! as long as you study hard and perform well on the tests, it's a breeze to pop around and try different programs. all said, be prepared to put in the hours and effort, as even at Sogang a good chunk of my classmates that didn't dedicate themselves to effortful study ended up not passing a level at some point!
it's all chill and fun if you're ready to put in the work~ hope that helps!! glfh!
happy to answer anything else, but... I'd go with Sogang if I had to choose just one ;) again, depends on your goals, though! if Ewha had Sogang's professors and more emphasis on spontaneous conversation rather than rigidly following formulae, I'd say Ewha 100%!~~

@@hypotheticalpineapple thank you very much 😭😭 I’m so grateful for this review and the time you put in it! Today I applied to Sogang but was still doubting about how cool Yonsei is and how big the job opportunities are said to be there.
You clarified my thoughts a lot and I can go to sleep with peace hahaha
My goal is to work after accomplishing level 3 or 4. I’m a designer so I don’t need fancy words just the ability to express my ideas and understand what Koreans say ( 듣기 is my weakest skill so far).
      So thanks a lot ❤️❤️
May I ask you if you happened to find a job after completing your courses? Is the Sogang’s vocab enough?
Or your job doesn’t require any proficiency?
I was really torn to Yonsei because of their outside of campus opportunities every blog writes about. But I already had a job where I understood a lot but spoke like a toddler and it wasn’t fun 😂😂

hi im planning to sign up for summer regular program ( for a term )next year and was wondering when will I receive the notice that I got accepted . Im planning to reach korea maybe 3-2 months before my lessons start so I have to apply a short visa first. but my concern is that I can only apply for the visa ( student visa )after I received admission notice thus I can't arrive in the timing I want ? Or the visa might take very long to process . What do you recommend ? And is the level one suitable for absolute beginners ?

Sorry if you have answered this in the video but I am watching this off a grainy wifi so it keeps freezing. How did you find your overall language upon completing the program? I have paid for 6 months, and I am assuming I will be at level 1 from the start as my level is very very very very basic. I am hoping this will give me the chance to talk to my wife's family more but also give me the chance to work within Korean companies.
Can you please give me a brief summary of how your level was finishing level 2? :)

i didn’t take the placement test. i just went straight into level 1 but some of my friends took it. i think it is challenging to place into a high level b/c one of my friends who took korean all throughout high school didn’t make it into level 2 but my other friend did. she said the hardest part on the test for her was the essay. i believe they gave her a prompt related to current events and she had to take a stance and write a essay about it. she said there was also a speaking. listening, and grammar section. my friend who tested into level 2 mostly just studied the talk to me in korean books before going to korea.
